Yes I said over 100 Ways to Make Money Blogging. Did I count
them? No but in my research since everyone asks me how do you
make money blogging I found at least one site with over 75 and
several more you can explore. Don’t be lazy, you can count them
yourselves or if you want to make money blogging, you could try
some out and let me know how they work for you.
Positively Pittsburgh Live

……………………………………….. My reason behind doing this show is
simple, I make money from blogging through everything else
involved in my platform, consulting, speaking and an internet radio
and TV network where I sell channels…………………But that has
taken me five years to establish and others just want to know how to
start or how to monetize what they are now doing. So I did the
research for you on How to Make Money Blogging. Sorry unless you
want to pay me, you have to do the work
yourself………………………..But do watch for my upcoming workshop
on “Blogging for Business or As a Business.”

It takes passion, commitment and business “smarts” to successfully
run a non-profit organization successfully these days. We will be
interviewing Andrea Williams, BA Founder and Executive Director of
the Children’s Sickle Cell Foundation, Inc. (CSCF) on her role as
director, CSCF, their mission and their success and struggles.
special note: Andrea is the mother of four children, one of whom has
sickle cell disease (SCD). She is determined to increase awareness of
SCD in order to make a positive impact in the lives of children
affected by this often debilitating and often fatal disease. The
mission of the Childrenâ??s Sickle Cell Foundation, Inc. is to provide
quality programs for children with SCD and their families, helping
them to face the educational, social and economic challenges caused
by the disease. The commitment to SCD and sickle cell trait (SCT)
awareness and outreach and support for research are natural
extensions of this mission. Programs include a year-round
Educational Support, monthly Family Support, weekly wellness
programs including the popular Learn2Swim and KarateFit
Programs. Community education and outreach programs top the list
of priorities for CSCF. The need for community education has led to
partnerships with the schools, churches and community
organizations, where we provide information and resources for
screening and education. CSCF is the leader in SCD and SCT

Three Sisters Sparkles as First Jewel in Chekhov
Celebration Crown
Aug 9, 2012 04:26PM
The highly educated and cultured, Moscow-bred Three Sisters have
seen the circumstances of their lives reduced. The First Act opens on
the one year anniversary of their army father’s passing, which
coincidentally is the youngest of the brood Irina’s birthday, the play
Positively Pittsburgh Live
Page 10
http://pplmag.com
shows a trio of sisters dissatisfied with their lot in life. As a result of
their father’s military life, the family has decamped to a town so
disconnected it is miles from the nearest train station, and enlivened
only by the temporary presence of a battalion of soldiers. The
sisters hunger for any contact that can bring their beloved Moscow
back to them as cherished yet enlivened memories.
Their brother Andrei is on the fast track at the university and is
poised to make a name for himself until he makes a bad choice in
spouse, the initially silly then increasingly malevolent Natasha. The
rest of the cast is peopled with visiting soldiers, faithful family
retainers and friends.
Fedotik (Adrian Blake Enscoe) delights Irina (Vera Varlamov) The
current Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre’s (PICT) performance
sets Irina (Vera Varmalov) in the spotlight as the naïve young adult,
relishing in her birthday gifts and cake at the outset to a
disenchanted worker in menial positions until she ultimately
triumphs by taking control of her fate and heading to Moscow with
the impassioned announcement: “I’ll go away tomorrow, by myself.”
Olga (Nike Doukas), the oldest sister, is seen at first trying to rally
Positively Pittsburgh Live
Page 11
http://pplmag.com
the rest of the family with almost brittle chatter as she welcomes a
steady stream of visitors and plays the role of gracious hostess. As
the performance moves from act to act, Olga seems to become even
more visibly downtrodden, increasingly suffering from headaches as
the burdens of her life wear her down.
Vershinin and Masha Masha (Allison McLemore), the middle sister,
is clearly in an unhappy marriage. She appears to barely tolerate
her older, teacher husband. When he gives Irina the same gift for
her birthday as he had presented for a previous occasion, she can
barely contain her derision. Upon meeting the foolish romantic
artillery battalion officer Vershinin (David Whalen), she and her
sisters recall their childish nickname for him, “the Lovesick Major”.
As he drones on about his philosophy on the future, she experiences
an attraction that is both dangerous and fruitless. In the end,
Vershinin is transferred and Masha unhappily returns to the
cuckolded Kulygin.
Positively Pittsburgh Live
Page 12
http://pplmag.com
As dispossessed as the women characters are in Three Sisters, the
men are portrayed as elitist, displaying juvenile romantic fantasies
and hopelessly naïve and idealistic views of the future. The
gambling Andrei (Christian Conn) squanders the family fortune
while Olga frets and Natasha (Megan McDermott) moves in for the
kill. Baron Tuzenbach (Leo Marks) asserts his “Russianness” to try
and woo Irina, while the annoyingly bizarre Solyony (Jonathan
Visser) stalks through his scenes. The most charming of the
sycophants, the handsome Vershinin (David Whalen) and the playful
Chebutykin (Larry John Meyers) provide the tragic-comedic relief to
the male contingent of the play.
I confess the multiple names of any Russian work, and Chekhov is
not immune to this, always present a problem for me to follow the
storyline. Chekhov’s style is certainly lighter and more subtle than
many of his countrymen. The decline of the Russian affluent middle
class is poignantly portrayed in a story that resonates in any age.
The intimacy of the Henry Heymann Theatre enables the audience to
feel as though they are eavesdropping on the family dynamic and the
tiny community to which they have been exiled.
Three Sisters is playing at select dates and times at the Henry
Heymann Theatre in the Stephen Foster Memorial, Oakland through
August 26th.

