ACCADEMIA AND MEDICI CHAPELS TOUR
FL O R EN C E
TO U R S
We begin our tour by walking through the historic center to see and feel its rich history. Our expert guide will take us to the Fine Arts Academy to see the jewel of the Florentine Renaissance-Michelangelo’s incredible statue of “The David,” carved between 1501 and 1504. The
Medici Chapels form part of the monumental complex of San Lorenzo in Florence, whose building history lasts from the first years of the
15th Century until the early 17th Century. Cardinal Giulio de’ Medici, future Pope Clement VII, wished to erect a mausoleum for certain
members of his family and the Medici Chapels became their mausoleum up until the time of the extinction of their family line. The architecture was complete by 1524 and Michelangelo continued to work on the sculpture of the sarcophagi until 1533.
ACCADEMIA AND MEDICI CHAPELS TOUR
An hour’s leisurely drive takes you to Pisa, the historical medieval university town situated on the Arno River. Upon arrival, guides will take the group on a walking tour through the
city. Begin with the Square of Miracles to see the unique and famous Leaning Tower, followed by the 11th Century Cathedral, renowned for its pulpit and paintings, and the Baptistery
with its famous organ and incredible acoustics. The adventure then continues to Lucca, approximately twenty-five minutes away from Pisa for a truly unforgettable experience for the
adventurous and experienced biker. Surrounded by its impressive city walls, Lucca is a charming small town in Tuscany which was colonized by the Romans in the 2nd Century AD.
The tour will consist of a pleasant walk through the historical center, with time to admire its rich heritage of churches, palaces, squares and streets which are unscathed by contemporary developments. Soon after, we will head to the bicycle store where we will be equipped with our very own bike and safety helmet. This charming Tuscan town will entice guests
with its winding corridors, hidden churches, medieval storefronts and centennial trees. Lucca’s famous 15th Century walls enclose a place that can be wandered or pedaled with ease,
and yet still remains full of secrets just waiting to be discovered! Time will also be provided near the end of the trip to explore the city at leisure before returning to Florence by coach.
Prices: Based on 20 guests including transportation, lunch, guides, bikes and transportation – $250 per person. Based on 10 guests - $425 per person.
Price without bikes: TBD
