Memorandum of Understanding
Our Community of Schools (CoS), Warners Bay High School, Warners Bay Public School, Valentine
Public School, Eleebana Public School and Biddabah Public School, have been involved in drawing
up a Partnership Agreement. The Partnership Agreement is between the NSW Department of
Education and Training (DET) and the NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group Inc.
(NSW AECG) and is based on the principles of respect, commitment, collaboration and
accountability in order to improve educational and training outcomes for Aboriginal learners.
The Partnership Agreement is based on a genuine and practical approach to working together to
improve outcomes for Aboriginal learners by ensuring that they have access to an education and
training system that values their cultural heritage and identity and supports their learning and
career development through quality teaching practices, relevant policies and strategies and
inclusive curriculum and training programs.
Students, staff and parents attended a ceremony to mark the signing of the agreement which will
be known as a Memorandum of Understanding. Dance groups from Swansea PS and Hunter
Sports High performed at the event

LIBRARY NEWS
MATHLETICS
A quick reminder to all families that
Book Week 2016 runs from
Monday 22nd to Friday 26th August.
Our book fair will be held early that week and I will let
everyone know as soon as a day has been set.
Our visiting author is Oliver Phommavanh - an Australian author, comedian and teacher! Oliver will conduct a series of
workshops on Thursday 25th August for Kindergarten to Year 6
and promises to be highly entertaining, engaging and
informative. Further information will be sent home in
Term 3 with costs.
Friday 26th August is the day of our Kindergarten to Year 2
Book Parade. All students (and their teachers) are requested
to dress up as a book character and join in the fun. It is not a
competition and a book prize for a participating student from
each year will be drawn at random. Please do not go to great
expense - this is purely a fun parade to encourage students to
share their love of books and characters. If you are struggling
for ideas, feel free to contact me and I will share some ideas
(but remember, there are many books with princesses, pirates
and cowboys, for example).
Finally, there was a Bookclub order placed through the office
from Issue 3 but the order did not have a name (or even a
class) on it and the money was not correct for what was ordered. If any student is still waiting for a book from the last
issue, please contact the office!

SPORT NEWS
Newcastle Knights Knockout 2016
This year Biddabah PS entered a team in the Under 10s competition and the Open A competition.
The U10s played extremely well winning three games and losing two games in a very tough pool,
and unfortunately not progressing through to the finals. The Open A team did
extremely well winning all their pool games against some very tough competition.
The team then headed over to Valentine Ovals to play their quarter final against Singleton Public School
We won this game 16-0 progressing through to the semi-finials against Warners Bay Public School.
We won this game 20-0 giving us the opportunity to play against St Joseph’s Taree
Public School at Hunter Stadium on the 19th of July.
I would like to congratulate both teams on a fantastic effort. I would like to thank
Richard Swain and the many parents who assisted with travel to and from the grounds.
Coordinating Teacher
Mr Alex Knight
AFL Paul Kelly Cup
Last Tuesday boys and girls from Year 5 and 6 played in the AFL Paul Kelly Cup. Many players were new to AFL and played with
fantastic effort and determination throughout the day. The girls' team fought hard in 3 close games and never gave up. The
boys' team won all 3 matches on the day and will progress to the Hunter finals next term.
Congratulations to all involved and thank you to parents for providing transport and support on the day.

Biddabah 2016 Cross Country
In 2016 Biddabah Public School once again had a very strong team to compete at our Zone and Regional Carnivals. This year our
Zone Cross Country Carnival was held at Myuna Bay Sport and Recreation Centre. Our team did extremely well with a number of
students progressing to our regional carnival which was held at Cessnock Racecourse. To make the regional carnival is a huge
achievement and a number of students attended this event and did extremely well. One student ,Taj Blackman, was successful in
reaching the State Cross Country which will be later in the year at Eastern Creek Racecourse. Well done to all students who
competed this year and a big thank you to all the parents who assisted with travel arrangements on the day of the carnivals.

Boys PSSA Knockout Cricket
The boys have played two games in the knockout competition. The first game was against Rathmines. We batted
first, scoring 235 runs, then bowled Rathmines out for 15
runs. What a great win! In the next round Biddabah also
batted first and scored 140 runs against Wyee. Wyee were
bowled out for 41 runs. Another convincing win and a
great team effort. Well done boys!
Our next game will be against Warners Bay early next
term.
The boys are training after school every Tuesday. I would
like to thank Mr Williams and Mr Creer for assisting with
training.
