The reception for the Guild’s 23rd Annual Open Juried show was quite an event. A fine array of
diverse art, coupled with an a cappella performance by members of the Chorus of the Atlantic, made
this reception a tough act to follow! However, the reception for the Plein Air Painters of the Jersey
Coast was certainly worthy. Barbara Paskin serenaded us with her vocals and acoustic guitar, and
Guild Vice-President and Plein Air artist, Tony Migliaccio, did a masterful and informative
demonstration before a packed studio audience. We expected people to amble into the studio
periodically to view parts of his hour long demonstration; however, the rapt crowd stayed for its
entirety. Reception attendance of more than 170 people was proof positive that this event was a
special occasion. The sensitive portrayals of land and sea were a savory feast for the eyes and soul.
Be sure to mark your calendar to attend our All Guild Members’ Holiday Show reception,
annual meeting, and holiday party on December 13th beginning at 2:30. You may vote at that time for
our 2016 slate of officers, and view our gallery and lobby exhibits. Guild members will also display gift
tables of artwork, bin racks of flat work, and a Cash and Carry show featuring original fine art priced
under $100. This event has been very popular in the past, and will be a real treat again this year.

The Guild is the only art venue in our area that has three levels of membership, the two
higher levels subject to portfolio review. The Exhibiting and Associate memberships offer increased
member privileges and opportunities to exhibit. We believe this system encourages our members to
strive toward greater artistic skill, professionalism, originality, and expertise. We are gratified that
eleven artists submitted their work this past November 12th for our semi-annual Portfolio Jury. We
invite you to attend our Exhibiting and Associate Member Show in February. You will find the quality
of our Exhibiting and Associate members’ artwork to be unmatched. The November Portfolio Jury
augmented our member base with additional outstanding painters and photographers. We welcome
them, and encourage all General members to submit artwork for the next Portfolio Review in June
2016.
Attention
All Guild
Members
We continue to await the results of our $48,200 Community Development Block Grant
Application to make the Guild fully ADA compliant. The design plan includes a resurfaced parking lot,
redesigned and regraded ingress and egress ramps with handrails and increased lighting, touch pad
activated automatic doors, and new back doors with an easily accessible route to and from the
parking lot. These changes will improve access to the Guild for all of our visitors. We are hoping to
receive approval by the end of this month, with funding to begin during the summer. Still keeping
those fingers crossed!

March 5 to April 6, 2016
Eligibility: Open to all photographers working in traditional, digital or combination of both.
Entry and judging categories: Monochrome and Color photography.
No photographs previously shown at the Guild will be accepted. All elements in a composite image must be the original work of the
submitting artist and may not incorporate elements produced by anyone else.
The Guild has the right to reject objectionable and non-conforming images.
Submittal: All entries must be submitted on line as digital jpg image files. The judge will review the digital jpg images to select those
suitable for conditional acceptance to exhibit in the show. The final judging for awards will be based on the actual photographs on display in
the exhibit. Up to three (3) images may be submitted. Based on the judge’s decision and subject to exhibit space availability, all of your
entries may be accepted.
Each entry uploaded must be in the JPG format (sRGB color space is best for color images) with no less than 1000 pixels on the longest side.
Artist’s initials or name identification must not be visible in the JPG, although it may appear on the final accepted print submitted for gallery

Click HERE for a membership application.
Acceptance: The judge will review the submitted JPG images and select those that are to be exhibited in the show—these are the
conditionally accepted* photographs. On February 17, a list of artists and artwork conditionally accepted* into the exhibit will be posted on
the Guild's website at www.guildofcreativeart.org.
*Final acceptance is contingent on the JPG you submit being an accurate representation of the work you deliver, having excellent print
quality, and meeting all of the requirements described in this Prospectus

