L Voyage on the Seas of Senior Services eadership is a difficult task if the goals and objectives of any group are not carefully defined and followed. Success is achievable only when these pursuits are comprehensible, acceptable, and above all, realistic. In Broward County, we are fortunate to serve as the designated helm of a nonprofit organization that has been, and remains structured by a strong and dedicated Board who are committed toward surviving waves of funding crises, as well as weathering the resulting impact of diminishing shores we can approach for safety and support. Our Staff continues to provide the skills and coordination required to plan the course we must map and sail, yet knows that economic storms continue to threaten the wellbeing of the passengers who depend on our outreach and cargo to arrive at, and maintain a port of entry that is stable and calm. We are advised by a council of visionaries who employ their talents and commitment toward seeking and determining novel routes of pursuit, to fuel our activities with hope and progress, which are imperative to remaining afloat and financially sound. Our Projects strategically ally with each other, and our Helpline, so that no participation is denied to local passengers endeavoring to travel what once was a maze of portals, and now is a clearly defined entrance to the aging services network here, state, and nationwide. Creativity is key to the launching of new ships of endeavor, while at the same time, it provides alternative means to sail through potential, yet too often unpredictable disasters, imposed by nature and/or the fragility of those, who too quickly, surrender to failure, when they are close to the brink of success. The v essel, on w hich we s ail, does no t ma t ter, i f our v oyage t akes humani t y to a des tina tion w here li f e, w i th dig ni t y, is the in f ini te t reas ure tha t il lumina tes the hor izon w i th hope. Edith Lederberg Executive Director 2 Presidential Perspective: Victors Share Symbolic Strengths erving as President of a Couple Celebrate S vivacious and involved Board of Directors is an invigorating and Senior Ceremony exciting experience I have welcomed and thoroughly enjoyed for the past year and a half. Our attendance and accomplishments are evident and applauded by aging advocates here, state, and nationwide. The composition of the Areawide Council is a mixture of professionals, elected officials, and full time volunteers, who loyally attend monthly meetings, serve on a variety of essential committees, attend, as well as support our fundraisers, and tirelessly develop mechanisms to improve the status of life and its living for Older Browardians. We are a winning team because each member has the ability, commitment, and desire to play any position necessary to achieve positive wins for elders. Challenges are a perpetuated presence in our lives, but we are united in determining the optimal game plan to meet obstacles directly, or at a minimum, to consult with Staff, as well as funding sources and project management in order to determine novel strategies or revisit past successes. Areawide Council on Aging Past President and 2002 Hall of Famer Jack Tobin was proud to welcome his wife, Lesley, to the 2008 Senior Hall of Fame Membership. Mr. Tobin served as Master of Ceremonies for the event. Board Members Participate at Lifetime Summit Time is not our greatest ally because every day augments our recognition that unlike having a sense of innings or quarters to achieve a victory, we are deluged by crisis calls and conditions, creating no alternatives, but demanding immediacy in assistance. Too often, our scoreboard reveals losses that might have been avoided, were winning funds available, accessible and accorded. Our County, State, and Nation are bieged by a multitude of onomic, social, and other unprediable ills, but our personal sense is strong that the pions of people, direed toward humanity, will surp the strul for survival, and like Olympians, bearing a torch toward viory, we will stand tall and triumphant, as we succfully answer prayers from those, o are too frail to march in our company, but are well able to witn our journey with hope.
