INSTRUCTIONS AND TIPS FOR VIDEO-MAKING
PURPOSE STATEMENT
These guidelines are intended to provide tips and instructions on how to create an effective
pitch video for the Buc Days Ideas Challenge.
VIDEO CRITERIA
• 2-minute long video (videos over 2 minutes will be disqualified)
• Present a concise and compelling story to effectively communicate your ideas and the value
it creates for users.
• Information provided in your online application should be consistent with the pitch video.
HOW TO TELL A COMPELLING STORY
Walking the audience through each of these puzzle pieces will effectively convey a strong
message

TIPS YOU CANNOT MISS!
• Have a descriptive title to attract the audience from the first view.
• Be clear and concise with your messages.
• Don’t go overboard with providing unnecessary technological information.
• Do a test recording to make sure we can hear you clearly. Background noises will be
distraction.
• Be creative and dynamic! We do not ask for special, high-tech effects but we do not want
to be bored!
• Visual aids work well for demonstration.
• Prepare your script carefully. Making 1 or 2 sentences for each topic would suffice.
• Practice your script. Do not give the audience the feeling that you are reading it!
• Time your pitch. Practice makes perfect!

1. If you are recording with a mobile device, make sure to shoot horizontally
2. You can use free video editing software to enhance your video

3. If you would like to add background music to your video, you could download a royalty
free track from the following database: http://freemusicarchive.org/search/
4. If possible export your video with dimensions:
• HD 1080P (1920 x 1080) or HD 720P (1280 x 720)
5. Submit your video via the online application video link.
There are also some video editing applications available for iPhone and Android that you
may find of value. We highly encourage you to review these options to decide which one is
best suited for your video.
