Winter Driving---Winter Driving!
Tune it up! Before it gets cold, check or have the
following checked:
• Cooling System: Flush & protect the radiator
and engine to well below zero.
• Heater, Defroster & Wipers: These are for comfort as well as safety. Check and repair before it
gets cold.
• Fuel System: Replace fuel and air filters. Keep
water out of the system by using additives and
by maintaining a full tank of gas.
• Oil Level: If necessary, replace existing oil with
a winter grade oil or SAE 10w/30 weight variety.
• Battery & Ignition System: Should be in top
condition with clean battery terminals. Minor
deficiencies such as old, worn parts will be
greatly magnified in cold weather.
• Lights: All lights should be checked. This is a
safety for you and others on the road.
• Exhaust System: Check for leaks and crimped
pipes to eliminate the risk of carbon monoxide
poisoning.
• Tires: You need good tread. All season radials on a front wheel drive passenger vehicle are
adequate, as are snow tires on most rear wheel
drives.
• Brakes: Check wear and fluid level
• Keep your car’s windows, mirrors and lights
clear of snow and ice.
• Equip your vehicle with an emergency travel kit.
At 40 miles per hour, a car that takes 110 feet to stop
on dry pavement will take 200 feet to stop in the rain,
350 feet in gravel and 770 feet on ice. Driving is a
different game when road conditions change. Most
deadly accidents happen when there’s snow on the
ground. The statistics show that 75% of fatalities
and injuries occur from ice and snow in vehicle accidents. There are a few items you should keep in
your car at all times during the winter months just in
case you do get stuck in a snowstorm. These items
include water, non-perishable foods like peanut butter and warm clothes like a jacket or a blanket.

ROCKING IN THE ROCKIES
A total of 11 Priority 55 members took off on August 31 to travel through the breathtaking Canadian
Rockies and Glacier National Park. The tour began
in Calgary and then onward to Waterton Lakes National Park. We stopped at Head-Smashed-In Buffalo
Jump, one of the oldest and best preserved buffalo
jumps. The buffalo jump was used for 5,500 years
to kill buffalo by driving them off the 36 foot high
cliff. The Blackfoot drove the buffalo from a grazing
area in the Porcupine Hills to the “drive lanes” which
were lined by hundreds of man made hills, the “buffalo runners” were young men dressed up as coyotes
and wolves and were trained in animal behavior to
guide the buffalo into the drive lanes. Then, at full
gallop, the buffalo would fall from the weight of the
herd pressing behind them, breaking their legs and
rendering them immobile. The buffalo were then
processed for food, shelter, tools and other needs of
the Blackfoot.
From Waterton we briefly stepped back over to the
states to visit Glacier National Park where we enjoyed a drive across the “Going to the Sun Road”
aboard the famous Jammer cars, built in the 1930s.
When our driver would stop the car she would yell
“gophers up” which meant we could stand up and
pop our heads up through the top of the car to get
a better view of the area that she was talking about.
The next day took us to Banff where we stayed at the
Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, known as the “Castle
in the Mountains”. While we were in Banff we took
a gondola ride to the summit of Sulphur Mountain
where we had breakfast and had an amazing view
of the town and valley below. Then onward to visit
the shores of the famous turquoise blue lake that is
known as Chateau Lake Louise.
Our journey continued on with a ride across the glacier ice and a stop at the Columbia Icefield where
we were able to taste the cool refreshing glacier water. Then we left the wonders of the Rockies for the
prairies of Alberta in route to the Kananaskis Valley.
The next stop was at a local ranch to see the horses,
enjoy a wagon ride and a traditional Albertan barbeque. After we got done eating we were given a
line dance lesson where we could shake off a few
pounds of all the fantastic food we had eaten along
the way. On our way back to Calgary, we said good
bye to Canada, leaving and going home with many
pleasant memories of the people and wonders we all
had seen.
had seen.

CD Investment Alternatives
During the past several years, savings rates at
all Financial Institutions have dropped to historically
low rates due to market conditions and the actions
of the Federal Reserve. The Fed has committed to
keeping interest rates low for the foreseeable future
as it seeks to help the economy grow and drive down
unemployment.
This policy has created a challenging environment for customers with traditional Financial
Institution products (CD’s, Savings Accounts, etc.).
We recommend you speak with Sheri Winter, our
Financial Advisor who works specifically with the
customers of First National Bank. Sheri can review
the many options available to you in non-traditional
bank products to see if there are appropriate products
or investment alternatives that can meet your needs.
As a reminder traditional CD’s are insured by the
FDIC and offer a fixed rate of return, whereas both
the principal and yield of investment securities will
fluctuate with changes in market conditions.
It is our goal to meet your financial needs by
offering a variety of products and solutions.
To contact Sheri Winter, please call (218) 547-1160
to set up an appointment or discuss any questions
you may have.

A Childs Perspective
After putting her grandchildren to bed, a grandmother changed into old slacks and a droopy blouse
and proceeded to wash her hair. As she heard the
children getting more and more rambunctious,
her patience grew thin. Finally, she threw a towel
around her head and stormed into their room, putting them back to bed with stern warnings. As she
left the room, she heard the three-year-old say with
a trembling voice, “Who was THAT?”
Priority 55 Annual
Fish Fry
The First National Bank of Walker held their annual
Priority 55 Fish Fry on September 11 with approximately 420 people being served. The event was held
in the below parking area which had been magically
converted to a fine dining area. It was a beautiful fall
evening with great food, great conversation and great
music. The event was catered by Charlie Thompson
with a number of First National Bank of Walker employees serving and waiting on tables. The toe tapping music for the evening was provided by Frankly
Country. It’s hard to believe, but the first fish fry put
on by the bank was held in Walker City Park back in
1990. As they say “We’ve come a long way baby!”
