“A Few to Preserve the Best” PRESERVATION - RESTORATION - ENJOYMENT - DEDICATION - EDUCATION From the President January 30, 2015 Hi Ho Mustangers, It’s a slow time of the year for car outings, but a busy time for the club. We were given a real treat at Ewald’s Venus Ford to look at the latest and greatest Mustangs and F-150's in the showroom along with a great Q & A with Eric Ewald. A lot of the talk was about what FORD was doing with the all new 2015 Mustang, the FORD GT, and SVT. After the short club meeting, we were treated to an open look at all the cars (6 brand new showroom models in the service bay). After we had a look at the cars, we were treated to snacks provided by Ewald’s Venus Ford. It was the best time I have had at an outing, and we should all keep in mind that EWALD’S VENUS FORD is the place to buy your next car or truck. We have a lot on our plate for the next 60 days with the “Model A Swap Meet” on February 22nd at the Washington County Fair Grounds. We will have a table there, and I hope that all WEM members who are looking for a buy, stop by, and say “Hi” at the WEM table. This is a great time to see old friends and club members in what is a cold car club season. The annual February Pizza Party is set for February 8th. RSVP is a must! …and by MONDAY FEBRUARY 2nd. Call Tom or Sue at 414-764-6726 ASAP. RSVP is a MUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank You!!! The club dinner and WEM MEMBER OF THE YEAR will take place at “THE POLOSKI INN”. If you know someone within the club that you think should be considered, PLEASE contact any member of the board no later than March 1st. If you worked the car show last year you have a free dinner at the club dinner, but you still need to RSVP (A MUST). We need RSVP for counts and not to surprise our vendors. That is all for now, but there’ll be more next month. Yours in Stangdom, Tom Visit our updated website thanks to Wisnet and Dick Doria at www.wemustangers.com P.S. If you view this on a smart phone, click the box just below the pictures on the left for the full menu. The short business meeting was called to order by president Tom Miller at 6:30. Sharon Doria gave a brief treasurer's report. The April 18th preliminary show planning meeting at Ewald’s Venus Ford is all set to finalize facility details about our May 17th car show. Extra help is still needed at the show, so please volunteer. Club apparel: Please see Dick Doria to lock in 2014 prices. Pizza Party: The date was changed to February 8th with a February 2nd RSVP deadline. (See flyer) WEM Annual Club Dinner: RSVP's are needed for this club party. Many of us agreed about the good drinks at reasonable prices, and the good food served at this enjoyable evening. Tom Miller asked for nominations for Mustanger of the Year (to be awarded at the March club dinner). Model A swap meet and the World of Wheels are coming up. (Info is in the Calendar) Fox and Hounds May 3rd Ice Breaker Brunch Run: The date is set, but we have not been able to get firm pricing yet. Details should be in our next newsletter. Please let Scott know if anyone has jointed MCA (they probably have enough members...but just checking). Eric Ewald had a great presentation as well as showing great hospitality to our members as we toured the facility. Super good sandwiches that had a variety of meats on hard rolls, chips, and soda were served courtesy of the dealership. Minutes by Dean Falkner this month, the Wisconsin brother, while brother John stays away from the white stuff that’s visible out the window above the yellow Mustang GT on the next page. June 13-17, 2015 The itinerary is in the early planning stages but will include many of the things we did in 2010 (The Henry Ford & Greenfield Village, Roush Performance Products, the Roush Collection, a group dinner) and a few new things! So, if you are planning to join us, please let me know! I realize this is fairly far in advance – at this point I am only trying to get a better idea of how