Students are also building parts for this year’s mission which is titled "Food Factor". After finishing with the building part, they are going to prepare a Power Point presentation based on the topic. After the design effort we are then going to start the equally important programming effort. Please, remember to take these precautions to have a safe and healthy winter. 1. Cover you mouth with your arm, not with your hands, when you sneeze or cough. By Nathaniel Martinez: 5th grade student, ASE If you are good at geography this might be your chance to become a geography bee champion. If you’re bad at geography this is your chance to get better. But hurry up and sign in, because we need more people to keep running the Geography bee club. This can be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Moreover, you can represent our school and New Mexico. Geography bee is like spelling bee. A person will ask a question and you will have to answer the question on a paper and yes, this goes worldwide. More important, we will have a lot of fun learning geography while we share snacks!!!! (Health) classmates from getting sick. (Continued from page 1) 3. If you are sick with fever, vomiting, or diarrhea, please stay home. Do not come to school. You will need to stay home for 24 hours and return only when a Dr. allows you to come back or are fever-free for 24 hours without medicine such as Tylenol or Motrin. This prevents your Math Games Club Monday's after school we will be building math skills in a fun way! Games for lower grades (2-5) in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with board games, BINGO with a twist, and Extreme connect-the-dots. The upper grades (4-6) are challenged with fraction war, coordinate 4. Frequently wash your hands. Please, keep your germs to yourself, even if that means staying home when you’re not feeling good. The ship that they were in was malfunctioning and they were going to hit the planet in front of them. They entered into the atmosphere; they were closing in on the ground and were about to crash. “Pull up, pull up!” the captain ordered. “I can’t! It’s stuck!” their pilot said. They crashed nose first. After a while, “Pull up, pull up!” the captain ordered. “I can’t. It’s stuck!” their pilot said. they found that their captain was pinned to his chair in the cockpit. (Photo Courtesy of Renjith Krishnan) Latest National Sports News By Gabe Aragon and Tommy Paasche: 7th grade students, ASE FOOTBALL BASEBALL COLLEGE WRESLTING The Denver Broncos current game against the Oakland Raiders wasn’t their best game of all time, they lost at their home stadium in Denver, Colorado at the Invesco Field at Mile High. The Raiders took a victory of only a three point win The current baseball game was the Nationals taking on the New York Mets. The Mets had a pretty rough time keeping up with the Nationals, the Nationals had an outstanding victory over the New York Mets with the final score of 10-1 with the Nationals in the lead. The final two U.S. women’s freestyle wrestlers and the first U.S. men's freestyle wrestler have weighed in and received their first matches for the World Wrestling Championships on Friday. Math Counts Club Have you ever been tired of doing simple math? Well today is your lucky day! In Math Counts club you can take advanced math classes. When you do a good job you will be rewarded nicely. This will help you to improve your grades in math. Even high school and college math will be much easier! Your parents will be happy as your test scores will be better. If you get really good you can even compete in Math Olympics. In our Media Literacy Club, we are putting together a school newsletter. Do you think we should talk about stuff that's happening in our school? I person- Hot Air Balloons Dear 5th grade student, The school news letter represents the school, students, the teachers who teach here, the administrators, parents who volunteer, and a safe, collaborative community. So, the school news letter has to represent the people who write it. Sure, it has to be goal ori- ally think that the school news letter is very important and should be thought of as a high responsibility and an opportunity! If you wish to include school projects or what’s going on in your class / classes then be “I personally think that the school news letter is very important and should be thought of as a high responsibility and an opportunity” By Victoria Montoya and Ariel Riddle: 7th grade students, ASE At the end of this month, on Friday, September 30th, the 7th grade classes will be launching hot air balloons ; not any hot air balloons, but balloons made out of tissue paper! The whole school will be able to watch this sight as it happens. So, if you have concerns or questions about the school that you want addressed, then that is what the segment, “Dear Me-OhMy” is about. You simply write your questions or concern about the school, homework, tests, or… basically anything that could be a question or concern to you and it will remain my guest, go right ahead! Your choice, your thought because remember it is as good as we make it! Sincerely, Me-Oh-My of the school. You will see different groups' balloon's float into the sky. The balloons will go very far, until they are out of sight. They will float as high as they can go. If the 7th graders for some reason can't get the balloons finished in time or the weather is not good for flying, then the balloon launch will be held another day. However, the launch will happen one way or another. (continued on next page) October 2011 October Events By Amanda Cress Tillotson: 6th-7th grade English Teacher / Activities Director, ASE October 10th— Students that didn’t like their portraits get a second chance today. October 11th— 1st and 2nd grade classess will be going to the pumpkin patch and the Dino Maize! Bring sack lunches and multiple layers in case it is cold. All students in 1st and 2nd grade will need to bring $8 for activity fees for the field trip. Each student gets to take home a pumpkin from the patch! Friday, October 21st— Students will be having an early dismissal. Parent/ teacher conferences will take place in the afternoon. It uses different styles and techniques to create different types each time. If you want to find out about the special secrets of this unique art, join us now before the spots are full! I especially love reading. What we’re doing is watching videos about advertisements and famous advertisements so we understand why we advertise. Once we have all agreed, we will evaluate one and just keep having fun with advertisements. Also, we’re doing a school newsletter. It’s really fun! P.S. ASE Students Make Art For Contest Some students at ASE this week decided to try their chance to win money with their ART. Students created an original piece of Art for the Hispanic Heritage Month Youth Art Contest. The theme of the contest was, “Many Backgrounds, Many Stories….One American Spirit”. Winners By Miss Barron: Art Teacher, ASE will be invited to attend and display their artwork at the Hispanic Heritage Diversity Celebration held at Sandia National Laboratories on Wednesday, September 28 from 11:30 am1pm.
