manufacturing to the Mojama hall,
adjacent to our Nokia premises.
MolokDomino production will
commence in the new premises as
scheduled in September this year.
The new Mojama hall is also the
location of Molok new training
center. The new premises were
inaugurated during the company’s
20th anniversary celebration, when a
number of international distributors
were present to acquire the latest
Molok knowledge.
New efforts will focus on improved
training together with product
development. Molok is accelerating
the pace of launching more versatile
product offerings and strengthening
the comprehensive range of both
product lines.
At the same time, we are
investing in the local manufacture
of MolokDomino products in the
export market. Fall of 2010 saw the
start of concrete container element
production in Denmark followed
by Spain in May 2011, described in
more detail in this issue.
Domestic deliveries as well as our
export markets have grown steadily
during the current year. We predict
the positive trend to continue, with
already
particularly
significant
developments in, for example, the
Canadian market as well as France.

According to the Molok global
business plan, MolokDomino
concrete molded elements will be
manufactured locally whenever
feasible. In May 2011, another
successful production line of the
MolokDomino containers was
started in Spain by Prefabricado
Agustin.
S
ituated in Monzón, the mountainous Northern part of
Spain, Prefabricado San Agustin can easily serve both
Spanish and French markets. In fact, the first major
order of MolokDomino containers was manufactured
for the municipality of Font Romeu in Southern France.
Good market prospects in Spain
Mr Álvaro Castán, Technical Director of Prefabricado Agustin,
believes that Molok deep collection system is very well suited to
the Spanish waste collection markets.
“Spain has warm weather and putting the refuse in an
underground container like MolokDomino avoids unpleasant
odors. Also, the system is less noisy than the traditional garbage
bins. Lots of homes in Spain sleep with open windows in
summer and as the waste collection is made at night it can be
annoying.”
“Molok is clearly the best system for efficient recycling, which
is developing rapidly in Spain. In many places, tourism fuels our
economy and we have to look after the tidiness of our waste
collection system. We have a beautiful heritage that we have to
maintain,” Álvaro Castán adds.

At the modern premises of Prefabricados Agustin, the production
start-up of MolokDomino containers was quite smooth. Mr
Mika Kiikkinen came from the Molok headquarters in Finland
to the factory to review the local production and spent a few
days showing how to make the modules.
“After the training, everything has gone well and we feel
quite confident to continue the production of high quality
MolokDomino containers in the future, serving both Spanish
and French markets,” believes Álvaro Castán.

Opening the
Chinese market
The efficiency of deep collection is demonstrated in China with pilot
projects. Molok Ltd’s distributor Cargotec has doubled the number of
Molok containers in China every year and is also confident of future
success in this giant marketplace.

Hiab crane.
Developing and manufacturing
this emptying truck took a long time.
It first required an approval from
the national government and after
that, building of a joint venture for
manufacturing, in addition to driving
trials of up to 2000 kilometers.
- But the investment has paid off.
We are now the only company to have
the license for the Special Purposes
Vehicle for emptying in China,
which clearly gives us a competitive
advantage, Mr Guanyan notes.
with Molok® pilot projects
An approved, specially designed emptying vehicle gives Cargotec competitive
advantage in the Chinese marketplace.
T
he cooperation between
Molok and Cargotec started
in China in 2005. The first
reference was the Olympic
park built for the Beijing Olympic
Games in 2008, where 28 containers
were installed.
- During the Olympic games,
Molok containers were operated as
transport stations, where up to a
thousand small garbage bins were
emptied. Both dry and wet waste was
collected using Molok containers with
good results, says Ren Guangyan,
Deputy Director of Cargotec, based
in Shanghai.
Target to get pilot in every
province

Shanghai.
Cargotec strives to install at least one
Molok pilot project in every province
in China.
- You can get an idea of the physical
distances with one pilot made to the
Northern Province. Getting there
from Shanghai requires first a four
hour flight and then a five hour drive,
Mr Guanyan says.
- Progress in Chinese sales proceeds
gradually. First, you have to convince
the organizations and state officials of
the system benefits, after that you can
start selling to the end customers,” he
adds.
A good example comes from an
oil city in Northern China. First, the
municipality bought just two Molok
containers to test. After that, they
ordered 40 more, then another 60,
and now plan to buy 100 containers
during 2011, making deep collection
the common waste collection system
in the city.