WQED CELEBRATES FIRST YEAR OF SUPER TEACHERS
DIGITAL LEARNING GROUP AND LOOKS FORWARD TO YEAR

Event Welcomes Deputy Secretary of the Pennsylvania Office of
Child Development and Early Learning
WQED hosts a celebration of the accomplishments of the first year of
iQ: smartmedia Super Teachers on Friday, August 10 at the Foster
Early Childhood Center in McKees Rocks. Special guest speaker for
the recognition event will be Dr. Barbara Minzenberg, Deputy
Secretary of the Pennsylvania Office of Child Development and Early
Learning.
WQED Super Teachers are 12 educators who advise WQED in the
best ways for incorporating PBS digital media in early childhood
classrooms and homes (pre-K through K) throughout Allegheny
Intermediate Unit 3 (AIU 3) representing 42 school districts in
Allegheny County.
“The innovations we’ve seen in year one are phenomenal – teachers
using the TV show SuperWhy to help children with speech delays,
comprehensive training for Head Start across our entire region, and
equipping parents with the ability to track their child’s literacy
through a free gaming tool called PBS Kids Island,” says Jennifer
Stancil, Executive Director of Educational Partnerships at WQED.
“There is much more on the horizon…we are gearing up for the new
school year with our new math curriculum, among other innovative
projects.”
WQED’s iQ: smartmedia initiative, encompassing all of its
educational projects, is at national forefront of helping teachers use
PBS children’s programs and digital media to incorporate games,
coaching, sharing via video, and applying those digital assets to
science, numeracy, literacy, and social and emotional awareness.

“We are even helping teachers understand the use of social
networks, like My Street (from Sesame Workshop), for peer-to-peer
sharing of best practices, says Stancil.”

Roving Pittsburgher Report
Ivanov, Pittsburgh Irish Classical Theatre Chekov Festival
Review is coming at Roving Pittsburgher Report but all I can say is,
“if you think your family is dysfunctional, then just go and see this
play.” Chekov in “Ivanov” sheds a new light on how intense a

therapy group can be and to what lengths friends, neighbors and
lovers will go to enable a miscreant loved one with a foul temper and
absolutely no joie de vivre.
The play is dark but the PICT cast has a way of getting
entertainment out of the darkest pieces and their standards of
excellence as a repertoire theatre never disappoints. David Weylan’s
is outstanding as usual as Ivanov. Also the guy having the most fun
on stage is Matt De Caro as Borkin. Runs through August 25.

This Dragon Roars on the Shore
Opening night of the Quantum Theatre’s production of The Golden
Dragon took place on the ‘shore’ of Lake Carnegie in Highland Park.
Lake Carnegie, for the unfamiliar, sits in the Park near the
swimming pool, above the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium. It started
out as an interim pumping station for the Reservoir. Quantum
Theatre built stadium seating directly in front of the dock to
accommodate the audience.
The playwright, Roland Schimmelpfennig, explores the accident of

destiny and the interchangeability of experience, as well as
multi-cultural understanding and prejudices – wrestling with
“otherness” in this work. The prominence of globalism and nomadic
behavior drives home the message that we are all “inexorably
linked.” The message is timely, given the 2012 London Olympics as a
backdrop in time.
The production of The Golden Dragon runs from August 2nd through
the 26th. Read the entire review here.

The cones come in child’s, small and medium and it is a rite of

There are hard serve and soft serve, non-fat yogurt flavors, and dole

PSO Tribute to Marvin Hamlisch

STATEMENT FROM THE PITTSBURGH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
ON MARVIN HAMLISCH’S DEATH
Marvin Hamlisch’s passing is a tremendous shock to all of us at the
Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. He was a true and great friend who
absolutely loved the PSO, our audiences and this city. He considered
it his second hometown and it clearly showed, whether he was
taking in a Pirates game, dining at his favorite restaurants or
patronizing stores.
His remarkable accomplishments as a musician, composer and
conductor are well known and documented. We are indeed fortunate
that he spent 17 seasons with us as our PNC Pops Principal
Conductor, sharing his talents and creating memorable programs.
But there was another side to Marvin. He was a gentleman who
always found a way to brighten our lives with his sharp wit,
wonderful sense of humor, kindness and grace.
There is no doubt that our audiences will miss him very much. He
cared greatly about them and worked tirelessly to create the best
possible experience for our patrons.
Marvin was a unique individual and our world is a less joyful place
without him. He will truly be missed by staff and musicians at the
Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Marvin’s family, and his wife,
Terre.
“We were lucky as musicians of this orchestra to get to know this
man,” said Cynthia Koledo DeAlmeida, PSO’s principal oboe. “A lot
of people didn’t know him, about his kindness to the musicians, staff

and, especially, the audience. He really became a part of our city. He
loved this city. He was here for so many years that many of us
became close friends with him and his wife, Terre. I’ve been lucky
that we had the opportunity to know them. We are all shocked and
truly saddened.”

