Measuring and Specifications
Homework
• What features/benefits and advantages are you going to
share with your client so that they have a better idea of why
they should buy from you vs going to a local retailer?
– Designer expertise, that includes professional measure and
installation service.
– The customer has thousands of fabrics to choose from and a wide
variety of treatment styles.
– Custom draperies are made to the client’s exact size specifications to
fit their windows. We can accommodate much wider widths and
longer lengths. Most ready made draperies these days are rod pocket
draperies and do not traverse.
– Custom draperies are made with higher standards - blind stitched
double hems on the bottom and side hems and 2 1/2- 3 X fullness,
custom lining.
– Options; if a customer needs the draperies to insulate against heat /
cold or noise we can do that. Most ready made draperies do not offer
a variety of linings or offer more than rod pocket or grommets.
Homework
• Following your explanation about “why
custom drapery” you will want to share with
your client the ballpark price range. What is
the ballpark price range for a 48” x 48”
window with custom drapery? $500-$2500
Homework
• In the next webinar we will be talking about
hardware in detail. What is the difference between
fully functional drapery and stationary side panels?
– A pair of side panels does not cover the whole window and
they are not meant to function; decoration or to frame the
window.
– A functioning drapery usually traverses (moves back and
forth across the window) and covers the window
fully. They are decorative, they insulate the window, they
add privacy, they can also completely darken a space.
Homework
• What is the recommended finished width for
a pair of stationary side panels? 56” Pair or
28” panels
• The most popular style of drapery is a Three
Finger Pinch Pleat---when installed on a
traversing track would you specify 1) Full
length 2) Trouser Break 3) Puddle? Full
Length- ½” off the floor