Cargotec is marketing in China not
just Molok containers but the total
Doubling the Molok
population every year is
the target
Today, Cargotec has 7 operational
pilot projects in different areas of
China. They include, for example;
orders to the city of Kelamayi, parks
in the Yellow Mountain area, Shenzen,
and Tianjin areas. Another pilot will
be built in the city centre of Shanghai.
With hundreds of Molok containers
now in operation, Cargotec plans to
double the numbers every year. The
main areas where Molok containers
are being marketed are the prosperous
cities along the Yangtze river.
China plans to introduce separated
collection of bio waste to the big
cities with a population of 1,3 billion
inhabitants during 2011-2015. Of all
waste collected, the amount of bio
waste is up to 60%.
- This provides another challenge
for Molok, because the company has
knowhow and products to form an
efficient bio waste collection system,
stresses Ren Guangyan.

Saint-Ubalde, Quebec adopts
THE MOLOK® SYSTEM
On June 22, 2011, members of the press were invited to Saint-Ubalde,
Quebec, Canada, to see a new depot of Molok containers up close. The
depot is a pilot project for the Municipality of Saint-Ubalde, which is a
rural municipality, home to five lakes and about 1,500 residents.
T
he depot is located at the
entryway to the cottages
surrounding Lac Perreault.
There are 66 households
and cottages in the area that are using
the Molok containers.
Prior to the Molok system being
installed, there were three dumpsters
for waste and eight roll carts for
recyclables.
“Old containers are ugly and
unhealthy and they don’t help people
to sort correctly and they throw wrong
things like metals, appliances, etc…”
explains the mayor of Saint-Ubalde
Municipality, Pierre Saint-Germain,
“so we decided to go ahead with this
project and to try Molok for a year.
If we are satisfied, we will equip the 4
other lake areas.”
In May 2011, five Molok containers
were installed, each with 5000 litre
capacity. Three are to collect waste
and two are for recyclables. The
containers are installed two-thirds
underground, offering a cleaner and
more efficient system, with virtually
no odours.
This is the first time in Quebec that
Molok containers have been used as a

Molok® exhibits at the
WasteTech 2011 fair
in Moscow
”WasteTech 2011” is the Russian equivalent of the German IFAT exhibition.
The exhibition enables Russian and foreign companies to demonstrate
their achievements as well as new ideas, technologies and solutions
in waste management. Attendees included representatives of Russian
organizations and foreign visitors.
T
his year, PetroWaste has
participated in three trade
fairs. A joint exhibition stand
was organized together with
Molok to present different sizes of
deep collection containers, CityScape
bins, locking and other possibilities for
hazardous waste collection as well as
trim options.
Molok and PetroWaste videos
illustrated the most important benefits
of deep collection, maintenance and
emptying. Thus, the ease of use,
practicality and quality of Molok were
depot in a rural setting. Residents will
appreciate having access 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week, to a nearby depot
that is clean and aesthetic. The depot
system should also motivate people to
sort their waste properly, improving
recycling rates.
Waste
Containers
highlighted for visitors.
During the exhibition, it became
clear that the deep collection method
is already familiar to many Russian
housing and municipal service
enterprises, both in the state and
private sector. Russian companies
manufacturing underground waste
containers also exhibited at the fair.
The challenge in the market is that
quality takes second place to cost. On
the positive side, today in Russia the
word Molok has become a colloquial
name for all deep collection methods.
In the last exhibition, vandalism
was still seen as a major problem
for waste management in Russia. A
fire in the container destroys most
of the components. For this reason,
the concrete MolokDomino aroused
much interest.
From the WasteTech fair, could be
drawn the clear conclusion that in
Russia, Molok products have a very
high potential, as long as the challenges
of cost, sales organization and local
manufacturing are met.

