The barrels we manufacture are steel or
bronze and most often modeled after
smooth bore field cannons used during the
civil war. We manufacture both field and
marine carriages. The field carriages have
oak wheels and oak or other wood in the
body. An example of a field carriage is
shown in our logo. Our marine carriages
are oak with steel axles and have oak
wheels.

Our cannons are manufactured in
Altamont, Kansas. Our barrels are lathe
turned and bored. Trunnion pockets are
milled into the barrel and the lathe turned
trunnions are fitted into these pockets. The
trunnions are then J.B. Welded in place.
Bronze barrels are dry and wet polished on
the lathes and final polishing is
accomplished on a large buffing machine.
Steel barrels are lathe polished and blued
with a commercial gun bluing.

Kansas Cannon Works produces and
markets black powder cannons for
display and salute firing. Several barrel
styles are shown, we can also cut
custom style barrels and have a model
of a 32 pound English sea cannon. In
addition we have a Mountain Howitzer
with a 1.7” bore.
Large barrels are turned from 4 inch bar stock and over 24 inches long. The top barrel is
a scale model of a 6 lb civil war cannon and has a bore of approximately 1 1/4 inches.
The bottom barrel will fire golf balls. Each barrel weighs approximately 50 pounds and
are gun blued finish for easy maintenance. Barrels can be fitted to a sea carriage or our
largest field carriage which has authentically scaled oak wheels with steel bands and
steel tires. The complete carriage is hardwood and the axle is all steel for a very strong
and durable unit.
Our standard barrels include:
Model of the 1835 Mountain Howitzer
Model of the English 32 pounder.
Model of the 1857 Napoleon
