ART IN NATURE’ HIKING SERIES
French Creek Nature Center
Explore aspects of art as they are found in nature through a series of French
Creek Reservation hikes! Themes focused on color, texture, form, and more will be
supported with hands-on activities to help create connections between the realms
of art and nature. Certain activities may require that you bring along specific
materials (camera, sketchbook, or other items) – check the Arrowhead program
descriptions or contact Aimee at (440) 949-5200 for details.
PRESIDENT GARFIELD TO VISIT BURRELL HOMESTEAD
August 13, 1-4 pm
The 2011 August Picnic, which serves as a reminder of Burrell/Day/Root family
reunions, will take place on Saturday August 13 from 1-4 pm. Bring your own picnic
lunch to enjoy on the grounds, or just come to visit and see the Burrell Homestead,
home to some of Lorain County’s earliest settlers and a stop on the Underground
Railroad. We will have kids’ activities and guided tours of the home
at 1 and 3 pm. Our special guest for the day is President James A.
Garfield, as portrayed by re-enactor Ed Haney. He will tell the life
story of James A. Garfield, a distant cousin of the Burrell family, in
his presentation, “From Log Cabin to White House” beginning at 2
pm. All activities will take place at the Burrell Homestead at 2792
East River Rd., Sheffield, just ½ mile south of Rt. 611/Colorado Ave.
Parking is at the Burrell property; call Matt at (440) 458-5121 for
more details.
CHILD RESTRAINT SAFETY
August 12, 10 am -2 pm • Lakeview Park
Lorain County Metro Parks, in conjunction with Lorain County
Health Board’s Safe Community Coalition and Easter Seals Northern
Chapter, will host a Child-Seat Check Point at Lakeview Park on
August 12 from 10 am to 2 pm. One of the most important jobs you have as a
parent is keeping your child safe when riding in a vehicle. There are thousands of
child car seats for sale at stores. Trying to install child restraint systems into a
parent’s vehicle can be confusing and frustrating for parents. If these systems are
not installed correctly, the result can be serious injury if a vehicle crash occurs. On
August 12, parents can learn how to properly install their child’s car seat in to their
vehicle. Come any time between 10 am and 2 pm.

leads you down those hallways of Middle School where we just can’t wait to graduate!