Grand
opening
Vilnius, the beautiful capital of Lithuania, had the grand opening for
its first MolokDomino containers recently. As a part of the Baltic Sea
Action Group projects, Molok containers serve in waste collection
near the famous white bridge over the Neris River.

he deep collection system is used to collect
and recycle paper, plastic materials and glass.
In addition to the first units, there are ongoing plans to install more MolokDomino
containers in the old medieval city centre.
“The documentation for a waste collection system
takes a long time in Vilnius, because everything built
inside the old town requires special permission. The
waste collection system has to be in line with the
historical atmosphere of the city,” says Martynas
Surplys, Managing director of Molok distributor JSC
“Amber infra” in Lithuania.
Both square shaped MolokDomino containers and
the original round Molok containers are planned for
Vilnius.
8
Other cities to follow
In addition to Vilnius, “Amber infra” is presently
offering deep collection systems to several Lithuanian
cities, like Radviliskis, Klaipeda, Visaginas, Trakai and
Utena.
- We see Molok deep collection system’s possibilities
in Lithuania to be very good. The waste collection
system needs renovation in most parts of the country
and deep collection is both a tidy and an economic
solution, believes Martynas Surplys.
Besides marketing the new containers, the
distributor “Amber infra” actively sells maintenance
and spare parts services in Lithuania.
9
20 years of success
In 20 years, Molok deep collection has evolved from an unconventional
idea into a global success story. The familiar roadside deep collection
container today looks after the waste management of up to 10 million
people on six different continents. Two decades of Molok history were
celebrated on 14 April 2011.
- Deep collection is proof of the saying
that good inventions are simple. The
vertical container, where new waste
compacts old, offers superior capacity,
reduced emptying frequency as well
as being easy to use and clean,” says
Veikko Salli, inventor and Molok
Ltd’s founder, in summing up the
advantages.
From roadsides to
residential areas
Molok Ltd’s first customer was the
Finnish road and water works authority,
which ordered a significant number
of Molok containers specifically for
use in roadside rest areas. Use of the
containers was tested carefully and
the positive results opened up wider
markets to the company.
The beginning of the 1990s saw an
experiment in waste management with
advanced Molok containers for about
10 000 inhabitants of the Varissuo
residential area in Turku. The area was
served with a total of 200 containers.

Europe and the Far East
Already quite early, Molok began
actively marketing its products
for export throughout Europe.
The company quickly developed
a
comprehensive
network
of
representatives, growing at the same
time into a true exporting company.
Molok containers soon became a
familiar sight in Swiss Alpine villages,
in Germany and France on motorways
and in parks, as well as Portugal’s large
residential apartment areas. At the same
time, Molok conquered new areas,
such as parks, tourist attractions and
commercial recycling.
In addition to Europe, Molok
expanded its export markets worldwide.
Activities got under way
in for instance, Canada,
the USA, Australia, New
Zealand and the Middle
East.
Board chairperson
Marja Hillis.
In-house manufacturing
and product development
After the turn of the millennium,
Molok made an important decision
to concentrate all its operations to
the same premises in Nokia. More
than 5,000 square meters of factory
and office facilities were built and
investments in modern rotational
molding machines were made. Today,
the entire production is almost
pollution-free with natural gas.
- Training and customer service
will continue to grow significantly in
Molok Ltd’s operations. At the heart
will continue to be the familiar and
easy to use Molok,” says the company’s
managing director, Jukka Blom.

