INSPIRATIONS
Dear Kathy, What is your talent? When you sing, do the angels themselves draw nearer to
listen? Are your culinary skills such that everyone you know is predicting that you
would be a top contender on Iron Chef? Everybody has a talent, something at
which they excel. Just because a person cannot create a masterpiece like
Monet's Waterlilies, or compose music as amazing as Mozart, that does not mean
a person is devoid of talent. Maybe your claim to fame is the world's best potato
salad. Perhaps your gift is the ability to always say just the right thing to comfort a
friend in need. What if YOUR parties are the ones all of your friends and family
members continue to discuss for months after the event? Our talents, the ways in
which each one of us is gifted, may not be something which will make us famous,
or wealthy, or grab the attention of the paparazzi. However, these abilities are
some of the many ways that make us unique and remarkable.
At our upcoming Summer Herbal Faire, Heavenly Scent will host more than 40
remarkable artists. Be sure to join us on Saturday, August 27 (10:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.) and
Sunday, August 28 (11:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.). You will be able to purchase culinary delights, pillows, handmade bath
products, candles, garden art, and so much more. Ulrika Vanover will be here selling her gorgeous pressed, dried flower
designs.
Jan Blough, owner of "Silhouettes and More" and fellow Fentonite, also
returns with her beveled glass ornaments, many of which have been
featured in homestyle magazines such as Cottage Journal.
Terri Kelly from "Thrifty Trixie" is back with her oneofakind apparel made
with vintage fabrics and trims. In addition, we will have Master Gardeners on hand to answer your most
puzzling garden questions.
Lunches will be available at our Savory Thymes Café area. Admission to this event is only $2.00 per person. Don't miss the fun. Who knows, you just might be inspired to try your hand at a
new talent!
New and Exciting in the Shoppe
We are busy checking in Halloween decorations and
by August 22 we will have our Halloween Room
completed! We have witches, so highly detailed
they could be considered sculptures. You'll also
see very cool‐looking skull and bones mirrors,
vintage pumpkin and cat sculptures, creepy
specimen jars, light‐up Halloween greeting boxes,
and friendly ghost garland. There is still so much
more to come!
It's been a Christmas‐in‐July experience as the
holiday stock has been rolling in. Just in time for
our Summer Faire, we will have one magical Christmas Room finished and
ready to enchant you.
Kitchen Pantry New tea has arrived from Republic of Tea! Organic Turmeric Ginger green
tea comes in unbleached tea bags. Blended with
organic cinnamon and honey, this tea contains
multiple antioxidants and has the benefit of
possessing antiinflammatory properties. Turmeric has also been known to assist with
weight loss! We also have a new set of three
stacked tins comprised of Double Red Rooibos
Tea, Double Green Matcha Tea and Double Dark
Chocolate Maté. For double the flavor and triple the tea, you can't go wrong
with this trio!
Have you tried our Blackberry Balsamic Vinaigrette from Earth and Vine? Here's a delicious recipe from Christopher Leadbitter for blackberry,
mozzarella, and Thai basil bites to entice you: First, create the glaze
combine ½ cup of Earth and Vine Blackberry Balsamic Vinaigrette and ½
cup of balsamic vinegar in a small pan. Simmer on medium low heat until
reduced by half and mixture becomes thickened. Let cool. Skewer 1
blackberry, 1 Thai basil leaf and 1 mozzarella ball on a toothpick. Sprinkle
with a pinch of salt. Drizzle with the cooled glaze and enjoy.
Greenhouse Gossip Our sales continue on all of our plants! Buy five
flowering annuals or herbs, get five free! EVERYTHING ELSE is 25% OFF! But wait, there's more! During our Summer Herb
Faire, plants will be at their lowest prices of the
season ‐ 60% off or more! Employee Gardens Have you ever wondered what the Heavenly Scent Employees' gardens look like? In this special section, we are featuring the vibrant, tranquil, whimsical or just plain
lovely, outdoor spaces of a different employee, each month.
Lorrie Callis, retired special education teacher and shoppe gal
Here's what she has to say about her gardens:
Picture of Lorrie and Gardens
My gardens have changed much over the past few years. Our three dogs, a Great
Dane named Willow, Black Lab named Maxie, and
Gordon Setter, Fiona, have become a part of the
family as our "grandkids" and have greatly altered the
look of my gardens. Our new additions to the family
wreaked havoc on the flower beds that border our
small city yard. For a time I found myself planting and
replanting, only to discover the pups plopped down in
the middle, comfortable in the new plants. What a
frustration! After much fruitless effort replanting, I
decided to make peace with the pups. This is when I
turned to more container gardening. I now use sturdy
pots to display our beautiful plants and everyone is
much happier!
Amusements and Diversions
We are so excited about our new Fall/Winter brochure, currently under
construction. It should arrive to your inbox by midAugust!

Food for Thought "If you hear a voice within you say 'you cannot paint,' then by all means paint,
and that voice will be silenced."
