The barrels we manufacture are steel or bronze and most often modeled after smooth bore field cannons used during the civil war. We manufacture both field and marine carriages. The field carriages have oak wheels and oak or other wood in the body. An example of a field carriage is shown in our logo. Our marine carriages are oak with steel axles and have oak wheels. Mountain Howitzer Marine Carriage Mountain Howitzer Golf Ball size on Field Carriage Our cannons are manufactured in Altamont, Kansas. Our barrels are lathe turned and bored. Trunnion pockets are milled into the barrel and the lathe turned trunnions are fitted into these pockets. The trunnions are then J.B. Welded in place. Bronze barrels are dry and wet polished on the lathes and final polishing is accomplished on a large buffing machine. Steel barrels are lathe polished and blued with a commercial gun bluing. New Cannon modeled after the Come and Take It Cannon fired in Gonzales in 1835. Barrel is 12” and cut from 3” stock. All purchasers of fireable signal cannons must be at least 21 years old, meet any requirements for ownership put on them by their place of residence. Kansas Cannon Works produces and markets black powder cannons for display and salute firing. Several barrel styles are shown, we can also cut custom style barrels and have a model of a 32 pound English sea cannon. In addition we have a Mountain Howitzer with a 1.7” bore. Large barrels are turned from 4 inch bar stock and over 24 inches long. The top barrel is a scale model of a 6 lb civil war cannon and has a bore of approximately 1 1/4 inches. The bottom barrel will fire golf balls. Each barrel weighs approximately 50 pounds and are gun blued finish for easy maintenance. Barrels can be fitted to a sea carriage or our largest field carriage which has authentically scaled oak wheels with steel bands and steel tires. The complete carriage is hardwood and the axle is all steel for a very strong and durable unit. Our standard barrels include: Model of the 1835 Mountain Howitzer Model of the English 32 pounder.
