he excitement begins as the
assembly bugle sounds. The
camp gathers as the senior arrows
nervously talk in the back of the
lodge. The tension builds up as
Uncle Jacob Addelson explains
what qualities a big captain should
hold. Uncle E.J. Kerwin then
explains the rules and the process
of the election.
Afterwards, all of the seniors
were introduced to the audience
and then sent to the soundproof
ping pong room. After the first
ballot of voting came to an end, five
seniors remained. These five seniors
included: Henry Brody, Mackie

Garwood, Nate Lee, Charlie Markell, and Ben Sosnow.
Charlie Markell received a majority of the votes, securing the first
spot as one of the two big captains
of 2015. In the second round of
voting two more seniors were eliminated, leaving Mackie Garwood
and Nate Lee. One of these two
seniors would join Charlie Markell
as the second big captain. After a
suspenseful third ballot, Nate Lee
pulled ahead of Mackie Garwood
and won the race for the second big
captain.
When asked about his goals for
the upcoming season Charlie Markell said that he wants “...to have
a fun and competitive summer.”
For those wondering why exactly
Charlie Markell chose Brown he
explained his reasoning by stating
that “I have had some of my best
summers on Brown.”

ig captains make many
decisions about the Brown
and Green season, such as picking
the teams and being a leader for
the rest of the team to look up to.
Yesterday, the Brown and Green
captains, Charlie Markell and
Nate Lee were elected. For all new
campers, and returning campers
who want a refresher, I interviewed
Uncle Will Kaye, the Green big
Free
captain of 2011, on what it means
to be a big captain.
WAG: What does it mean to be big
captain?
WK: It is a huge honor and there is
a lot of responsibility not just because you are a captain but because
people look up to you.
WAG: What responsibilities does a
big captain have?
WK: Some of them are to be a good
sport and to show respect for both
teams.
WAG: Does a Big Captain rely on
his fellow seniors often?
WK: Yes 100%
WAG: Does a Big Captain think
about B&G often?
WK: Yes, but it shouldn’t be their
main focus.
WAG: What was the hardest part
about being a Big Captain?
WK: The hardest part was making
sure everyone was happy.
