AcrySof ReSTOR IOL
The ReSTOR Procedure
Keep Your Eyes Young and Healthy
How it Works
Presbyopia, the gradual loss of your eye’s ability to focus on objects up close, happens to all of us as we reach middle
age. Usually beginning some time in your 40’s, you’ll start to experience blurred vision while reading, dialing a cell
phone or working on your computer, for example. As you age, the lens inside your eye gradually hardens and becomes
less flexible, making it more difficult to focus on nearby objects.
The AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL is a
multi-focal lens that contains a unique
mechanism to provide both distance and
near vision.
Until now, people had to use cumbersome reading glasses and bifocals to see up close. But, with the new Restor lens,
Dr. Beers can give you clear vision for both reading and distance. If you want to be able to see the menu or read your
scorecard on the golf course without putting on your reading glasses, Restor could be a good option for you.
The apodized diffractive optics comprises 12
concentric “steps” around the optic zone of the
lens. These steps, which appear as rings in the
diagram above, create different focusing levels
from near to distant vision.
For people over 50, Restor has certain advantages over Monovision LASIK. With Monovision LASIK, one eye can see
in the distance while the other eye can see up close. With Restor, both eyes can see 20/20 in the distance as well as
up close for reading. Also, because the aging lens inside your eye has been replaced with the new Restor lens, you will
never need cataract surgery in the future. If you already had LASIK, you may still be a good candidate for Restor. With
all the technical advances in medicine, people are living longer, healthier lives. Ask Dr. Beers about keeping your eyes
young with Restor.

What is Presbyopia?
ReSTOR
When you were young, the natural lens inside
your eye was both flexible and transparent. It
could easily focus back and forth so you could
look at an object far away and then read
something up close. You may notice as you
enter your forties or fifties, your eyes no longer
focus as readily as they once did. You may
begin to have a hard time reading, working on a
computer or just generally seeing objects up
close. This is because as we age, the lenses
inside our eyes are also getting older. This
condition is called “Presbyopia” and eventually
affects everyone. Presbyopia is not a disease
but a natural part of the aging process.
The Safest And Most Successful Procedure Performed Today
With presbyopia, it is difficult to read small print up close without
reading glasses or bifocals.
The First Step to Younger Eyes
The first step is to schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. Beers to determine if you are a
candidate for Restor®. If you are over age 50, you may be a candidate even if you had LASIK or other
eye surgery in the past. The consultation will take approximately 45 minutes. Dr. Beers will perform a
thorough eye examination and will answer any questions you may have.
To schedule your free consultation, call Dr. Beers at 1-877-5BEERS5.
The Procedure
The procedure is painless and takes approximately 20 minutes. Dr. Beers performs Restor
procedures at his surgery center conveniently located near his Mountain View office. Peninsula Eye
Surgery Center is expertly staffed and one of the largest (in terms of volume) outpatient eye surgery
centers in the state of California. During the procedure, Dr. Beers will replace the aging lens inside
your eye with the new Restor lens through a tiny incision. The procedure is similar to small incision no
patch cataract surgery which Dr. Beers has successfully performed thousands of times over the last
15 years.
What to Expect After the Procedure
The Restor procedure provides a full range of vision without the
use of reading glasses or bifocals.
After the procedure, you will rest comfortably in our surgery center for a short while before being
driven home. You will be given prescription eye drops and a protective eye shield to wear that night
while you sleep. You will feel very little, if any, discomfort. Most patients see well enough to return to
their routine activities the day after surgery.