Over 500
MolokDomino™ containers
to South France:
Font-Romeu
installs a complete
deep collection system
Font-Romeu is a commune in the Pyrénées
mountains, near the Spanish border in
the south of France. It is one of the oldest
ski resorts in France and, as one of the
sunniest places in the country, a center of
solar power research.
T
he commune has also
selected an environmentalfriendly waste collection
system. In the near future,
over 400 MolokDomino deep
collection containers will be installed,
covering the whole community and
two neighboring villages.
“We will build a total of more than
200 waste gathering locations over the
whole region using MolokDomino
containers installed for both recycling
and municipal waste collection,” says
Daniel Gauthier, President of Sirom,
the community’s waste collection
organization.
Waste, glass, plastic
and cardboard
Each gathering location will
comprise at least one part for
waste and one for plastic and
small cartons. In addition, at
about 120 locations, a half of
the MolokDomino containers
will be dedicated to glass and at
30 locations, specially developed
5 m3 MolokDomino containers will
be dedicated to folded cardboard
boxes.
Deep collection systems are best
because they can withstand the
snowfalls in winter and permit a large
increase in storage volume, which is
of paramount importance in a tourist
zone with widely variable population
(from 2,500 inhabitants out of season
up to 30,000 during peak periods).
“MolokDomino containers are best
because their square section allows
space saving and they can be shared for
storing two types of waste. In addition,
special containers were developed
for cardboard boxes. MolokDomino
containers can be easily set in a slope,
which is very useful in the mountains,”
Daniel Gauthier notes
Font Romeu is a village located in the
French-Catalan part of the Pyrenees,
200 km from Toulouse and 200
km from Barcelona, 100 km from
Perpignan and the Mediterranean Sea
and 60 km from Andorra.

Entering
POLAND
on several frontiers
The deep collection system developed by Molok is
entering Poland too. Headed by Rudi Joris, Molok Ltd’s local
distributor Molok Polska sp.z.o.o is proceeding with Molok
sales on several frontiers: from apartments to shopping centers,
highway builders, bus stops and municipalities.
- The main challenge for waste
collection in Poland is to develop it
according to the European Union
standards and laws. In fact, this
requires a lot of work and Molok can
really help Poland here, says Rudi
Joris, Managing Director of Molok
Ltd’s distributor.
- We firmly believe that Poland
is ready for Molok deep collecting
system and therefore the business
prospects are good, Joris adds.
First Molok containers to
apartment houses
The first Molok containers in Poland
have already been installed to serve
the residents of apartment houses in
the city of Poznán. In this application,
waste, plastic and paper are being
collected with 5000 litre containers
and glass with 3000 litre Molok
containers.
Presently, Lodz is also testing
CityScape bins in the train, bus and
tram stops in the city area. Likewise
a new shopping center under
construction, Suchy Las, has now
chosen Molok containers to be used
as their waste collection system.
Altogether 7 Molok containers will be
installed during October.
Now, Molok Polska sp.z.o.o expects
the biggest contract with a Polish city,
situated in the Northern part of the
country, near Poznán.
- We expect to deliver over 60
Molok containers to be installed
during the fall to central positions in
the city area, Rudi Joris says.
Interest along new
highways
According to Joris, there is also a
lot of interest among the highway
contractors to use Molok containers.
- We are bidding deep collection for
the rest areas along a new motorway
that will be built from the German
border to the capital city Warsaw.
T
he establishment of the
Nokia training center is
confirmation of Molok
Ltd’s investment in waste
management
education.
The
company’s goal is to develop deep
collection further and become
an international player in the
environmental service sector.
“The training center continues the
focus on the importance of training
in our operations. In the future, all
of our employees,
distributors
and
partners are able to
increase their knowledge
of deep collection and
waste management,” promises
Molok’s Managing Director Jukka
Blom.
The training center, located in
Nokia’s Nosturikatu (Crane Street)
will be the site of ongoing deep
collection and waste management-
related training modules: from
product information to emptying
demonstrations, safety and waste
management practices.
