Online 4-H Enrollment!
All members and leaders are encouraged to enroll online! The website and enrollment directions will be found on the
front cover of the Enrollment Guide which you should be receiving soon from your club leader. Please let your club
leader know if you do not have access to a computer or you feel uncomfortable enrolling online. They have
information to help you find a way to enroll. We also have a computer with ready access for members to use in our
office. Our normal office hours are 8am - 4:30pm, Monday-Friday. If that time doesn’t work, call our office at 715526-6136 and we can work out a time on some evening when Joe or Terri have a night meeting and can help you.
With this system, all your information has stayed “on file”. So you simply need to look it
over and make changes as needed. Please make sure to check your club and projects in case you wish
to make changes. You will need to delete projects you no longer wish to take and/or add any new
ones. Remember, Shawano County limits the total number of projects to 5, plus youth leadership.
Leaders are also asked to enroll using this online enrollment method. This enrollment process
will also have the expectation form for both members and leaders to acknowledge. Some of you will
find that you will be asked again for your driver’s license and other screening information. This will indicate to you
that we will be conducting a routine background check on you this upcoming year. (The state 4-H program dictates
that this needs to happen every 4 years and our office updated your profile with the last background check info).
There will be no cost to you or your club if you are a re-enrolling leader as the county 4-H Leaders, Inc. pays this.
As a reminder, we now have ONE deadline for enrollment to be eligible to show in the Shawano County Fair.
This deadline (for both new and re-enrolling members) is January 5! As usual, members will still be able
to enroll all year, but this is the deadline for fair showing eligibility.
Earning merits at State Fair with their nonanimal entries-Casey Clark-rocket, Kathryn

Here’s a big “Thank You!” to
all the great volunteers who
helped with the county fair setup day, helped during the fair
and helped on the county fair
clean-up day! We couldn’t have had a fair
without your generous support.

All members, leaders and their families are
invited to attend our annual 4-H Experience.

members for their record books, the years of
dedicated service of our volunteers and present
other prestigious awards to both members and
leaders.
4-H Clubs can promote 4-H in their own areas

open houses are just a few ideas.
Share with others the many opportunities that
await individuals who become involved in 4-H.
Handouts and brochures are available from the
UW-Extension Office. If you want help or have
questions, contact the UW-Extension Office at
526-6136. Please note that we do have a
portable 4-H display that clubs can borrow for
use at school open houses and other events.
You’ll also hear brief presentations from
participants who attended American Road Trip,
State 4-H Conference, Citizen Washington
Focus and Space Camp.