many rooms we may need in our group block. Your RSVP will not be set in stone. Please email Dawn at [email protected], or call 414-412-9147. If you have questions I’ll do my best to answer them. Hotel: Best Western Greenfield Inn – Allen Park (same as 2010). The group block/rate to be announced. More details coming soon An EcoBoost FYI – By John Falkner The owners manual specifies 87 octane fuel, and if you’re driving around town with mild acceleration you’re probably happy, but if you’re into more spirited driving at higher speeds, you’re probably not too impressed. The advertised 310 HP has an asterisk stating Premium Fuel was used, so what’s the story? The new 2.3 liter EcoBoost Mustang engine has a 9.5:1 compression ratio, so 87 octane fuel is fine until the turbo kicks in. Modern engines have sensors and computer controls to prevent pre-ignition (knock/ping), so they seem to run fine when turbocharged by de-tuning the air, fuel, cam timing, spark advance, etc., but any supercharged/turbocharged engine needs higher octane fuel to reach full potential as boost pressures increase. A recent Ford tech bulletin states this engine produces about 260 HP on 87 octane regular, and 310 HP on 93 octane premium, and I was told this is similar with all EcoBoost engines. So if you slowly drive around town, 87 octane regular is okay, but if you want to go faster with peak performance, use premium fuel for better power AND fuel economy …and yes, that extra 50 HP is VERY noticeable! I was happy with my new ‘15 EcoBoost Mustang, but now I love it. 3 Pictures courtesy of Dean Falkner WEM events are in 12 pt. bold FYI events are in 10 pt. normal print FEBRUARY 8 Sun WEM Annual Pizza Party at Angelo’s in Racine, Sue Miller coordinating (new date) 20-22 F-Su World of Wheels at Wisconsin State Fair Park, www.autorama.com/ 21-3/1 Sa-Su Greater Milwaukee Auto Show at the Wisconsin Center, www.autoshowmilwaukee.com/ 22 Sun Model A Swap Meet at the Washington County Fair Grounds 8:00 – 2:00, www.milwaukeemodeltclub.com/ NO WEM club meeting MARCH 22 Sun 30 Mon APRIL 11 Sat 18 Sat WEM Club Dinner at the Pulaski Inn, Sharon Doria coordinating WEM monthly club meeting at the Waterstone Bank, 6560 S. 27th Street, 7:00 PM Dick Doria seminar, topic TBA Preliminary 2015 WEM show meeting at Venus Ford, Dick Doria coordinating. 24-26 F-Su Spring Jefferson, www.madisonclassics.com 27 MAY 3 16 17 Mon WEM monthly club meeting at the Waterstone Bank, 6560 S. 27th Street, 7:00 PM Sun Ice Breaker Brunch Run, Jack Winter Coordinating (prices and details TBD soon) Sat Car show set up at Ewald’s Venus Ford, 4:30 PM Sun WEM Car Show at Ewald’s Venus Ford, gate opens at 8:00 & awards at 3:00 PM NO WEM club meeting JUNE 13-17 Sa-W WEM Dearborn Cruise, Dawn Raduechel coordinating, details to follow. 14 Sun FVMC Show, www.fvfmclub.com 28 Sun Hot Rods-n-Blues Car Show at Lime Kiln Park in Grafton, 9-3:30, www.rodsnrelics.org 29 Mon WEM monthly club meeting at the Waterstone, 6560 S. 27th Street, 7:00 PM JULY 9-12 Th-Su Iola, www.iolaoldcarshow.com 17-19 F-Su Car Craft Summer Nationals at State Fair Park, www.hotrod.com/events/summer-nationals/ 19 Sun Soerens Ford Car Show 26 Sun Lannon Cars on Main, 8-1:00 25-26 Sa-Su OTR, TBD 27 Mon WEM monthly club meeting at the Waterstone Bank, 6560 S. 27th Street, 7:00 PM AUGUST 15 Sat WEM Annual Club Picnic at Legends Park, coordinated by Tom & Sue Miller 22-3 Sa-Sun The Milwaukee Masterpiece at Veteran’s Park, www.milwaukeemasterpiece.com 31 Mon WEM monthly club meeting at the Waterstone Bank, 6560 S. 27th Street, 7:00 PM SEPTEMBER 6 Sun Oak Creek Lionsfest car show, www.oakcreeklionsfestival.com 7 Mon Racine Shopko car show, www.classycruisers.com 25-27 F-Su Fall Jefferson, www.madisonclassics.com 28 Mon WEM monthly club meeting at the Waterstone Bank, 6560 S. 27th Street , 7:00 PM OCTOBER 2-4 F-Sun WEM Annual Door County trip 26 Mon WEM monthly club meeting at the Waterstone Bank, 6560 S. 27th Street with nominations for new club officers.
