Ebisu (a front page picture)
Ebisu is one of the Japanese Seven Gods Fortune
(Shichifuku-jin). Saga city has over 400 Ebisu stone
statues that are known, which is the largest number in
Japan. Saga residents love Ebisu as they believe that
Ebisu gives good fortune. You will often hear people
call them “Ebisu-san” or “Ebesu-san” in a friendly
manner. Why don’t you have a stroll in the city and
meet your favorite Ebisu-san? They will make your life
in Saga full of happiness and bring you good fortune!

SAGA AND THE UNIVERSITY
Saga Prefecture is in northwest Kyushu. Since ancient times,
people in Saga have been enjoying exchanges of people, ideas,
technologies and goods with China, Korea, and Southeast Asia
because of this geographical advantage.
Saga extends from the Genkai Sea in the north to the Ariake
Sea in the south. The Sefuri Mountain Range runs east-west
and defines the northern edge of the vast Saga Plains, located
at the center of the prefecture.
Living in Saga, students can enjoy the stunning beauty
of nature and the four seasons. Residents of Saga offer
international students a warm welcome and invitations to
numerous local activities and events throughout the year.
Fukuoka (pop. 1.5 million), the biggest city in Kyushu, is a halfhour from Saga by train. Students can enjoy its dynamic and
cosmopolitan atmosphere on weekends.
Saga University was formed by the integration of the former
Saga University and Saga Medical School. The university
is undertaking various kinds of projects aiming to be the
center of knowledge in Asia and appealing to a broad range
of students, including those from abroad. We promote an
attractive campus life with strong academic support and career
education.
Saga University also promotes world-class research projects
and has unique research facilities that address crucial global
issues such as environmental and energy problems. The
Institute of Lowland and Marine Research, the Marine and
Highland Bioscience Center, the Ocean Thermal Energy
Conversion Laboratory and the Kyushu Synchrotron Light
Research Center are several of Saga’s research facilities. Saga
University endeavors to be a university that has roots in the
community, allowing students and faculty to discover and
solve various problems in close cooperation with local and

OVERVIEW OF SPACE
SPACE (Saga University Program for Academic Exchange) is a
special program designed for international students from
affiliated universities around the world. It offers a unique
curriculum of Japanese language classes and courses in the
students’ major in English and Japanese. Participating
students deepen their knowledge and understanding not only
of their major field of study, but also of Japanese society and
people, through academic work and meaningful interactions
with Japanese students and the local people.
TWO TYPES OF ACADEMIC PRGRAMS
Students choose either the “SPACE-E” or “SPACE-J” program,
depending on the student’s aim of study in Japan and their
preference for language in which to study. We recommend that
you choose SPACE-J if you already have high Japanese
language proficiency and have passed the Level 2 or higher
JLPT.
SPACE-E
Courses are taught in English. This program
is for only undergraduate students.
SPACE-J
Students register in regular courses taught in
Japanese. Both undergraduate and graduate
students can participate.
ELIGIBILITY
Students who meet the following conditions are eligible to
apply.
1. The applicants must be enrolled in full-time degree
programs at overseas universities that have concluded a
student exchange agreement or memorandum of student
exchange with Saga University or are in the process of
concluding such.
2. The student must be enrolled as a full-time student at the
home institution throughout the period of study at Saga
University.
3. An applicant for SPACE-E must be an undergraduate student
who has completed at least two years of study at the
home institution.
4. An applicant for SPACE-J must have completed at least one
year of study at the home institution and be enrolled in
either an undergraduate or graduate (Master’s) program at
one of our partner institutions.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS
SPACE requires exchange students to be proficient in either
English or Japanese.
SPACE-E: You must submit your TOEFL or IELTS score.
SPACE-J: JLPT N2 or higher. If you are a graduate student,
please contact us first.
*1: For a student who is unable to take the JLTP test, SPACE
will consider scores in the Japanese language section of the
Examination for Japanese University Admission for
International Students (日本留学試験, EJU). Please contact our
office if you have taken this examination.
* 2: All SPACE-J students will take a placement test after
arrival. If the student’s Japanese language proficiency is
evaluated as at an “intermediate” level, he or she must take in
the Bridging Course which provides intensive Japanese
language education. At the end of the first semester, all
students in the Bridging Course will take a test to determine
whether they have obtained sufficient Japanese proficiency to
register for regular courses.

