PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE - Brian
Ski season is upon us. As we look forward to the opening of Whistler later this month, why not
come up to the Lodge for the Season Opener Hot Pot dinner? It’s been a hit for years and a great
way to get the season started.
And join us for some of the ongoing Sports and Social events. They’re sure to be a good time!

EXECUTIVE REPORTS
WHISTLER LODGE
[email protected]
LODGE REPORT - Hilmar Schneider
Good news! It's cold and stormy. Not good for Kathy's late tomatoes but good for the mountains.
There's a mad dash for beds in Whistler and I don't mean making a new friend for the night. Whistler
is busier in the Summer now and the usual migration from Whistler in the Spring isn't happening any
more. So the vacancy rate is zero all year round. At least Inside Edge members have a place to
sleep.
It's time to hit the gym and work on your core.
SOCIALS
[email protected]
SOCIALS REPORT - Deb Reynolds
This past month we went for a beautiful walk around Stanley Park and it was so nice and sunny we
stopped and had fish and chips on 2nd Beach. Best fish and chips and view in the world. We are so
lucky to live here. We had 15 people out for brunch at Dockside pub on Granville Island. Another stellar
day with views of the water.
Look for a return of our famous Pub Crawl with Darcee this month and an evening at the Hastings Park
with a musician called Spirit Coo with Greg. (this musician reminds me a lot of Sting) Join me in thanking
all our event coordinators. You guys rock!
If there is a pub, a theatre performance, a walk or a brunch you think would be fun, talk to me and we will add it to our
future events. We would love to have an event in Surrey, White Rock, or Port Coquitlam, so please suggest a venue.
Who wants to see the Blue Jays or the BC Lions at a pub? Talk to me and we’ll do it.
SPORTS
[email protected]
SPORTS REPORT - Doug Johnson
Indoor volleyball and soccer are in full swing. Come out and join the fun. Teams are selected each night
with a good mix of seasoned and beginner players. It’s time to get up and enjoy the lodge at Whistler for
some great ski days. If you’re not a skier there’s lots of other winter recreation activities to partake in, like
skating or winter hikes.
If you want to suggest or help organize or host an activity, it's always appreciated.
Just fire me an email.
TOURS
[email protected]
TOURS REPORT - Melody Monro
October skies brought season change and so do your Tours as we hope for a
snowy winter playground on the hills.
Now we move into winter activities! We have a Manning Park tour coordinated by
Nicole again in Jan. 2016! Thanks Nicole for consistently putting on this fabulous
winter tour! It’ll sell out quickly so make sure to book a spot.

Eastside Culture Crawl is a really interesting evening, even in the rain! I have chosen quite a few studios with numerous
artists in order to decrease the building to building. And a pub in walking distance.
Route: 6:45 pm – 7:00 pm: Meet at Onion Studios 7- 1103 Union St. (visit the Yew Workshop (woodwork) at 1295
Frances at 6:45 pm on the way to the meeting point). We will leave at 7:00 pm and make our way to the following
venues: 936 Clark (Melk Studio); 975 Vernon – Mergatroid Building (multi-unit artists); 1000 Parker St (Parker Street
Studios – multi), here for a while as it is huge; and lastly: 1310 William St – William Clark Studios.
9:00 pm Pub: Storm Crow Tavern 1305 Commercial Drive (at Charles)
By car: park somewhere near Britannia Secondary School as we will make a ‘C’ shape around it.
By transit: Skytrain to Commercial/Broadway then take a bus down Commercial and walk east
down Francis (for Yew Workshop) or Venables depending on where you want to meet.
The success of our Club depends on its volunteer members. Our Club would
not be what it is without the work of our volunteers. Volunteers are needed to
coordinate activities such as a ski trip, hiking, snow shoeing, theatre nights,
bowling, boat cruises, camping, dinners, or anything else you want to do, the
list goes on and on; whatever you can imagine.
Or, you can just come out and help out at an event.
We are always looking forward to seeing new people volunteer.

The Chinese hot pot is a broth fondue: there will be broths with different flavors where you will cook noodles, seafood,
beef balls, shrimp balls, thin sliced beef, and vegetables. Once the food items are cooked, you scoop them from the
broth, dip them in a tasty sauce and enjoy. It is a very social meal so conversations will flow, that is of course if you

outdoor ice rink, games room in lodge (pool/ping pong), pub with pool table & fireplace, excellent restaurant, groomed
X-country ski trails, great downhill runs, snow-shoeing trails.
This annual ski trip is always a huge success. Let’s face it: it’s a great value for the price! Manning Park is close to the
lower mainland and it offers a variety of activities for all fitness levels. Not only are there are over 20 km of professionally
groomed Nordic ski trails, and there are lots of snowshoe trails.
We have members in our group that choose to downhill ski as well as snowboard. The
alpine terrain is 22% green, 56% blue, and 22% black. There is a 2500-foot long snowboard park, 7 gladed areas, and one run that is 8 km long. On Saturday night, we’ll fill our
hot chocolate mugs and head out with our ice skates for some antics on the outdoor ice
skating rink. After that, there’s fun and games around the fire pit and back at the chalets.
The club has reserved one chalet this year with two bedrooms accommodating a maximum of 6 guests per bedroom. All the bedding and towels are provided. The centre section in the chalet has a full kitchen and living room area. The lodge amenities are just a
two minute walk away.
Plan to come this year! Book your time off work now and sign up early! Assistance with
carpooling will be arranged.

REPORTS ON RECENT ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS
SUPERMOON KAYAK AND PUB
The September 27 Supermoon Lunar Eclipse
at Rocky Point was amazing! The weather
was absolutely perfect for late September and
it was sunny and warm!
A total of 25 people showed up and a clear
sky meant that all of us saw the red moon as it
eclipsed before our eyes! It was something to
see, although it took us awhile to locate it! It
was very, very faint; then we watched it get
darker and darker red.
We won’t see it again until 2033! There were 6
really nice not-yet-Inside-Edge-members who
also joined us. Some of the group had happy
hour prior to kayaking, others went for a
post-kayak drink at the Boathouse, and
someone headed to a night flight! Leaving the
area we observed the moon slowly transform
as the bright white moved across the moon
and the red slowly disappeared leaving a huge
supermoon in its place.
