AFNA Accounting for Non Accountant
A Center for Entrepreneurship Training and Development in Asia The UP Institute for Small-Scale Industries is a training, research and development institution assisting and promoting the development of small enterprises in the Philippines. The greater part of training resources has been placed on the development of potential and existing entrepreneurs, managers, supervisors, trainers, extension officers, consultants, and other catalysts who will be able to hasten the development process. Pushing beyond national boundaries, the UPISSI has offered its expertise and facilities to other countries similarly engaged in increasing their small enterprise base. Thus, it has emerged as a center for “entrepreneurship training and development” in the region. The UP-ISSI links with private and public institutions here and abroad for two reasons: to draw support for its activities and to share its experiences and knowledge in small enterprise development programs. Prominent among its linkages is the Small Enterprises Research and Development Foundation (SERDEF). If this is so, then accounting must be the pump that controls, measures and distributes it so that the enterprise and all its parts not only survive but flourish. Accounting is defined as the information system that measures, processes and communicates financial information about a business. It provides a vital service “by supplying the information that decision makers need to make reasoned choices among alternative uses of scarce resources…” It is important for every key person of a business to understand and interpret the products of the accounting process known as financial statements. Not all managers and key persons of a business have training in accounting. “Accounting for Non-Accountants (AfNA)” has been designed for all who occupy responsible positions in the business but lack accounting background.