ACADEM IC PROGRAM AND CREDIT S
The SPACE program has a flexible curriculum in which
exchange students fulfill their aims by taking courses from
their major field of study while learning Japanese language and
culture. The minimum coursework requirement for exchange
students is 12 credits per semester, or 24 credits per year. At
the end of the exchange period, those students who have
fulfilled the requirements will receive a certificate of
completion from Saga University. We will report the number of
the credits that each student has earned to the international
affairs division or the equivalent of the home university at the
end of each semester. SPACE students who have earned credits
are provided with an official academic transcript from Saga
University. The student’s home institution may determine
whether to grant the credits based on this transcript.

EXCHANGE PROGRAM CONDUCTED IN ENGLISH
ACADEMIC PROGRAM
Japanese Language Level Intermediate I
SPACE-E students are able to register in courses throughout
the university after consulting and obtaining permission from
their academic advisor and the course instructor. Students in
the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Faculty of
Agriculture will be required to conduct “guided independent
study” as a part of their study at Saga University. Their
supervisor will provide guidance at the beginning of the period
and necessary advice and assistance throughout the program.
Designed for students understanding beginning-level
Japanese and who have started studying intermediate level
Japanese or who have successfully completed JLL2 at Saga
University. The aim of this course is for students to actively use
beginning-level Japanese through listening, speaking, reading
and writing activities, and to learn intermediate-level grammar
items and expressions.
FIELD WORK ON JAPANESE AFFAIRS
Japanese Language Level Intermediate II
(Compulsory; Fall and Spring; 2 credits per
semester)
The purpose of this course is to know and experience Japanese/
Saga affairs, through 1) attendance at lectures and discussions,
2) interview-based research projects on Japan or the Japanese
people and 3) field trips to see areas in Saga or attend local
events.
JAPANESE LANGUAGE COURSES
Saga University offers Japanese courses at six levels from
beginning to advance. Students will take a placement test after
their arrival and will be placed according to their language
levels. The program offers flexibility and choice, enabling
students to progress from basic daily life skills in the lower
levels through to academic skills in the more advanced levels.
Japanese Language Level Beginner I
Designed for students who have little or no knowledge of
Japanese. The purpose of this level is to acquire the first half of
basic Japanese grammar enabling students to be proficient in
speaking, writing, listening, and reading. This level focuses on
enhancing oral proficiency, including listening skills. Students
will also learn Japanese characters: Hiragana, Katakana, and
approximately 120 Kanji. Successful students will achieve
a proficiency level equivalent to level N5 of the Japanese
Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).
Japanese Language Level Beginner II
Designed for students who have basic knowledge of Japanese
or who have successfully finished JLL1 at Saga University.
The purpose of this level is to acquire the second half of
basic Japanese grammar enabling students to be proficient
in speaking, writing, listening, and reading. It focuses on
developing more intricate parts of oral proficiency. Students
at this level will learn approximately 300 Kanji. Successful
students will achieve the proficiency level equivalent to JLPT
level N4.

Designed for students who can comprehend Japanese in
everyday situations or who have successfully completed JLL3
at Saga University. This level aims to enable students to speak,
write, comprehend, and read Japanese on personal interest
topics and master the grammar and expressions/words at
the intermediate level. Students practice basic preparatory
academic skills in Japanese.
Japanese Language Level Advanced I
Designed for students who are able to understand/discuss
concrete academic topics of interest or who have successfully
completed JLL4 at Saga University. At this level, students will
learn fundamental skills of academic Japanese and develop
enhanced comprehensive proficiency in the Japanese
language. This level focuses especially on understanding
logical structure in reading and writing. Students will also
develop their aural and oral skills through practical activities
and tasks.
Japanese Language Level Advanced II
Designed for students who have already reached basic fluency
level of Japanese or who have successfully completed JLL5 at
Saga University.
Academic Japanese Courses
Students who have Japanese proficiency of Intermediate I or
higher can also register for Academic Japanese Courses .

