A scalable print management solution
boosts labor productivity and improves
data security in Coca-Cola HBC
Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company
Serbia, a member of the Coca-Cola
Hellenic Group, is one of the largest
producers of non-alcoholic beverages in
Serbia and a franchised bottler of The
Coca-Cola Company. The company, whose
main activities are production, bottling,
sale and distribution of non-alcoholic
beverages, has been operating in Serbia
since 1997 and it employs over 1, 500
people in three bottling plants and seven
distribution centers. It serves nearly 8
million people in Serbia in the production
of its non-alcoholic beverage brands.
Improve printing efficiency in all areas
Before the introduction of the Canon printing
solution, Coca-Cola HBC Serbia used a partial
solution offered by the competitive provider,
which was leased and partially owned by the
provider. The solution included both desktop
printers and multifunctional departmental
printers. Nevertheless, the solution was not
centralized nor it could be managed with the
existing document output management.
In addition to the fact that printing cost
could not be monitored, security of business
documents was also at risk, as it was not
possible to ensure a proper document output
management. Many different models of
devices caused their IT staff work overload,
and as they collaborated with several
suppliers they were wasting valuable time
along with supplies (toners). Logistically, the
situation was unsustainable.
With this new solution Coca-Cola HBC Serbia
wanted to take a step forward and ensure a
completely centralized solution offered by a
single provider, which would cut workload
in the mentioned areas. “We wanted a costeffective, “turn-key” solution, with help desk
support from the provider, while focused
on our core business,” said Slobodan Božić,
Service Desk Manager in Coca-Cola HBC
Serbia. “The aim was to provide centralized
support to users, print management, and
save in maintenance and support.”
The objective was to choose the bidder would
will be able to provide quality solutions and
prompt response, along with excellent aftersale support. They sought a business partner
who would be project-oriented and conduct
situation and needs assessment in several
different locations.
Several providers placed their bids, including
Canon’s Accredited Solutions Partner
Perihard, who proved to be the most adaptive
to the customizations necessary in fitting
the oranization’s needs, offering high quality
solutions and, certainly not least, matching
a competitive price. Moreover, Perihard was
quite convincing in its project’s approach.
The solution offered by Perihard, which
included the multifunctional devices Canon
imageRUNNER/imageRUNNER ADVANCE/
i-SENSYS and uniFLOW software platform
proved to be the most adaptive to fit all the
needs of the Coca-Cola HBS Serbia staff.
Perihard installed five multifunctional devices
in the pilot phase of the project (Canon
imageRUNNER 3225N, imageRUNNER
ADVANCE C2220L and imageRUNNER
C1028i) in the IT and finance departments.
The goal was to test the printing server in the
context of their business information system
SAP. Specifically, the purchaser sought
registration of printing tasks from the SAP
system, for which special adjustments
were needed. The information system
basically does not disclose the identity
of the user of the printer to the printing
server, and therefore the uniFLOW
printing tracking module cannot attribute
printing costs to certain locations.
“Between 700 and 800 employees use

others, and there are also printing peaks
during reporting periods, making this
integration of strategic importance. It was a
complex part of the implementation, which
we successfully carried out thanks to the
professional support of Perihard and Canon,”
Božić highlighted.
Managed Print Services – Case study
Canon’s optimal solution
The implementation was carried out for a
very short time - 60 multifunctional printers
in Belgrade business premises over one
weekend. The multifunctional printer fleet
was customized to fit the needs of certain
locations in terms of printing workload
and required functions. In total, 72 devices
were installed in Coca-Cola HBC Serbia: 31
black-white imageRUNNER 6750 printers,
19 black-white i-SENSYS MF5940 printers,
11 black-white imageRUNNER 1133 printers,
8 Color imageRUNNER C1028i printers,
as well as one imageRUNNER ADVANCE
C2220L printer, one imageRUNNER 3225
printer and one imageRUNNER C3380
printer. The i-SENSYS devices were chosen
for their robustness, as they would primarily
be used in bottling plants where one printer
is to serve up to 10 people in three shifts.
Initially, 66 printers were installed, but after
optimizing the print fleet, this number rose
to 72 printers. Canon’s partner Perihard held
trainings for staff, practically demonstrated
how the devices work, and delivered separate
trainings in the IT department.
System brings benefits in many areas
New solution for print management made the
uniFLOW printing more transparent for heads
of departments, while the calculation of
printing costs per different printing locations
became simpler and faster despite the
complexity of the system. The functionality
of the Canon MFPs made maximum impact,
directly affecting the labor productivity of the
staff.
Božić estimated that “by having introduced
the My Print Anywhere function, which allows
you to identify users based on the Active
Directory info, we boosted labor productivity
among our staff, who can now obtain
documents at any device on the network
with proper identification at the MFPs, and
at the same time we can provide a higher
level of security with of sensitive data.” Users
can authenticate themselves by using job
codes, however, they often use personal PIN
numbers, which in no way affects the user
experience.
The IT department is also satisfied with
this new solution, as the time for solving
printing issues is substantially reduced.
“Prompt response of our partner is another
added value that we much appreciate, as, for
example, they charge the empty toners within
one hour, and our only concern is paper, as
we do not have to worry about any other
inventory supplies. The support from Canon
and Perihard is excellent, and if a problem
arises, it is resolved quickly and efficiently,”
added Božić, who believes that following the
evaluation phase, the project is going to be
equally successful.
”Financially, the project is cost-effective
and we achieved higher savings when
compared to the previous solution despite a
10% increase in the volume of printing. User
satisfaction has been increased after the trial
period - namely, Canon devices are simple
and intuitive to use”, Božić concluded.
