Construction of Pier Foundations
Stage 1:
Fabrication on land of steel jacket on its side comprising four 2.80
m dia. steel tubes and struts.
Stage 2:
Floating jacket into position of pier with side buoyancy tanks.
Stage 3:
Up-ending of jacket
Driving four Ø 1000 mm dia. tubular support leg piles with
structural connections to jacket.
Stage 4:
Construction of working platform on top of jackets, lifting
hydraulic casing oscillator onto platform and fixing it onto
platform. Installation of 2500 mm dia. drill casing comprising a
sacrificial section jointed onto the bottom of the main casing
section.

Stage 5:
Mounting and connecting BA 2500 top drill on drill casing.
Stage 6:
Installation of drill head, ballast rods and air-lift pipe assembly
with casing guides.
Stage 7:
Drilling down with air-lift flushing as the casing oscillator rotates
the 2500 mm dia. drill casing and jacks it down with its powerful
hydraulic rams.
In order to reduce the frictional resistance on the drill casing,
three hydraulically operated roller bits are extend laterally during
drilling. They underream the casing shoe.
Embedment of drill casing in conglomerate up to 20m.
Stage 8:
Drilling with fully extended roller bits to final depth.

Lifting top drill off drill casing, removing drill string and drill head.
Cutting drill casing inside steel jacket tube approximately 5 m
above bottom end of steel tube.
Stage 10:
Raising upper section of drill casing and holding it in position with
casing oscillator.
Stage 11:
Installation of reinforcement cage, which extends from the base of
the pile to 5 m above the top of the enlarged pile head.
Stage 12:
Lowering tremie pipe assembly into drill casing and concreting
pile to top of reinforcing cage.
Stage 13:
Extracting upper drill casing string.
Stage 14:
Constructing remaining three piles.
