So, what is a soirèe? A soirèe is a gathering, in this case, of like-minded people to enjoy a feast of musical talent from the students, and some teachers, at MPS. The MPS Musical Soiree is open to any student with a musical or performance talent who would take pleasure in sharing this with others who appreciate and support their musical journey. Teacher Performance & Development All staff in Government Schools undertake a P&D process each year. This involves the development of a performance plan at the beginning of the year that outlines goals and targets that will be pursued to further student learning outcomes. Each of the goals outlines a set of strategies that will be implemented and the evidence that will be provided that indicates the goal has been achieved. Email address: [email protected] Website: www.morningtonps.vic.edu.au Phone: 5976 5500 Fax: 5975 8219 A further important component of the process at MPS is the classroom observation I will undertake with each of the teaching staff. Each observation, of approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, will be followed by a professional conversation to discuss areas of strength and further improvement. Some of the focus areas this year relate to giving effective feedback to students. There is a body of research indicating that when ‘feedback’ processes are improved, students achieve better learning outcomes. Educational research also indicates that a key factor in student learning is the quality of the teaching that takes place each and every single day. The P&D process is integral to teacher improvement. Through the various strategies implemented at MPS, we will continue to focus on improving teaching and learning. Collaborative planning; professional development and an effective ‘performance and development’ process support this on-going endeavour. State Schools are Great Schools! Prep/STAR Enrolments, 2017: Enrolments for 2017 have commenced. School tours will continue over the coming weeks. Please call the school office to book a tour. Silvio Vitale Principal Mornington Primary School is A great place to educate! MORNINGTON PS PYP EVALUATION – PARENT HELP REQUIRED. As you would know from previous newsletter items, on 5th, 6th and 7th of September, two visitors from the International Baccalaureate will visit our school to complete our very first IB Primary Years Programme Evaluation. Staff and School Council have all worked towards this Evaluation throughout the year and it is a very exciting time for us. As part of this Evaluation, the two visitors; Nick and Alex, would like to talk to a group of MPS parents about their impressions of the PYP, their perspective of our school and how they believe their child‘s learning is progressing. Ideally we would like to have a representative group of parents from across the school. This is not a question and answer session, but rather a discussion about your perspective of our school – there are no right and wrong answers. If you would be willing to come to school on Monday 5th September at 3pm to talk to Nick and Alex as part of a group for about 30 minutes could you please contact Susan Mattingley either at the office or on 59765500.