COURSES IN THE STUDENT’S MAJOR
SPACE-J students can select courses in the student’s major area
of study with guidance of the academic advisors. Please refer to
the following website for searching possible courses in your major.
Students who want to study in the field of humanities and social
science don’t have to choose any faculties to study in. After
reading your essay, we’ll decide which faculty you study at.
FACULTY OF EDUCATION
Creating WEB Pages on Japan (Fall; 2 credits)
The objective of this course is for students to learn HTML
(Hypertext Markup Language) and to create their own WEB
pages featuring Japanese culture and people and their
students’ experiences in Japan.
Modern Trends in Environment Conservation in
Japan̶Technology, Life Style, etc. (Fall; 2 credits)
The course will include lectures and discussions on
environmental conservation in Japan. The topics are 1) its
history, 2) the legal system, 3) activities involving the “three
r's” (to realize a recycling-oriented society) and 4) the healthcare system. During the semester, the students participate in
two day-trips in the field to observe a waste processing facility,
a waste disposal plant, new environmental safeguards or the
like.
Developing WEB Pages on Japan (Spring; 2 credits)
The objective of this course is for students to learn HTML
(HyperText Markup Language) and to develop Web pages
featuring Japanese culture or people and their experiences as
students in Japan.
Field methods in Linguistics (Spring; 2 credits)
The aim of this course is for each student to be able to analyze
an indigenous foreign language the student has not known,
eliciting linguistic data from an informant of the language.
An Introduction to Second Language
Acquisition and Bilingualism (Spring; 2 credits)
This course is designed to introduce students to key issues
surrounding second language acquisition and bilingualism,
and also to provide rudimentary training in social science
research methods. In so doing, we will reflect upon our own
first and second language learning experiences, whilst also
comparing and contrasting language pedagogy across
countries. We will then design and carry out a mini project in
the latter half of the course, addressing the research
questions we will have specified ourselves within a given
topic
FACULTY OF ART AND REGIONAL DESIGN
Japan & Southeast Asia in the Colonial & Postcolonial
World (Fall; 2 credits)
Even in the current post-Cold War era, the relationship
between Japan and Southeast Asia is still influenced by various
historical aspects of their prewar and wartime relationships.
This course gives a historical overview of the political,
economic and cultural exchanges between Japan and Southeast
Asia. Kyushu's unique role in the Japanese "southward advance
movement" of the prewar period will be also discussed in the
lecture.
Public Speaking (Fall; 1 credit)
Through reading-based discussion, we will explore the theme
of study abroad by connecting interviews with students who
have studied abroad with Hofstede’s taxonomy of values.
This course will help you reflect on your own values with
reference to study abroad developing your intercultural
communicative competence in the process.
English Thesis Writing (Spring; 1 credit)
Thesis writing skills will be developed through experiential
learning in the form of a content-based intercultural
project leading to the production of a mini-thesis.
FACULTY OF ECONOMICS
Development Economics (Spring; 2 credits)
The main objective of this subject is to provide basic
knowledge of Asia’s development experience. The subject aims
to discuss the theoretical and practical experience of
socioeconomic development for developing countries in Asia
during the post-WWII period. It also expects to discuss
Japan's economic relationship with Asian (regarding import/
export, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Official
Development Assistance (ODA)). Students who register for this
course is required to obtain TOEFL-iBT 61 or above, or IELTS
5.0 or above.
FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING
Introduction to Science and Engineering A (Fall; 2
credits)
This course outlines research topics in each of the seven
divisions of the Faculty of Science and Engineering of Saga
University and gives short lectures on each topic in “omnibus”
style.
Introduction to Science and Engineering B (Spring; 2
credits)
This course outlines research topics (different from those in
A) in each of the seven divisions of the Faculty of Science and
Engineering of Saga University and gives short lectures on
each topic in “omnibus” style.

