Risk Managers Information Meeting
YEARS

T
hree hundred thirty-seven people—121 Member representatives, 78 Member brokers, and 22
past directors and their spouses, including the five founding directors—kicked off Energy
Insurance Mutual’s 25th anniversary year at the 2011 Risk Managers Information Meeting at
the JW Marriott Orlando, Grande Lakes, south of Orlando, Feb. 20-22.
In addition to the anniversary theme, the meeting also embraced the title of a popular song from 1986,
the Company’s founding year. “The Future’s So Bright” was taken from the song’s title, “The Future’s
So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades.”
The primary anniversary event was Saturday, Feb. 19, a Directors Dinner, honoring directors, both past
and present. Forty-four men and women from EIM Member Companies have served since the founding
on June 13, 1986.
The business sessions were Monday and Tuesday mornings. On Monday, the first David L. Hadler
Risk Management Award was presented to Gary Meggs, director, risk management, Southern Company,
and EIM management gave, as a panel led by President Scott Goodell, a “state-of-the-company” report.
The session ended with a guest speaker. The highlight of the Tuesday session was three breakout sessions,
each repeated, on Emerging Issues, Enterprise Risk Management, and Energy Insurance Services.
The EIM staff was the primary entertainment for the star-studded Monday night dinner when nine
EIMMYs were presented to various EIM Member Companies and risk managers.
