Champion Mathletes
By Ursula Hebert-Johnson, Student
In only its second year of existence, the WSHS Math Team
won first place in the large schools division of the Central
Maine Math League (photo below)! WSHS placed second
overall in the CMML which consists of 24 teams. Max
Burger-Roy was the highest scoring sophomore in the
CMML and Ursula Hebert-Johnson was the highest scoring
senior.
You can view a recent Morning Sentinel article about the
Math Team online at http://www.onlinesentinel.com/news/
Waterville_math_team_becomes_area_powerhouse_.html?
pagenum=full. After reading the article, Waterville Mayor
Karen Heck dropped in on a team practice to meet the
mathletes and converse with the team about the value of
mathematics (photo at right).
The Math Team is now in high gear preparing for the state
meet on April 8 in Bangor at the Cross Center.

Guidance News
SAT I TESTING: Saturday, May 3rd. This testing is mandatory for all Juniors and 3rd year students.
Students are automatically pre-registered and should have received an admission ticket in the mail. The test is
paid for by the State of Maine. Students should be at WSHS no later than 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 3rd. A
letter with more information will be mailed home. Please contact the guidance office with any questions. As
part of the SAT initiative, students would have completed the Science section on March 26th.
COLLEGE FAIR: All juniors are expected to attend the College Fair on Thursday, May 22nd at the Augusta
Civic Center. Permission slips will be distributed to all advisee groups and must be signed by parent/guardian
and returned to guidance by Monday, May 19th. Any junior who sits for the SATs on Saturday, May 3rd and
attends the College Fair will receive a compensation day (date to be determined).
PROGRAM OF STUDIES is available on Waterville Senior High School’s website for parents to review course
offerings.
SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES: Information on various summer offerings at colleges/universities is available in
guidance. There is a broad spectrum of offerings; many require a tuition fee, however, there are scholarships
available.
BALLOONS: The bulletin board outside of guidance will once again have the map of the United States with
students’ names on balloons indicating where our seniors will be heading off to college. Hopefully, this serves as
an inspiration to underclassmen.
SCHOLARSHIP BULLETINS: Bulletins are being distributed to all homerooms and are posted in guidance as
well as on the Waterville Senior High School website. Scholarships are still arriving in guidance – many local
scholarship monies are available. Application forms are available in guidance.
COLLEGE/CAREER VISITATION FORMS: Juniors and seniors who are planning to visit a college must first
complete a College/Career Visitation Form from their counselor. If approved, teachers must sign the form for
the day/days the student is to be absent. The parent/guardian must sign the form and return to Ms. Bard in
the Main Office – this form needs to be completed two days prior to the visit.
SENIORS AND PARENTS OR GUARDIANS: Please be sure to check your emails from FAFSA. You will need
to check your Student Aid Report (SAR). The federal government has changed guidelines for updating
information for the financial aid office. Once you’ve completed your taxes you must go back into the FAFSA
and update your financial information by using the IRS retrieval tool.
