Please Note: If you are registering a child for an activity, please use your own information when filling out the online registration account request form, NOT the information of the child you wish to register for an activity. Once you have an online registration account, you will have the opportunity to add family members. Will I be sent confirmation? Online registrations receive a confirmation email of each transaction. Phone and in person registrations will also receive confirmation only if an email has been attached to your online account. Unless otherwise noted, we will not hold a spot in a program without full payment. We will notify you if a class is filled or cancelled. Are there late pickup charges? Yes! It is very important that children be picked up on time at the end of a class or program. A late fee of $20 will be charged for every 15 minutes that a staff member must wait with a child to be picked up. Do you offer scholarships? Community Programs offers limited scholarships for most school year programs. Amount of scholarship is based on Maine State income guidelines for free and reduced school lunch. Scholarship applications must be completed at least 2 weeks prior to start of program. Our scholarship form can be found on our website under “Forms”. For more information or to apply, contact Community Programs at 865-6171. Some programs are ineligible for discounted rates. Scholarships do not apply to school vacation or summer programs. For summer camp scholarship information, please contact Freeport Community Services at 865-3985. Accessibility If you have a disability and need any special accommodations to participate in one of our programs, please call the Community Programs office at 865-6171. -3- Message from the Director As I sit here writing, the sky is a cloudless blue and the ‘winter’ temperature has been hovering around 50 degrees. I don’t know about you, but I miss winter. I miss hunkering down, having a forced slow-down due to snow storms. True, there are still quite a few weeks of winter remaining, and by the time you read this we could be under a couple feet of snow! This is Maine. If you don’t like the weather ..well, you know how it goes. For now, I’ll enjoy some oddly placed days of spring and seeing green grass outside my window. This late-spring and summer brochure brings quite a few new offerings. I won’t spoil the enjoyment of discovery for you by listing them here. Go exploring and you’ll find summer camps, new adult recreation offerings, and new offerings for youth in STEM and performing arts. People are getting involved. You should too! In Adult Education we had five more students graduate at the beginning of February in a wonderful ceremony at the Freeport Community Center. Our ESOL program for adults continues strongly under the tutelage of Marilyn Solvay, and Bob and Lois Deady-Shulz dutifully help students in our Learning Lab. See the Adult Education pages for details. Looking to increase your marketability? Considering a career change? Want to go back to college but it’s been so long that you aren’t sure where to begin? Check out the mini-series of workshops in May. Free College Transitions services are available to students of any age, including those who have just graduated from high school. Contact us for more details. Have a desire to serve? WE NEED YOU! With our expanding programs and role in the community, Community Programs is in great need of volunteers. Would you like to be a tutor? Want to coach? Are you good at graphic design and want to help us design a new logo? Would you oversee an enrichment opportunity for students after school? If you have a desire to make the towns of Durham-Freeport-Pownal vibrant places to live, work and play, then we have a place for you at Community Programs. Community Programs has an immediate need for candidates to sit on its Advisory Board. Like working on the big picture? Want to assist in identifying funding opportunities that don’t rely on increasing fees or taxes? Have experience writing grants? The CPAB meets 9 times a year to receive updates from the Director, provide advice and apprise the Director regarding interests and needs of RSU5 residents. The Board supports the work of Community Programs by advocating for programs and services, and through identifying opportunities for funding. The first meeting of a new CPAB will be in April. If you are interested in providing lifelong learning opportunities for all residents of RSU5, and would like to serve on the Board, please contact me. Be well! These locations and programs help to make parents' busy lives a bit simpler by allowing them to drop their children off at one location for the day, it also makes each child's day simpler by allowing for smoother, easier, transitions between before and after care and their regular school day. Who doesn't need a little simplifying in their lives? Our programs are responsive to children’s needs. The before school program allows children to come in at their own pace, providing such options as quiet activities, gross motor activities (in the gym or outside), games & creative art and craft activities. After a full day of school work our after school program is designed to provide plenty of time for the children to unwind and take part in much needed physical activity outside (on the playground or on the school trails) or in the gymnasium if the weather doesn't permit getting out into the fresh air. We also provide a healthy snack (in accordance with the national 5-2-1-0 program) and time for your child to do their homework, hopefully allowing for one less thing to do once your family finally gets home after a long day. We're here for you and your family and hope that we can meet your childcare needs in our three convenient locations! If you have a child between the ages of three and five and are considering preschool then please join our parent information night on Monday April 4th (snow date Wednesday April 6th). See information on the next page. If you are interested in our programs, or know someone who may be, please visit our website or call us for more information! We will begin taking registrations for the 2016-2017 school year beginning April 4th! Confirm your spot by registering soon!
