Narrator: today you can find the ( sturgis pretzel house )in litz, Pennsylvania. Nestled among the rolling hills and fields of (lancaster county ), the area's famous for pretzels and the (Pennsylvania dutch ). So sturgis cooked up an original design to honor the locals. We also do our most famous pretzel, which is shaped like an (amish )horse and buggy. Narrator: for just a few bucks, you can tour a fun food factory that adds a new twist to an ancient art. Sturgis pretzels are all based on the original recipe and baked in authentic brick ovens. Though this fun food factory has an old−fashioned heart, meeting the overwhelming demand requires modern mass production. This bruiser can extrude 230 pretzels a minute. That's five tons of hard pretzels every day. And the varieties are endless. Tshudy: and they do come in a variety of flavors, which we hand−coat. And some of our more popular ones are apple cinnamon and raisin, jalape}o, Maryland crab, and the honey mustard and onion. Narrator: but sturgis pretzels wouldn't have their crunch or golden color without a (trip )on the conveyor belt. Here the pretzels are seasoned and prepped for baking. Gives the yeast and the dough a chance to rise. And when they reach the tank of hot water and baking soda −−This is showered on the pretzels, gives them their shine, their taste, and their color. While the pretzels are wet, we' re gonna salt them and then bake them 10 minutes, 550 degrees. Narrator: the best part of the tour is what makes sturgis our best make−your−own fun food factory. But do you know what the pretzel's unusual shape represents? 00:08:33 Highlights: Pennsylvania dutch, amish, lancaster county, sturgis pretzel house, trip 1 In searching the publicly accessible web, we found a webpage of interest and provide a snapshot of it below. Decorating the house, buying a tree, shopping and even thinking about Christmas can wait until Turkey Day is over. Of course, most of the world doesn't follow this schedule any longer, as the holiday www progenealogists com Ads by Google season seems to get moved up earlier and earlier each year. If you're looking for a good way to draw out your holiday spirit, the American Music Theatre along Route 30 in Lancaster is a pretty good place to start. My wife, Judy, and I were invited to the venue's own production of a "2009 Christmas Show: A Holiday Tradition" during opening week, and the show was quite impressive. The first-class production is divided into four diverse parts: "A Traditional Christmas" features singers and dancers in Victorian-era clothing performing songs like "White Christmas" and "The Christmas Song" in traditional fashion; "Christmas around the World" features holiday music from Ireland, Germany, France and other lands; "Shelley's Dream" which tells the story of a young girl who uses a magical key to unlock a fantasy world where Santa Claus really exists; and "The Reason for the Season" which features secular and religious songs such as "Silent Night" and "What Child is This." The highlights are numerous, but among my favorites were Samantha Hewes' energy as a tap-dancing Frosty the Snowman; Michelle Mishler, clad in pink pajamas, doing her best little-girl impersonation while playing Shelley; guitarist/vocalist Wess Cooke pulling off a pretty good Jimmy Buffet in "Christmas in the Caribbean"; and the quartet of Cooke, Michael Minor, Todd Mitchell and Randall Frizado, dressed like teens, performing a hip-hop version of "I'm Getting Nuttin' for Christmas." The house band, the AMT Orchestra, is excellent and is featured in a couple of short sets. There's local flavor in the band as Mt. Gretna's pianist/keyboardist extraordinaire, Andy Roberts, plays keyboards and even the fiddle. The show, which runs about two hours with an intermission, continues through Jan. 3. For showtimes and ticket prices, see the Web site www.AMTshows.com. I highly recommend it. And another thing: Speaking of Roberts, his wife, Kathy "Tap" Roberts, and her staff at the Timbers in Mt. Gretna deserve kudos (albeit a little late) for a successful summer at the dinner theater. This year's production was titled "Sing Happy! 