The Night Falcon and the Captain Ted are both busy
push boats, moving material barges of either sand or
gravel between Havre de Grace, MD, Woodbridge,
VA, Brooklyn, NY and Seaford, VA. Three strong
factors steered the owners to choose Mitsubishi
engines over two well known brands.
• Mechanical engines that meet EPA tier requirements providing important operational simplicity over electronic engines.
• Lower fuel consumption (35-40% reduction) than other engines will provide major long term reductions in cost of operation.
• The cost of the Mitsubishi engines was very competitive.

The reduction in operating costs is living up to
expectations, with the Mitsubishi engines using
30 fewer gallons per hour than the old engines.
While the old engines were burning 80 GPH, the
new Mitsubishi engines have been consuming just
50 GPH, doing the same work. Additionally, the
new mechanical engines respond very well and
emissions have been reduced by an estimated 90%.
Vulcan Materials plans on adding more of these
engines to their fleet in the future.
