Friends of Hollywood Cemetery, a 501(c)3
organization, was founded in 2007 to
provide the restoration and conservation
of monuments, sculptures and ironwork
within the cemetery.
LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN
Dear Friends,
Thank you for making 2015 such a fantastic year!
Because of you, Friends of Hollywood Cemetery has now completed Phase II of our
comprehensive capital restoration of the Cemetery. You have helped us raise more than $2.2
million which has gone directly to:

Restoring and cleaning 2,672 monuments
Restoring and repairing 200 fences
Completing restoration of 15 of the 44 sections of the Cemetery
Continuing the critical internship program with VCU which is creating the next generation of
craftsmen and women with historic restoration and repair skills
A lot has been happening here and I would like to re-cap the highlights of all that your
investment here has made possible:
This Fall, we dedicated the newly restored Palmer Fence at Presidents Circle, one of the
first and most ambitious projects we undertook. This 19th century fence in the rinceau
style (French for “foliage”) is one-of-a kind but had suffered extensive damage from
weather, tree damage and unplanned encounters with vehicles of every size. Come and
see it on your next trip to Hollywood and celebrate its return.
You responded to our call to meet the $100,000 challenge grant issued by The Cabell
Foundation to support the digitization of our genealogical database. Hollywood is a treasure
trove of historical family information and visitors come from around the world to trace their
lineage here. By fully matching the challenge, you have enabled us to create a world-class
repository of genealogy information. Stay tuned for more information on this new resource.
We have kicked off Phase III of our capital restoration efforts, beginning with three James
River Overlooks. The James River Garden Club, Dominion Foundation, the Richard S.
Reynolds Foundation, and the Bob and Anna Lou Schaberg Fund at the VNHC invested
in Overlook I, the Lettie Pate Evans Foundation invested in Overlook II and the Ratcliffe
Foundation has invested in Overlook III. We are profoundly grateful for this support as we
launch this next phase of our work.