Adult and Youth Leaders
4-H Super Saturday
INSTRUCTORS NEEDED !
4-H Super Saturday events have been so
popular, we’d like to offer this program again
on January 9th
To do this, we’ll need volunteer instructors to
teach sessions! Please talk to persons you
know that have a special talent that can be
shared with youth and/or adults, and ask them
if they’d like to teach a one, two or three-hour
session at Super Saturday. Most older 4-H
members also have skills developed through
4-H project work that can be shared with
younger kids, so consider teaching a session!
Persons willing to serve as Instructors for
our Super Saturday event should contact Joe
or Terri by Friday, November 13. You can
email Joe at [email protected] or
Terri at [email protected]
Community Service Grants Available
4-H clubs are encouraged to apply for one of the
Land O’ Lakes Community Service Grants. Their
highest priority is Hunger, followed by Education
and then Community giving. Check out their
website at www.foundation.landolakes.com
Attention: All 4-H Leaders
All 4-H leaders need to fill out a “4-H
Enrollment” form and a “Volunteer Behavior
Expectation” form every year in order to retain
active 4-H Leader status.
AGAIN THIS YEAR: you can enroll online in
the 4hOnline program and digitally complete
both these forms with your enrollment. Go to:
http://wi.4honline.com
to complete
your
enrollment. (There are reminder instructions for
both those re-enrolling as well are those enrolling
for the first time.) This will ensure you will
continue to receive the Cloverline, get accurate
recognition for years of service, and complete the
first step to receiving a fair pass. If you forgot
your password, there is a button to request that
we reset it for you.
Club project/activity and general leaders: you
can still receive an enrollment guide if you need
one to see what projects you can assist with.
Key Committee leaders who are NOT tied to a
4-H club: you can enroll online yourself or you
may wish to enroll while attending the key
committee work night on October 13, we will
have a computer available to do so. Or feel free
to stop in our office any time during office hours
(8-4:30pm, Monday-Friday). If this is not an
option, call Terri and we will work out
something!
Don & Bernice Schoedel
Community Involvement Awards
The Awards Program for all clubs with
scrapbooks in June Dairy Month and Youth In
Action will be at the “4-H Experience”.
Clubs in Shawano County are actively pursuing
community service projects. If your club hasn't
done a scrapbook in the past, think about putting
something together for next year. Get recognition
for your involvement in the community.
Shawano County Endowment Fund
Each year the interest earned on the Don and
Bernice Schoedel/ Shawano County 4-H
Endowment Fund is awarded to deserving 4-H
programs. Approximately $1500 is expected to
be earned by the endowment fund this year. A
request form to apply for these funds is available
at the UW-Extension office. Requests must be
submitted by October 26th. The 4-H Executive
Board will meet shortly thereafter to decide on
financial awards. The Endowment Fund was
recently valued at over $60,000.
Sunday Night Fair Dance a BIG HIT
Keep Your Yellow ID Card
Those of you who have attended this dance on
Sunday night at the fair in previous years may
remember that each year the dairy and
livestock key committees chose a 4-H family
to be a recipient of ½ of the funds raised during
this event. (The remainder is used to pay for
the DJ and other costs incurred to hold this
event, with any additional amount
possibly given to another 4-H family
in need in the upcoming year.) With
the transition to a new group running
this event, the new organizers, the Shawano
County 4-H Older Youth Group (OYG),
wish to continue that tradition. It is an
easy way to help out our 4-H neighbors
and have fun in the process. Due to the
generosity of those who attended, the OYG
will be able to send a check to the Szucs family
(on Melissa’s behalf), Brunner family (on
Brianna’s behalf), Dana Robaidek, and Blair
Christianson.
All continuing 4-H adult volunteers are reminded
to keep their yellow certification card from
participation in the Youth Protection Program.
This is a permanent ID card that all WI adult
volunteers have.
Memorials
This Spring, Susan Schultz lost a courageous
battle with cancer. She volunteered with her
children’s 4-H club and taught youth the value
of hard work and a healthy lifestyle. Generous
memorials from family, friends and businesses
were given to Pella Eagles 4-H and Town Line
4-H. We acknowledge Sue’s husband, Tim and
their family for thinking of
Shawano County 4-H during
this difficult time.
Last month, Ed Peterman
passed away at the age of 88.
Living in Angelica most of his life, Ed was a
founding member of Angelica 4-H Club in
1926. In addition to being a General Leader,
Ed helped with other project work, including
woodworking out of his shop on the farm. Ed
and his wife, Darlene worked side by side as a
team for the kids.
Training for 4-H Club Officers
All new 4-H Club Officers should mark Super
Saturday, January 9th, on their calendars! This
will be the annual 4-H Club Officer Training. If
you’ve just been elected to a new officer
position, here’s your chance to learn how to do
the job right! Look for registration information
in the December Cloverline.
Training for New 4-H Leaders
ALL FIRST YEAR 4-H LEADERS should plan
to attend the January 26 session to complete
their required Youth Protection Training and
Volunteer Orientation. We will meet in the
County Board Room, 2nd floor of the courthouse,
7:00 - 9:00pm.
ALL first year adults wishing to serve as
volunteers (club general leaders, project and
activity leaders, coaches, etc.) are required to
attend a two-hour orientation/training, sign a list
of volunteer behavior guidelines and authorize a
confidential records check through the
Department of Justice. Attendance at this
training will meet this requirement!
Please contact the UW-Extension Office to let us
know you will be coming so that we can have a
packet of materials prepared for you. Cost of the
records check is $7, and will be paid for by the
volunteer at this training session. (If you
continue as a 4-H volunteer, the cost of all future
background checks will be paid by Shawano
County 4-H Leaders Inc.) The Youth Protection
Program is being implemented to protect every
child who is involved with 4-H and to make a
solid effort in training volunteers so a safe
environment is maintained.

