Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum Birds in Art September 6 – November 16, 2014 Birds in Art Master Wildlife Artist B irds inspire artists worldwide as these avian marvels signal seasonal and environmental change, mesmerize with their flight, dazzle with their colors, and soothe with their songs. Diverse work by 112 artists offers innovative perspectives of birds – preening, resting on unexpected perches, engaging in mischief, and displaying tenderness. The 39th annual exhibition features 126 all-new artworks. Once again, you’re invited to savor artists’ interpretations and discover what inspires you. B arry Van Dusen’s luminous watercolors begin with field work – direct observation and field sketching. Over thirty years, he’s filled more than eighty sketchbooks with drawings of birds and the natural world, which attest to his dual roles as an artist – first and foremost – and as a naturalist. The spontaneous, painterly style of Van Dusen’s watercolors is an intensely personal blend of realism and impressionism.