General Topics on Applied Biological Sciences (Fall;
2 credits)
The general topics and specific research fields regarding
applied biological sciences will be introduced by all of
academic staff in this department (omnibus style).
General Topics on Agricultural and Environmental
Sciences (Spring; 2 credits)
“Department of Environmental Science” in Faculty of
Agriculture has conducted variety of researches concerning the
improvement of environmental quality. The general topics and
specific research fields about agricultural and environmental
sciences will be introduced by all of academic staff in this
department (omnibus style).
Oleo Science (Spring; 2 credits)
The class contains the topics concerning “Oleo Science”, which
is widely used in modern society. Especially, the class focuses
on chemical structures and properties of Oils used in various
fields.
INDEPENDENT STUDIES
(Spring and Fall; each 2 credits)
SPACE provides exchange students an opportunity to conduct
“Independent Studies” with your supervisor. You need to write
a research field and topic and possibly professor’s name on
your application form. Please refer to the following URL to

Independent Study with your supervisor is compulsory. You
need to write a research field and topic and possibly professor’
s name on your application form. You can find the lists of
professors together with their research topics.
Interface Subjects of Cross-Cultural
Interaction
OGE (Organization for General Education) of Saga University
offers courses for Cross-cultural Interaction to international
students together with Japanese students. International
students should be aware that while they are encouraged
to take these courses, the number of available class slots might
differ among the classes offered. For example, some courses
allow for one-half of the total number of students
to be international students with the other half consisting
of Japanese students. Other courses conducted in English
however will accept only a limited number of international
students who are expected to be “English” mentors and help
lead the class. How international students enroll and
participate in courses vary from course to course.

Majors: Biology and
Japanese
My independent study is in the agriculture
department at Saga University. My science major in
the U.S. is biology, but my real love is plants, so it
was only natural to choose to be part of the
agriculture department when I entered Saga. My
independent study is focused on the study of
eggplant cultivation and cross-breeding between
wild and cultivated genotypes. By selectively
combining the genotypes of the wild and cultivated
varieties, we can retain the beneficial aspects of the
cultivar varieties (like bigger or tastier eggplants)
with the antiviral properties the wild eggplants
possess.
I have many “senpai” and “kouhai,” seniors and
juniors studying eggplant as well. They are extremely
friendly and helpful during both lab and non-lab hours.
They make me feel quite welcome to be studying
alongside them here in Saga. In order to keep the
plants in the greenhouse growing well, we do
maintenance tasks together, like fertilizing the
eggplants and pulling weeds as part of our lab duties.
I’ve learned that even this is fun!
Saga’s University’s unique combination of science
classes, independent scientific research, and language
courses are invaluable to someone like me who has
many interests, and especially helpful for a double
major.

SPACE-J, Exchange Program conducted in Japanese
佐賀大学交換留学プログラムー日本語による教育プログラム
SPACEは佐賀大学の協定校に所属する学生を対象としたプログ
ラムです。授業は日本語もしくは英語で開講されます。日本語
や日本社会についての授業と、個々の学生の専攻に応じた授業
を履修できるユニークなカリキュラムです。プログラムに参加
する学生は、佐賀大学での学習や研究を通じて、また日本人学
生や佐賀の地域の人々とのふれあいを通じて、日本社会やひと
びとについて知識や理解を深めることができます。
プログラムのタイプについて
学習の目的と学習の際に使用する言語により、「SPACE-E」か
「SPACE-J」のいずれかを選びます。すでに日本語能力試験
（JLPT）N2を取得している人は、SPACE-Jに参加することを
勧めます。
◆ SPACE-E…主に英語で実施されるコースで、学部生のみ
が対象
◆ SPACE-J…日本語で実施されるコースで、学部生及び修
士課程の大学院生が対象
以下 SPACE-J についての説明です。
応募資格
SPACEプログラムに応募する学生は、以下の条件を満たすこと
が必要です。
1) 身分
・佐賀大学と学生交流協定を締結しているもしくは締結予定の
海外の大学に在籍する正規学生であること。
・佐賀大学にいる期間を通じて、出身大学において正規生とし
て在籍していること。
・学部生もしくは大学院生（修士課程）であること。ただし学
部生の場合、出身大学で少なくとも１年を修了していること。
2) 言語能力
SPACE-JではJLPT N2以上が求められます。
大学院生の場合は、佐賀大学国際交流推進センターへ事前にお
問い合わせください。
*日本語能力試験（JLPT）が受けられない場合は、日本留学試験
（EJU）の日本語セクションの結果を考慮します。EJUの結果を
語学力証明としたい場合は、国際交流推進センターへお問い合
わせください。

