MET SYMPOSIUM
International Maritime & Oceans
Education & Training
19th - 20th May 2015
The Symposium addresses the important issue of educating tomorrow’s maritime and ocean
leaders. The maritime industry is challenged by increasing social, technical and ethical demands
for improved effectiveness and efficiency. Operational and environmental issues will have to be
met by a combination of more advanced technologies and better and smarter management. In
addition, the need for better ocean governance is now greater than ever.
It is obvious that the global ocean sustainability goals cannot be met without greatly improved
management and enhanced capacity. The purpose of the WMU Symposium is to discuss the role
of education and training in meeting the need for improved maritime and ocean management in
the next decade.