Class Descriptions
Conquer Your Fear of Framing Your Art Yourself and Save Money with Hillary Binder-Klein: Showing our work as artists requires
artwork to be framed appropriately. In this course, students will learn framing options using simple tools and easily available materials. This course is
held in four sessions. Session one is a mandatory prerequisite for the course and covers assembly of the basic tool kit. Class 2, 3, and 4 teaches framing
with and without glass and mat. Sessions 2,3, and 4 are optional. Tuition is on a per session basis.
Move to the Right! Drawing from That Side of the Brain with Tera Yoshimura : Learning how to tap into the right brain enriches the
artist's abilities. We will be learning to engage the right brain to better coordinate the hand to eye perspective. The student will be able to see
improvement over time after acquiring basic right brain training. Everyone has the potential to be an artist once the basics have been learned.
Beginning Watercolor with Robert J. Stetz: This class provides step by step instruction for beginners in exploring watercolor, from selection of
materials, to using various techniques in establishing color, value, style, and composition.
Nanci France is a national award winning progressive realist well known for capturing human emotion with dramatic light, atmosphere, and
vibrant color. Nanci teaches Contemporary Oil Painting I & II, where students will learn traditional techniques for oil painting portraits, figures,
still life, and landscapes utilizing modern design and style. Her morning class is geared to beginner to intermediate levels, the afternoon class
focuses on intermediate to advanced students.
Watercolor for All Ability Levels with Randy Mayer: Guild Exhibiting artist, Randy Mayer, enjoys sharing her love of all things
creative. This class will be personalized to suit each student’s needs and interests. Students will be working from photographs and/or still life
subjects. Each class will begin with a short demonstration, leaving time for students to work on the painting of their choice. Each student will
receive personal attention.
Watercolor Impressions with Robert Nardolillo: This Watercolor class is designed to offer instruction in watercolor painting for all ability
levels. Students will learn to paint loosely and boldly while capturing the essence of their subject.
Watercolor with Deborah Redden: This class is designed to teach students of all levels the fascinating process of watercolor. Students will
learn how to use color, texture and value to create dynamic watercolor paintings. Brush work, application of paint, composition and design will be
emphasized. Classes will be individualized for each student with subsequent lessons building on prior knowledge. Each class begins with a demo
and appropriate warm up exercise, followed by students painting from their own material. Sessions end with closure and recap.
Fat over Lean – Mixed Media with Karen Dooney: This class will teach each student how to tap into their creativity and imagination.
Students will learn techniques to combine two or more artistic media, such as pastels, watercolor, pen & ink, and acrylic into one masterpiece.
Open to adults and teens.
Within the Layers – Mixed Media Workshop with Karen Dooney: Whether your style is fun and quirky or sophisticated, This workshop
is for you. Learn to create your own three dimensional piece of artwork using acrylics, pen & ink, combined with different fabrics.

interests. Students learn drawing, composition and color theory while working on their own choice of subject matter. Leslie also offers a Portfolio
Review class for teenagers who are preparing to be art majors in college and portfolio prep classes for young teens applying for high school art
programs.
Lyrical Abstract Expressionism with James Kent: Medium: Acrylics. The Lyrical Abstract Expressionism painting class begins its 18th
year in the fall of 2015. This class teaches the non-representational, non-objective abstract expressionist painting style as pioneered by artists
such as Richard Diebenkorn, James Brooks, Franz Kline, and others. Paintings are started with no preconceptions, with an emphasis on editing
as the most important part of the process. Students work in acrylics. Painting time and a group critique is offered.

Flat Work – including acrylic, watercolor, oil, pencil, pastel, photography, mixed media, and printmaking
Sculpture – including wood, glass, ceramic, metal, or stone
Work will be judged on the following criteria:
Consistency – Submissions demonstrate a consistent level of execution across all assessment criteria
Originality/Creativity – The work must be unique and inventive, and does not appear to be copied from other

it was done by the same person. Experimentation with materials and imagery, as well as evidence of risk-taking may
be present.
Composition/Design – Submissions show a strong understanding of composition, with interesting negative and

evident, effectively utilizing rhythm, repetition, unity, and harmony to enhance the overall design. The work should
be commanding, with fresh visual impact, organized around a strong center of interest.
Craftsmanship – Submissions need to demonstrate strong aptitude, skill, and dexterity in the use of the chosen
media and tools. Technical skills, such as drawing, carving, and the overall handling of materials should be consistent
and well executed.
Presentation – The artist must present the work in a professional manner. Frames and mats shall be clean,