プログラムと単位
SPACE-Jプログラムは、日本語や日本文化を学びながら専門科
目も履修できるプログラムです。SPACE-Jプログラムの学生
は、１学期あたり最低12単位を取得することが求められます。
条件を満たした学生には、修了時に佐賀大学から修了証が授与
されます。また、佐賀大学から成績証明書が発行されますの
で、所属大学での単位認定は、この成績証明書に基づき、所属
大学の評価基準と手続によって行ってください。なお、各学期
において取得した単位数は、所属大学に報告されます。
SPACE-Jプログラムのカリキュラム
SPACE-Jプログラムにはブリッジコースとレギュラーコースがあ
ります。SPACE-Jプログラムの学生は渡日後、日本語プレースメ
ントテストを受けます。その結果により、日本語能力が中級レベ
ルと判断された場合は、日本語科目を中心に履修するブリッジ
コースに参加します。上級レベルと判断された場合は、日本語に
よる専門科目を履修できるレギュラーコースに参加します。応募
時点ですでにJLPTのN1を取得している学生、または応募時点で
はJLPTのN2であったが、留学開始までにN1を取得した学生は、
レギュラーコースに参加します。

◆ブリッジコース
日本語で専門科目を履修するために必要な高度な日本語能力を
養うことを目指します。プレースメントテストの結果、日本語
能力が中級Ｉレベルと判断された場合は、日本事情研修（２単
位）以外は日本語科目を履修します。また、中級Ⅱレベルと判
断された場合は、日本事情研修以外に日本語科目を６単位以上
履修することが求められますが、専門科目も４単位まで履修が
認められます。ブリッジコースに参加する学生は、１学期目終
了後に日本語のテストを受け、十分に語学力が向上したことが
確認された場合、２学期目はレギュラーコースに参加すること
ができます。十分に日本語能力が伸びていないと判断された場
合は、２学期目もブリッジコースに参加しなければならない可
能性があります。
◆レギュラーコース
日本事情研修（２単位）は必修ですが、それ以外は各学生の専
門に応じた授業を履修することができます。専門科目の履修に
ついては、プログラムコーディネーターや指導教員と相談を
し、授業を提供する教員の許可を得た上で履修登録を行いま
す。また、さらに高度な日本語能力を養いたい学生は、レベル
に応じて上級Ⅰレベルか上級Ⅱレベルの日本語科目を履修する
こともできます。
SPACE-J に参加する大学院生の履修
大学院修士課程の学生もSPACE-Jプログラムに参加することが

現代日本社会や佐賀地域に関する知識や理解を深めるために、

ケート、参与観察などの様々な方法によって調査を行い、発表
を行ないます。

異文化交流科目
佐賀大学の日本人学生や、他の留学生と共に履修する科目です。
討論や調査などの授業活動を通じて、異文化交流について学び
ます。
日本語科目
佐賀大学は、日本語科目を提供しており、初級から上級まで6
つのレベルがあります。学生は来日後にプレースメントテスト
を受け、その結果により適切なレベルに分けられます。それぞ
れのレベルに応じて日本での生活や佐賀大学での勉学活動に必
要な日本語を学習することができます。
日本語中級 I
プレースメントテストの結果、日本語能力が中級Iと判断され
た学生が履修する日本語レベルです。このレベルでは、聞く、
話す、読む、書く活動の中で、初級で学習した文法を使えるよ
うになること、中級の文法や表現を学ぶことを目指します。
日本語中級 II
プレースメントテストの結果、日本語能力が中級と判断された
学生、あるいは前学期に日本語中級Iを修了した学生が履修で
きるレベルです。このレベルでは、関心のあるトピックについ
て日本語で聞き、発話し、書けるようになることを目指しま
す。また日本語によるアカデミックスキルを身につけるため
の学習も行います。
日本語上級 I
専門科目を日本語で履修するために必要な日本語運用能力を身
につけていると判断された場合でも、各自の留学目的や学習計
画に応じて、日本語の科目を履修できます。このレベルの科目
を履修するためには、日本語中級II を佐賀大学で修了するか、
あるいはプレースメントテストで上級Iの判定を受ける必要が
あります。このレベルは日本語による基本的なアカデミックス
キルを身につけるとともに、総合的な日本語能力の強化を目指
します。特に読解や作文においては、論理的に構造を理解す
ることに重点を置きます。また学生は様々な活動や課題に従
事し、日本語によるコミュニケーション能力を実践的に高め
ます。
日本語上級 II
このレベルはすでに日本語を自由に使えるレベルに達している
学生を対象としています。
アカデミック・ジャパニーズ
中級I以上と判断された学生は、アカデミック・ジャパニーズ
の授業も履修することができます。

engage in a variety of other activities.

