Opening Keynote: Culture Can Sabotage Ethics and Compliance
Sponsored by: Beazley
Your organization’s code of ethics, training and hotline are necessary and relatively
easy to establish and maintain. However, an organization can have all the elements
in place and still have an ethical lapse, the kind that makes headlines. The area too
often missed is the culture -- there are components of culture that sabotage all other
efforts in the areas of ethics and compliance. We will look at cultural factors and
address how to align them with your organization’s code of ethics and training.
18
Sunday
Marianne M. Jennings, Emeritus Professor of Legal and Ethical Studies, has taught at
the WP Carey School of Business, Arizona State University from 1977 through the
present. She has six textbooks and four monographs in circulation in the areas of
business ethics, ethical culture, and legal environment She was director of the Lincoln
Center for Applied Ethics from 1995 to 1999.
Keynote Panel: Preparing for What’s Around the Next Bend
Why does one organization successfully withstand a crisis while another organization,
facing the same calamity, is unable to weather the storm? Hear from the healthcare
risk managers who tackled high-profile cases such as Hurricane Katrina, the Boston
Marathon bombing and the 2014 Ebola outbreak.
The panel, moderated by ASHRM President Ellen Grady Venditti, will share their stories
during the ASHRM Annual Conference Panel Keynote, “Preparing for What’s Around
the Next Bend.” The panel will link successful leadership to the ERM approach and
outline the skills every healthcare risk management professional needs in order to be
successful during their organization’s next crisis.
Panelists:
Theresa Anderson, RN,
Barbara McCarthy, RN, MPH,
CIC, CPHQ, CPHRM, FASHRM
Michelle Hoppes, RN, MS,
AHRMQR, DFASHRM
Ramanathan Raju,
MS, FACHE

Closing Keynote: Helio Castroneves: Racing, Risk and the Rumba
Sponsored: by: RL Solutions
Famed for consistent top performances in the high-risk environment of open wheel auto
racing, legendary Indycar driver Helio Castroneves will share how he mitigates the
risks unique to his craft in a Q&A session with ASHRM President Ellen Grady Venditti.
Ensuring safety and achieving success at top speeds of 235 mph requires the critical
elements of teamwork, planning and passion, much like healthcare risk management.
October
21
Wednesday
Helio Castroneves is the only active driver to have earned the distinction of being
a three-time winner of the Indianapolis 500 and the only race car driver ever to
become a “Dancing with the Stars” Champion.

In the healthcare industry, RISK is everywhere.
It’s not just when providing patient care, when forming an ACO or when
acquiring a new partnership. The Affordable Care Act has created emerging
exposures and unknown risks that are critical to the financial health of
healthcare organizations.
