University of Alcala (UAH)
has a considerable
expertise in Research
activities.
Engineering/Computer Science fields are one
of the most relevant areas.
Electronics Department handles per year
around 25 projects funded by Private
Companies and around 15 funded by
Administrations.
Smart Cities topics have been covered in
different projects in last years.




Goal: Development of an autonomous system to
analyze the state of a parking area (outdoor)
Target: Remote SMART supervision of parking area.
End-Users: Municipalities, Citizens or Companies.


VIPS will provide confidence information (0-100%)
about the occupancy/vacancy for each parking
space analysed.
VIPS should have information about the parking
spaces to be analyzed. This information will be
collected during the installation of the system



Detection and tracking of vehicles is made by
means of a standard videocamera.
Vehicles are monitored to decide if they have
occupied one parking place or instead they
leave the parking place.
Each node has to be installed to provide the
occupancy map of the supervised area, thus
only change in the occupancy of parking
places will be transmitted to a backoffice
server




The backoffice server will provide information
to the customer about free spaces to park.
Tablets/SmartPhones will able to collect this
information through an ad-hoc APP.
The system will update
the state of spaces in
real time.

Working 24h/7days (different light conditions)
Distinguishing between vehicles and people,
buggies or bikes.
Initial calibration stage for each area to cover.
Possibility to work more than 1 camera to
cover large areas.
Preserving regulations about collected data
 autonomous system (SMART Camera)

Tentative end-users:
 Municipalities: Supervision parking area
 Companies: Optimum use of parking area
(e.g. Supermarkets, Shopping Center,
Factories, …)
 Citizen: Minimum time to search a place to
park


Fist Stage: Algorithm to detect and classify park
spaces using videostreaming from IP cameras

Second Stage: Setting up the Smart camera
Third Stage: Multiple cameras system (in
case)

Fourth Stage: Backoffice Server

Fith Stage: Human Machine Interface (APP)

We believe in this idea as an standalone
Project or part of a bigger Project.
In both cases, National Calls are not very
suitable for this kind of projects.
Main efforts should do in European Calls
