PUBLIC LIBRARIES MAKE COMMUNITIES STRONGER AND WORK WITH LOCAL GOVERNMENTS AND AGENCIES TO BENEFIT OUR
COMMUNITIES IN FOUR AREAS.
 Early literacy services contribute to long-term economic success by enhancing school readiness and academic success;
elevating awareness of the need for strong reading skills and expanding learning resources.
 Library services and programs assist in workforce development by providing access to technology and training; providing
English language training and adult literacy services; expanding access to employment search and application opportunities
and providing career skills workshops in conjunction with community agencies.
 Libraries provide support for the creation and success of community owned businesses by reducing the costs for research
and planning; partnering with local, state and county agencies to provide business development workshops and research;
providing online business databases available to entrepreneurs 24/7/365 and providing access to current data on products,
suppliers, financing sources and competitors.
 Public library buildings act as catalysts for the structural development of communities by contributing to the stability, safety
and quality of life in neighborhoods; anchoring development, attracting significant foot traffic, and complementing
neighborhood retail and cultural destinations and generating foot traffic but not sales competition for local businesses.
Libraries truly do change lives by opening windows to the world, inspiring us to explore, achieve and contribute to improving our
quality of life.