KARATE
ADAPTED SPORTS CLUB
We’re a small group of just three second-year students, three
first-years and one foreign student. We practice four times a
week, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. If you’
re interested, please stop by during one of our practices on the
second floor of the Sports Center.
Adapted sports are those that everyone, from young children
to senior citizens, not to mention those with physical
disabilities, can participate in. The activities of the society
mainly revolve around wheelchair twin basketball and the
provision of services as escort runners for visually impaired
individuals. Circle members currently total 27, consisting of
five first-year students, ten second-years, eight third-years and
four fourth-years. The wheelchair twin basketball sessions take
place weekly.

hospital in the event of a health problem. Tutors can also
assist SPACE students with academic issues. Cultivating
relationships with Japanese students is a good opportunity for
you to brush up your Japanese skills and to learn of the real
lives of Japanese students.

National Health Insurance
Japanese law requires that international students
on college student visas enroll in the national health
insurance. Students enrolled in this insurance need to
pay only the 30% deductible for visits to the doctor or
hospital, in addition to the annual 20,000-yen premium.

康保険への加入を求めています。国民健康保険に加入し
た学生は、年間２万円の保険料を支払うだけで、病院に

University Accommodations for International Students are a　3-minute walk from campus. Each room has kitchen, bathroom
and toilet. It comes furnished with a bed, a closet, a bookshelf,

PRIVATE ACCOMMODATIONS
民間アパート
Most SPACE-E students live in private apartments. For an
applicant in one room with kitchen, bath and toilet, and airconditioner, apartments in the local area cost ¥25,000
to ¥30,000 for monthly rent. Saga University introduces choices
for private accommodation, and these are usually furnished.
For those who choose a furnished room, it is particularly easy
to start new life in Saga. For the first month, you have to pay a
deposit in addition to one month of rent. The initial costs come
to roughly ¥50,000~¥70,000.
多くのSPACEの学生が、民間のアパートに住んでいます。台所、お風
呂、トイレ、エアコンが付いていて、一か月の家賃は約２万５千円～

campus, everything you need for everyday life is within reach.
A short distance to the east, you will find a prefectural library,
an art museum and other museums and establishments, all of
which make the culture of Saga accessible. The ruins of Saga
Castle, which were recently renovated, are expected to become
a prefectural focal point for historical and cultural exchanges.

It is definitely an exciting and
exceptional opportunity to study abroad if one can harvest
more than one’s expectation. To that extent, the life in Saga
city has helped me to explore and absorb Japanese culture
immediately and also helped to broaden my horizons.
Besides, being an exchange student, mixing with different
people from backgrounds and nationalities, especially with
locals, far outweighed spending a year in a book.

