PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Hello Everyone—and welcome to Spring! Last week we said goodbye to Winter with our Carmi Winter
Olympics. Speed skating down the halls of Carmi was one of our many events. We didn’t use skates—but we
did use wool socks! It was a great way to celebrate the hard work that the students have been doing this term.
Report cards will be sent home this Friday. I enjoyed reading all of the report cards. The children have learned
so much this term! Please remember that we dismiss early on March 12th (at 12:00 pm). We have wrapped
up basketball and our students in grades 4 and 5 made us so proud! They are skilled at the game and even more
skilled at good sportsmanship. Thanks so much to Mr. Bailey. Ms. Persson and Ms. Harvie for coaching the boys
and girls. They did great! I’m so proud of them. One last note, please check out our new

REPORT CARDS / EARLY DISMISSAL
Term 2 report cards will be going
home on Friday March 6th. Please
return the signed report card
envelope as soon as possible.
Please contact your child’s teacher if you
wish to set up an appointment with them.
Thursday March 12th is an early dismissal

GRADE 3 SWIM PROGRAM
Our Grade 3 students will be participating in swimming
lessons at the Penticton Community Centre running each
Wednesday for 5 weeks.

We will be sharing a bus with Naramata students. More
information and permission slips to follow.

BASKETBALL
Our Grade 4 and 5
girls and boys basketball teams have finished a very successful
season. Our students
represented our school with exceptional
sportsmanship and team spirit. Congratulations to all the team members for their hard

READY, SET, LEARN!
Thursday April 23rd 2:45 - 3:45
Carmi School will be holding the Ready, Set, Learn Program supported by the Ministry of Education on Thursday April 23rd from 2:45 - 3:45pm. If you have a child
who is 3 or 4 years of age, come join our school staff and
a variety of community partners presenting valuable information. Children will enjoy fun stations throughout

STUDENT TRANSFER REQUESTS
The deadline for students requesting transfers for the September 2015/2016 school year is
4:00 pm, April 15, 2015. Transfer requests received after April 15th may not be
considered until September 2015. Although a sibling’s attendance at a school will be given
priority as per Choice and Flexibility Policy #305, it should not be assumed that the
transfer is approved. A transfer request still needs to be completed and must go through the
transfer process. If you are unsure or require further information, please check with your
child’s school.
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATIONS
School District No. 67 (Okanagan Skaha) - KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Children born in 2010 are eligible to enter kindergarten in September 2015. Parents,
who feel their child is not yet ready for kindergarten, may defer enrollment for one
year. Please contact Wendy Hyer (250) 770-7700 at the School Board Office for information on this. Placement in your neighborhood school kindergarten is based on your address and registration date. The earlier you register, the more likely your child will attend a school close to your home.
Register at your neighborhood school during regular school hours on or after February 1, 2015.
A birth certificate will be required as well as your child’s BC Care Card, parental BC Care Card and proof
of address (i.e. driver’s license, utility bill, lease agreement).

The Penticton Speedway Foundation fundraises year round and
gives over $30,000 annually to local organizations, initiatives, and
families in need in our community. Neil Jamieson of
Underwriters Insurance, and a director of the Penticton
Speedway Foundation, is committed to raising money every year
for local breakfast programs. Thousands of breakfasts are served
each year at our local schools, by volunteers. Kids who eat
breakfast have better concentration during school hours than
kids who skip the morning meal.
Thank you to Mrs. Van Egmond who runs the Breakfast Club every morning at Carmi.
We are so excited, our new PAC kitchen is almost finished!