2009" and featured six young, talented performers with resumes that included the likes of Boston Conservatory, University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. The cast included Tess Brenner, Caroline Kobylarz, Michelle Rombola, Chris Anthony Giles, Jeremy Greenbaum and Jeff Manno. Andy Roberts is the musical director each summer, and Sharon Miller served as the show's creator and director. And Tap Roberts oversees the food service and pulls it all together night after night. The Timbers is still one of the best "nights out" in the area during the summer. Musicals stir up the holiday spirit - The Times Herald Life: Norristown, PA and Montgomery County (timesherald.com) Page 1 of 2 Norristown and Montgomery County, PA Life Musicals stir up the holiday spirit Published: Friday, November 27, 2009 No comments posted. | Email to a friend | Print version | ShareThis | RSS Feeds By PHILOMENA ROBERTO JOHNS Times Herald Features Editor Click to enlarge Christmas Day is just four short weeks away and the sights and sounds of the season can be found all around. Sure to put everyone in a holiday mood is the "2009 Christmas Show: A Holiday Tradition" at the American Music Theatre in Lancaster. The theater presents a new production annually and many audiences return year after year. The near-capacity crowd on a recent Friday afternoon — with numerous tour buses among private vehicles filling the parking — lot attests to the popularity of the theater and its shows. An ensemble of 18 singers and dancers, as well as the AMT Orchestra with pianist Charles B. Ancheta, offer a nearly two-hour holiday extravaganza co-created by Curt Dale Clark and Marc Robin. The duo are well-known in the Lancaster theater community and beyond for their achievements as award-winning actors, directors and playwrights. "The 2009 Christmas Show" is a celebration of the season in four parts. "A Traditional Christmas" with Victorian costumes and scenery and highlighting standards like "White Christmas" and "The Christmas Song" is reminiscent of those TV holiday specials of the past with Perry Como and Andy Williams. After the company’s opening medley, singers Angela Birchett, Wess Cooke, Randall Frizado, Michael Minor, Todd Mitchell, Michelle Mishler and Angela Walker have featured numbers, which showcase their fine vocal talents. The second part of Act I spotlights "Christmas Around the World," with special effects, music, dancing and holiday traditions in the Caribbean, Sweden, Ireland, Germany, France and the United States. Interjected is some humor, fun and dazzle that seem to keep even the youngest audience members enjoying themselves. "Swedish Christmas Smorgasbord" was a combination of the Swedish chef on "The Muppet Show" and Tim Conway routines on "The Carol Burnett Show" and David Strobbe, in wig and costume, was a playful addition to the "Christmas Can Can." The AMT Orchestra with Charles B. Ancheta emerges from behind the scenery between the two parts to offer instrumental numbers "Once in Royal David’s City" and "Joy to the World." The band and its sophisticated setting also return between Part III and Part IV to offer a moving "Ave Maria." Act 2 features "Shelly’s Dream," a fantasy holiday story for all ages. Performer Michelle Mishler, dressed for bed in her pink Dr. Denton’s, is Shelly, a young girl who discovers that Santa really does exist when a magic key opens up a world to dancing elves and a Christmas fairy. Michael Minor as Shelly’s dad uses his ventriloquist skills with "Clarence the Moose" and the act also showcases dancers Tabitha AndrewsColmary, Brance Cornelius, Samantha Hewes, Shannon Howard, Jen Jenkins and David Strobbe. Shelly interacts with the audience as she marvels at the wonders around her and she and her dad prompt the crowd to join in the concluding song, "Let There Be Peace on Earth." The orchestra returns with the singers for "The Reason for the Season," a Christmas concert with familiar sacred and secular holiday songs like "Silent Night," "Mary Did You Know" and "My Grown Up Christmas List." http://www.timesherald.com/articles/2009/11/27/life/doc4b0db6649d53c957334146.txt 11/27/2009 Musicals stir up the holiday spirit - The Times Herald Life: Norristown, PA and Montgomery County (timesherald.com) Page 2 of 2 "The 2009 Christmas Show" at American Music Theatre continues through Jan. 3.