Like all locals, I was free to bike to every corner of Saga
city. Fortunately I also traveled around to many of the
amazing places within Kyushu Island. There is so much
to offer foreign students and tourists in terms of tourist
attractions, breathtaking scenery, historic places, and
amazing festivals. I went to various hot springs, many
shrines, castles, fireworks, and festivals such as the Ceramic
festival in Arita, Kashima’s Gatalympics Mud festival,
Yamakasa festival, the Sunflower festival, the Balloon
festival, and the Karatsu Kunchi festival. Also, not only
has indulging myself with all sorts of local delicacies like
Shishirian rice, Saga beef (Saga-gyu), Ureshino green tea,
and the many confectionaries been an additional pleasure,
but it is also an essential part of traveling in different
country.
Looking back over my time in Saga city, I have had such
a blissful time here so far and now I’m very much looking
forward to the rest of this year.
JASSO SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The JASSO scholarship program for short-term exchange
students is supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture,
Sports, Science and Technology in order to expand and
promote exchange between Japanese and foreign universities
and students. Every year Saga University applies for JASSO
Scholarship, but JASSO decides whether it grants us the
scholarship and numbers of scholarships. The Short-Term
Student Exchange Program Scholarship is as follows:
ELIGIBILITY
1.Students must be enrolled in a university that has already
or is planning to conclude a Student Exchange Agreement
or Memorandum with Saga University.
• The student shall not hold Japanese citizenship.
• The student who demonstrate excellent academic and
personal records at their home university.
• The student has strong motivation as well as clear goals,
and is likely to benefit from studying in Japan.
• The student does not otherwise have the financial means to
study in Japan.
JASSO 奨学金プログラム
SPACEプログラムは、JASSO奨学金を申請しています。この奨
学金は、日本と海外の大学及び学生の交流推進のためのもの
で、文部科学省の援助を受けています。海外留学支援制度（協

佐賀大学附属図書館
総合情報基盤センター
The University Library collects and offers
a wide variety of books, magazines,
audio-visual materials, online databases
and other materials, in order to assist
students with their studies and
researchers with their educational
and research activities. The library has
in its possession 600,000 books and
9,500 magazine titles, spanning the
humanities, social sciences and natural
sciences. The main library is equipped
with 549 reading seats, group study
rooms, a multimedia room, an audio
room and a browsing corner to facilitate
use of the facility and provide students
with a comfortable space that is
conducive to studying.
佐賀大学図書館は、学生の勉学や研究者
の研究・教育活動を支援するために、書籍、
雑誌、視聴覚資料、オンラインデータベー
スやその他の多種多様な資料を収集し、
提供しています。
蔵書は人文科学、社会科学、自然科学の
全分野にわたり図書約 60 万冊、雑誌約
9,500 種類を所蔵しています。附属図書館
本館は、施設の利用を促進し快適な空間
を学生に提供するために、549 の読書席、
グループ学習室、マルチメディアルーム、
オーディオルームやブラウジングコーナー
を備えています。
The Computer and Network Center
is an on-campus academic research
facility, and it provides services relating
to the use of computers and networks
for educational purposes. The center
has 114 terminals in the large computer
lab, 38 terminals in the small lab and
ten terminals in the main hall, for a
total of 217 units. Software packages
for word processing, spreadsheet
creation, calculation and programming,
in addition to e-mail and web search
applications and engines are available
on the PC terminals. These may be used
for lectures, independent study and
other purposes.
総合情報基盤センターは、本学の学術研
究・教育のためのコンピュータとネットワー
クの利用などに係るサービスを行っている
学内共同施設です。大演習室には 114 台、
小演習室には 38 台メインホールには 10
台、合計 217 台の教育システム端末が設
置されています。ワープロ、表計算作成、
計算とプログラミングのためのソフトウェ
ア · パッケージ、それに加えて電子メール
や Web 検索アプリケーションやエンジン
は、PC 端末で利用できます。これらは、
講義、自主研究および他の目的に使用す
ることができます。
Health Care Center
保健管理センター
Saga University has a health care center
to provide for the students’ various
health needs. First-aid treatment,
medical advice and counseling are
provided by health professionals
as needed. At the center, an annual
medical examination is carried out each
April, and special medical examinations
for international students are carried out
in October.
佐賀大学は、学生の多様な健康ニーズに
応えるために佐賀大学保健管理センター
を設置しています。応急処置、医学的なア
ドバイスやカウンセリングは、医療専門家
によって必要に応じて提供されます。セン
ターでは、毎年 4 月に健康診断が行われ、
留学生のための特別な健康診断は、10 月
に実施されています。

大学会館
This space is perfect for conversing,
eating and drinking, or simply for
studying. The University Hall has a
cafeteria, shops, an ATM, the co-op shop
and other services.

Art Museum as New Landmark on Campus　新しいランドマーク、美術館
To commemorate the tenth anniversary of the integration
of the former Saga University and Saga Medical School this year, Saga University
constructed an art museum at the main gate of the campus. It opened in October
2013. Enjoy the stunning collection of artworks of Saga University.
