Our gift to parents this month is our free child watch service. We will be at the Extension Office on Mon., February 14th from 5-9 p.m. for parents to drop of their kids & enjoy a romantic evening out on Valentines Day. We will have pizza, drinks, games, & maybe even a movie or two. We will hold our normal meeting at 6:30 p.m. so if you don’t have any dinner plans please come to the meeting. We will be voting on T-Shirt designs & we will be needing your sizes. Please let us know if you plan on taking advantage of your night out gift so we can plan on refreshments. Ofc. West Kerr 4-H Club Will meet on Wednesday, February 9th at 6 p.m. at the Ingram Tom Moore High School Cafeteria. We will be making Valentines for the residents of the VA Hospital. Center Point 4-H Club This month we will meet on Wednesday, February 16th at 7 p.m. at the Center Point High School Cafeteria. Horse Club Will meet on Monday, February 28th at 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Office. Trap & Skeet Stay tuned for Trap & Skeet starting dates, safety orientation, meeting & practice dates. The District contest will be held in conjunction with the SALE competition on Thursday, February 10th. Archery Archery will start back on Monday, February 7th at 6 p.m. at the Ag Barn. They will meet February 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th. BB Gun/Air Pistol/Rifle Experienced Shooters: February 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd. Competitive & Postal Shooter: February 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd. Registration for the District 10 Contest is required on 4-H Connect between February 15th & March 1st and will be $5 per person. February 7th, 16th, 23rd, & 28th will be the meeting dates for the month. Veterinary Science This project will start Tuesday, February 8th at 6 p.m. at Town & Country Animal Hospital. Meetings this month will be February 8th, 15th, & 22nd. Photos are due to the Kerr County Extension Office by March 1st, no exceptions!!! Each participant may enter up to 3 photos. Photos must be 8X10 & dry mounted on foam board with the provided label affixed to the back. Photos will be judged prior to District Roundup & Fashion Show & “Best of Show” photos will be on display at Leakey Schools on Saturday, April 9th. Rural Youth Award The Texas 4-H & Youth Development Program in conjunction with the Texas 4-H Youth Development Foundation are pleased to announce the continued support from the San Antonio Livestock Exposition for the 2011 Rural Youth Awards. There will be 20—$1,000 awards awarded for the 2011 year. Eligibility Requirements: Applications are available now. Please contact the Kerr County Extension Office for one. The applications will be due in the County Office by February 7, 2011. $1,500 College Scholarship Available Monsanto & the National Association of Farm Broadcasters (NAFB) are proud to announce an open call for applicants for the 2011 Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship Program. High School Seniors planning to enroll as a fulltime student in an agriculture-related program from an accredited school & planning to pursue careers in agriculture are eligible to apply for a $1,500 Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship Award. Applicants will be evaluated on academic record, leadership abilities, extracurricular activities & personal essays. Applications are available online at www.monsanto.com/scholarships & must be submitted online by February 15th. • Must be at least & a high school Jr. or Sr. • Must have been active in 4-H for the past 3 yrs. • Must be willing to participate in the 2011 SALE Youth Day. • Must plan to attend a Texas college with a SALE eligible major • Must be a TX resident & US citizen Helping Texas AgriLife Identify Issues in Kerr County The Texas AgriLife Extension Service has a rich history of providing educational programs that address the most critical issues in the area of youth development in Kerr County. In order to make sure that the programs being planned for the future are on target, we invite your participation in an Online Issues Forum, located at http://extensionissues.tamu.edu The online survey should not take more than 10 minutes to complete, & will provide us with valuable insight into the issues facing citizens in Kerr County. Your opinion is highly valued in our community, so we truly hope that you will take a few minutes to participate. The online forum is currently open, & will remain open for input until midnight on March 1st. The link to the issue identification forum survey is prominent on the website, but should you have any problems, please contact the Extension Office at 830-257-6568. Texas Brigades Summer Camp Registration for the Texas AgriLife Extension Service’s Brigades camps this summer have begun. Youth are taught leadership skills & natural resources conservation at Texas Brigades camps scattered across the state. The Texas 4-H Foundation is excited to announce a new alliance partner, Lone Star Silversmith. Lone Star Silversmith has created a new line of 4-H jewelry items that can sold/ordered directly through Lone Star Silversmith & sold exclusively within the state of Texas. Lone Star Collections will donate 10% of all sales of the Texas 4-H Line of jewelry to the Texas 4-H Youth Development Foundation in the support of the statewide 4-H Youth Program. Camp dates & locations are: Carrizo Springs - June 5-9 Coleman - June 18-22 Campbellton - June 26-30 Santa Anna - July 11-15 Albany - July 17-21 Each camp is limited to 20-30 students ages 13-17. Tuition for the camp is $400 per cadet per camp, but sponsors are available to provide financial aid when needed. Whether you have a question about feeding, vaccinations, weights, etc. we are here to help. If you would like to schedule a time for Roy Walston to come out & take a look at your project, call the Extension Office to set up a date & time for Roy to come out. Swine scales are available for use at the Ag Barn to weigh your projects. Please call the Extension Office to make arrangements. HCDJLS Checks ***DO NOT CALL THE LIVESTOCK SHOW OFFICE FOR INFORMATION ON BUYERS OR CHECK STATUE. PLEASE DIRECT ALL QUESTIONS TO THE EXTENSION OFFICE*** At your February Club Meetings you will be able to pick up the following: the list of buyers that purchased your animal & a blank copy of the 4-H project record book. If you prefer to fill out your record book on the computer, contact the Extension Office & we will be happy to email you a copy of the record book in excel form. As long as buyers bills are paid in a timely manner, checks will be available for pick-up March 1st. In order to pick up your check, you must turn in a completed & signed project record book & a copy of the thank-you letters that were written to all buyers. A signature from the exhibitor, parent or legal guardian will also be required to receive your check. ***ALL CHECKS WILL BE PICKED UP FROM THE EXTENSION OFFICE BY THE EXHIBITOR OR LEGAL GAURDIAN** Major Stock Show Passes If you have entries in the Fort Worth, San Antonio, San Angelo or Houston Livestock Shows, your passes are in. They are available for pick up at the Kerr County Extension Office between the hours of 8-12 & 1-5 Monday - Friday. . . . . .to all participants in the Kerr County & the Hill Country District Junior Livestock Show.
