president of Sears. Influenced by writings of the educator Booker T.
Washington, this Jewish philanthropist joined forces with African-American
communities in the Jim Crow South, during the early part of the 20th

An Irish immigrant lands in 1950s Brooklyn, where she quickly falls into a