Pittsburgh, PA: Hip whip. Taking a knee. Grand slam. Rink rash.
This is the unique vernacular roller derby, which is alive and well in
the City of Champions. Photographer Rob Larson beautifully
captures this bawdy, theatrical sporting subculture, as well as the
physical ramifications (like rink rash) found in Pittsburgh’s robust
Roller Derby scene with his most recent photo exhibit Derby at the
Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s 709 Penn Gallery. This exhibit is free
and open to the public.
They’re some of the toughest athletes you’ll ever meet. They don’t
play on a field of unblemished grass or on a rink of glassy ice. They
don’t sign million-dollar contracts. And they don’t have lucrative
endorsement deals.
Roller derby is made up of tough, smart and fascinating women who
work up a sweat, get bruised, and sometimes draw blood for no
other reason than they love the sport. They are sisters, daughters,
wives and mothers. They are teachers, designers, and small business
owners. And they all skate to win. Through the collection of
portraits that make up Derby, Rob Larson captures the spirit and
power of an attraction that has, much to the thrill of its fast-growing
number of fans, gone from 70s Saturday afternoon camp to today’s
serious adrenaline rush.
About Rob Larson
Pittsburgh-based photographer and mixed-media artist Rob Larson
enjoys photographing urban landscapes, people and the suburban
nights. This is followed by his interest in employing silk-screening,

wheat-paste and spray paint to make art that he liberally covers in
shellac. Schooled traditionally in photography, Rob focuses on more
intense lighting and heavily geometric compositions to pull together
images that tend to be more ambiguous with their stories and
statements.

WQED Celebrates Super Teachers Digital Learning Group
Aug 10, 2012 08:23AM

http://pplmag.com
WQED CELEBRATES FIRST YEAR OF SUPER TEACHERS DIGITAL
LEARNING GROUP AND LOOKS FORWARD TO YEAR TWO
Event Welcomes Deputy Secretary of the Pennsylvania Office of
Child Development and Early Learning
PITTSBURGH – WQED hosts a celebration of the accomplishments of
the first year of iQ: smartmedia Super Teachers on Friday, August
10 at the Foster Early Childhood Center in McKees Rocks. Special
guest speaker for the recognition event will be Dr. Barbara
Minzenberg, Deputy Secretary of the Pennsylvania Office of Child
Development and Early Learning.
“There is much more on the horizon…we are gearing up for the new
Positively Pittsburgh Live
Page 54
http://pplmag.com
school year with our new math curriculum, among other innovative
In just the first year, the contributions of WQED’s SuperTeachers
total $97,000 in value through curriculum development, training and
implementation of digital assets for the early childhood classroom.
In year two, the Super Teachers will incorporate new PBS children’s
shows, training, and construct a new Head Start curriculum on math
with PBS collaboratively.
PBS programming and digital assets are particularly important to
kids who are at-risk: those with learning ability challenges, autism,
and those in underserved communities in Allegheny County. WQED
hopes to expand the program to other counties in western
Pennsylvania with additional funding for the program.
Unfortunately, a child raised in poverty will hear far fewer words or
affirmative statements from his or her parents than a child living in a
higher-income family. One study estimated that the average child in
a professional family heard 215,000 words weekly, compared to
125,000 in a working-class family and just 62,000 in a family on
welfare. Over the course of four years (before a child enters school),
Positively Pittsburgh Live
Page 55
http://pplmag.com
that “word gap” grows to a 30-million-word gulf between children in
low- and high-income homes. By the time a child from a low-income
family enters kindergarten, he or she may be 12-14 months below
national norms in language and pre-reading skills; these disparities
continue as the child ages and are linked to “challenges later in life,
including dropping out of school, teen pregnancy, and
unemployment” (CCSSO, 2009). Around the nation and here in
Pennsylvania, school systems fall short in meeting the needs of
children: Pennsylvania ranks 24th in the country in terms of access
to state Pre-K and Head Start for four-year-olds, and there are wide
racial and income-based achievement gaps at all grade levels.
WQED’s investment in Super Teachers stems from research received
from early childhood educators through preliminary research
conducted in late 2010. WQED surveyed early childhood educators
on their use of and familiarity with media and technology in the
classroom. Most teachers surveyed do not use any kind of
technology or media to assess student learning (60%).
A sample of the curriculum is available at www.wqed.org/education
in the Teachers section.
WQED Multimedia (www.wqed.org) has a proud history of honors,
including 128 National and Mid-Atlantic Emmy® Awards, an
Academy Award, and many, many others, including two Emmy®
Awards for Station Excellence. WQED was founded in 1954 as the
nation’s first community-supported broadcaster. The people of
WQED create, produce and distribute quality programs, products
and services to engage, inform, educate and entertain the public
within their community and around the world. WQED Pittsburgh is
one of the first broadcasters in the country to be fully high-definition
