Bonnyrigg Town Centre Park
Bonnyrigg Town Centre Park
The Bonnyrigg Town Centre Park
project allowed Fairfield Council
to combine flood mitigation
improvements while keeping to
water sensitive urban design
principles and introducing open
space to the community.
With this project, Council has
increased the capacity of the
detention basin, which is
contained wholly within the park.
This basin is part of a drainage
network along Clear Paddock
Creek. A new concrete outlet
control structure was constructed
to protect both people and
property downstream from flood
waters.

There are several environmental
benefits to the project including
taking the stormwater out of the
pipes and returning a creek to the
site, filtering the stormwater
before it travels downstream, and
planting natives to increase
biodiversity.
The Town Centre Park has
increased the open space
available to the public in the area.
There is very little public space in
the surrounding suburbs, and this
project has provided a location for
public meetings. Artwork was
also incorporated into the project
and increases the aesthetics of the
new environment.
Access through the park was
increased with walkways and
cycle ways linking the local
shopping centre and Transitway
station to the surrounding suburbs.
In this urban setting, the
Bonnyrigg Town Centre Park will
introduce a variety of benefits to a
variety of users.
