W
e are so glad that you are with us today! Our
service will be to praise and worship God and to
encourage and uplift us to face another week. We will
sing (Eph. 5:19, Col. 3:16), pray (James 5:15-18), and
partake of the Lord’s Supper to remember our Savior’s
sacrifice on the cross (Acts 20:7, 1 Cor. 11:23-26). We
will also give back a portion of the monetary blessings
that God has granted us so that we can carry out His
work in our community (1 Cor. 16:2, 2 Cor. 9:7).
We will also study a lesson from His Word that will
hopefully be applicable to our daily lives, so that we can
be equipped to handle the pressures of this world and
reach those outside of Christ (2 Tim. 2:15). If you are a
visitor, please fill out the yellow visitor’s card and pass
it to the end of the aisle so it can be collected. You are
truly an honored guest, so please give us an opportunity
to meet you after our services are over! “This is the day
that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!”

Isn’t it Strange?
Isn’t it strange how twenty dollars seems like such a large amount when we
give it at church, but such a small amount when we go shopping?
Isn’t it strange how two hours seems so long when we’re at church, and so
short when we’re at a ball game?
Isn’t it strange that we can’t find a word to say when we’re praying, but we
have no trouble thinking what to talk about with a friend?
Isn’t it strange how difficult and boring we think it is to read one chapter of
the Bible, but how easy it is to read 100 pages of a popular novel?
Isn’t it strange how everyone wants front-row-tickets to concerts or games,
but we do whatever is possible to sit at the last row in church?
Isn’t it strange how we need to know about an event for church at least two
weeks before the day so we can include it in our agenda, but we can adjust it
for other events at the last minute?
Isn’t it strange how difficult it is to learn spiritual things to share with others,
but how easy it is to learn, understand, extend and repeat gossip?
Isn’t it strange how we share jokes that we hear right away, but when we are
sharing messages about God, we think about it twice before we share it with
others?
Isn’t it strange how we believe everything that magazines and newspapers
say, but we question the words of the Bible?
Isn’t it strange how everyone wants a place in heaven but doesn’t want to
believe, do or say anything to get there?

I saw these thoughts on Facebook this week and it reminded me that we often
give God the leftovers while things that are far less important get the bulk
of our time, energy, and resources. We must always remember that our first
priority in life is our citizenship in the Kingdom of God. HE deserves the best
of everything we have to offer!

Cut to the Chase...
Many of us during our busy weeks seem to have a
full schedule. We get up, get ready and go to work. We come
home and have to clean and cook. We get ready for the next
day of work all while looking ahead towards the weekend,
that one island of freedom in the vast sea of responsibilities.
And in between those times we try to catch our breath a little
bit and relax when we can. We all know how hard it can be
to find enough time to get everything done. It’s rough. But
what if there was a way to add some more time to our busy
schedules? Well, maybe there is a way.
The average American spends 6.7 hours a day (47
hours a week) watching television. Now, not all of us may
spend that much time watching television, but we all know
we do spend a lot of time on it. The thing is, we don’t seem
to have time for what’s important. We watch T.V., but we
don’t seem to have enough time to read our Bibles. We can
talk about the latest episode of our favorite show, but we
can’t make time to talk about God, or have a devotional with
one another. We are told in the Bible in Ephesians 5:15-16,
that we are to make the most out of the time that we have,
because time is short. So let’s ask ourselves, what else could
we be doing with our time?
