Le4er from the Execu0ve Director
CASH MOB at Paper Trails!
I learn so much every year from the remarkable speakers at Leadercast. The first
speaker at this year’s event was my favorite, Andy Stanley. His message was about
CLARITY. He said that people value INTEGRITY, but they FOLLOW CLARITY. He asked
“What do you go to work to do?” He said
you need to answer that queson with clarity, convincingly, simply and repeat it regularly. As a leader of the Chamber, I like to be crystal clear about
our goal. The primary goal of the Chamber (although there are
many), quite simply, is to CONNECT our members to help them
succeed. To connect them with each other and beyond. I firmly
believe the best way to connect is to get to know people, which
is why the Chamber produces quality networking events that
bring our members together to connect and get to know each
other. I repeat that all the me.
June 10-11
What’s a cash mob? Cash
Mobs are flash mobs, but
instead of singing and dancing
we spend money as a group!
We target the small, local
businesses that make each
community special, to give the business owners an economic
smulus. We help businesses grow, we meet new people
and we get stuff for ourselves!
But how do you make the most of our networking events? At
Coffee Tea and Contacts in May we held a networking pot luck
at which about 20 a6endees shared their ps and success stories about how to network and connect. Here is what they said:
♦ Go with the intenon of what you want: to collect cards, to
meet a specific person, etc. Have a purpose, don’t just
show up.
♦ Be paent. Get to know a customer’s heart first, get to
know them as a human being. It’s about relaonships.
♦ Talk to those who look uncomfortable, they’ll appreciate it.
Invite people in to your conversaon.
♦ Carry your “rolodex” - now on smart phones. Have list of
your contacts so you can connect someone you meet to
one of YOUR contacts.
♦ You need to network all the me even when you are busy.
Come even when you do not think you need to. It’s about
building relaonships.
♦ If you don’t know what to say – say “hello, how are you?”
♦ Don’t do a hard sell. It turns people off.
♦ If you only know one person there, do not just talk to that
person. Don’t sck to people you know.
♦ Net“work”ing is called that for a reason. It is work. It is not
net“sit” or net“eat.” It’s not easy!
♦ Go into it without expectaons to get business.
♦ Realize that others may also feel the same inmidaon as
you do.
♦ If it feels inmidang to go into room full of people, get
there early so the room fills up around you.
♦ One new member said he doesn’t look for business at
events, he looks for people to hang out with and share his
hobbies, such as cycling (and he found new cycling friends
at the event!). That helps to form relaonships and eventually can bring business.
♦ I think this is the most important p. Ask quesons to get
to know someone. People like it when you take an interest
in them. Quesons lead to mutual connecons and interests that create a bond.
Sincerely,
Liz Manning, Execuve Director

Hi Chamber members, my name
is Jonathan Schauss, MBA, PT,
CSCS, and yes I have a lot of inials a=er my name as a business owner and physical therapist. I joined the Chamber this
past November based on the recommendaon of my business neighbor. I have been greatly impressed with the diversity of the businesses in the Chamber and the excellent high
profile speakers that come to the luncheons to present their
experse.
Due to the vast changes that are occurring in the health care
market place, I joined the Chamber to expand my circles in
the Westshore area. Since my business as a private physical
therapy pracce is established on building personal relaonships and networking, I felt this was a good fit.
As an orthopedic-based physical therapist for the past 24
years, I have worked closely with many physicians and paents from Rocky River. I have developed some lifelong
friendships that expand beyond my clinic walls. My wife,
Heidi, and our three young children ages 12, 7 and 5 live in
Avon Lake, and I have worked in the Westlake area for nearly
15 years. We are a very acve athlec family and I especially
like running with my wife and Masters swimming.
I le= corporate healthcare and opened WellFit Rehabilitaon
& Aquacs, LLC nearly five years ago. I came up with the
name “WellFit” as a way of incorporang wellness, fitness
and a healthy lifestyle. We promote this daily in our clinic by
teaching our paents about the benefits of a heathy lifestyle
as part of their treatment plan. I am here to help change a
person’s life by alleviang their pain and helping them return
to everything from basic daily living acvies all the way to
acve parcipaon in sports. We cherish each one of our
paents as a future friend and not just a number as so many
larger healthcare establishments currently do. We really get
to know our paents and ask what is important to them to
achieve as their goals. We then enjoy treang their friends
and family as they refer to us. Our mo6o: “Returning people back to work, life, and play!”

My name is Barbara Kappus Ward
and I am the owner and sole therapist of Balance Within Yoga and Wellness Studio. I have been
a member of the Rocky River Chamber of Commerce for a
year. Being a part of the Chamber has affirmed my belief in
networking. Throughout my life, the power of communicaon and networking has developed me as the business owner, teacher, wife, mother and friend. A=er years of counseling to children and the geriatric populaon, the path of yoga
was introduced to me eighteen years ago. I discovered that
the science of Yoga communicated to me the importance of
the union of my mind and body in order to heal. Eastern
discipline of movement made a perfect modality to help others in a therapeuc manner.
Balance Within Yoga and Wellness began to evolve as a business in September of 2004. I specialize in small and/or private personalized classes to fit the physical, mental and spiritual needs of students. A student does not have to be flexible physically, but needs to be flexible of the mind and spirit
to be able to heal through my sessions.
The business has been a wonderful entrepreneur opportunity
for my family. My daughters grew up with the moving philosophy and now at age 16 and 17 it is a part of their life. My
husband, Kevin, has always been my business and financial
advisor. Even my 10-year old toy poodle pracces with my
students.
My business has grown through the years providing therapeuc services to many organizaons like The Bridges of Rehabilitaon Services for the Mental and Physically Challenged
in Cleveland, Ohio and Sunrise Senior Living in Rocky River. In
the past, I have taught educaonal workshops for elementary
schools and for the Chautauqua Instuon’s Special Studies
Programs in New York. I enjoyed the two summers working
for the Susan G. Komen Three Day Walk in Cleveland providing the on-stage stretches at the base camp for walkers and
family.
My intenon is to connue to grow my business providing a
network of therapeuc services to the community. Namaste!