Shawano County Fair
Fair Exhibit Checks
4-H Dairy
Quiz Bowl Team
Animal Sciences
Dairy Quiz Bowl is a
fun way to learn about
the dairy industry and test your knowledge!
Dairy Quiz Bowl is like the “Jeopardy” TV
game show, where contestants are asked
questions about any and all aspects of the dairy
industry! Teams are awarded points for
answering questions correctly. There is a State
4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl Contest that our
Shawano County teams participate in……
usually held at the end of January or early in
February. Practice will begin soon. If you’d
like to participate in Dairy Quiz Bowl, contact
Sara Harbaugh or Heather Jauquet at 920-3717511 or [email protected].
Livestock Auction Checks
FSA Youth Loans Available
Exhibitor livestock checks will soon be delivered
to the UWEX office. General Leaders and FFA
Advisors will be sent an email notice to pick up
all checks for their members. Leaders/Advisors
will then make arrangements with their members
to distribute the checks in person. (Likely at
Oct./Nov. club meetings so be sure to attend.)
UW-Extension, 4-H Club Leaders and FFA
Advisors will NOT mail your check.
FSA makes loans to individual youths to establish
and operate income-producing projects of modest
size in connection with their participation in 4-H or
FFA. Each project must be part of an organized and
supervised program of work designed to provide
practical business and educational experience. The
project must be planned and operated with the help
of the organization adviser and produce sufficient
income to repay the loan.
Fair Award Recipients –
Send Thank You Notes!
A loan is available to young persons between the
ages 10 and 20 years. Maximum loan amount is
$5,000.
To receive your fair premium checks, you must
turn in your completed record book to your
General Leader (see Fair Premium Book, page 10,
#6 of the rules section). They will
have your checks after the 4-H
Experience (October 25th).
When you receive your check, cash
it right away as the Ag Society business year ends
soon. Checks must be cashed by Nov. 30th.
If you received a plaque this year at the fair
please take a moment to let the Award Sponsor
know what this means to you. Many sponsors
state that the reason they no longer wish to
sponsor is because they don’t feel the members
appreciate their award since they receive no
thank you note.
Daylight-Saving Time
Ends Sunday,
November 1st . . . .
Loan funds may be used to:
 Buy livestock, seed, equipment and supplies
 Buy, rent or repair needed tools and equipment

Does Your Club Have “Friends”?
Hats Off to Horse Project Members
Hats off to State Hunt and Dressage riders in
our 4-H horse project. Ashlyn Schnell, Kayla
Moeller, Breanna Schnell and Molly Russell
rode at the three-day State event representing
Shawano County with pride. Collectively they
brought home 1 Grand Champion, 3 Reserve
Champions and 17 Top Tens. Classes were
huge, but they managed to get into the top ten
in all but 5 classes. Classes that they excelled
at were hunter equitation and hunter pleasure,
training and first level dressage and
intermediate jumpers.
If a person, organization or business has made an
important contribution to your club, either in
goods, time or money, we have certificates
available to recognize them. Stop by the UWExtension office and pick some up.
Recycle Your Fair Ribbons
Do you have some fair ribbons (Jr. Fair or
Open class) that you no longer want? If they are
in good shape, you can recycle them by bringing
to the UW- Extension office.
Let’s help keep fair costs down!
Expand Your Goat Project!
The UWEX office is currently working with an area goat farmer to provide a young Oberhasli doe
goat to a Shawano County 4-H member at no charge. If you were in the goat project for 2015, you
will receive notification when the application form/process is ready (approx. October 5th). If you were
not in the goat project in 2015, you may still be eligible, but will need to contact the UWEX office for
an application. The recipient will be required to show this goat at the 2016 Shawano County Fair.
County Level Project Key Committees are very important to the Shawano County 4-H Program. “Key”
Committees consist of leaders, parents, adults, community resource people and youth leaders interested in
similar project or activity areas. These committees plan, implement and evaluate county-wide educational
programs and opportunities, give suggestions for exhibits and judges at the county fair...taking an active role
in the Shawano County 4-H Program.
October 13th has been set aside as Key Committee Work Night.
We’ll start with a brief orientation, then look at roles of committees, what resources are available and what
direction their program may follow, evaluating and planning for various project educational workshops,
suggesting judges and exhibit selections for county fair. At this time, UW-Extension Agents and the 4-H
Program Assistant will be available to meet with various committees in an advisory role.
The following Key Committees will meet on October 13th from 7:00 - 9:00pm (unless otherwise noted):

Record Books, Awards & Achievement; Camp; and Softball - will not meet at this time. But you may
enroll online to become a key committee member and we will notify you of upcoming meetings.

ALL Key Committees will be asked to select chair people and recorders and submit a "Plan of Action"
and budget requests at the end of their meeting - this information will be compiled into a Key Committee
Reference Guide and distributed at the January 4-H Leaders, Inc. meeting and posted online.

Anyone who wishes to get involved with any of the project areas or activities listed above should plan to
attend Key Committee Worknight! This is the first step in planning project meetings, activities and
improving the fair for next year.

All interested adult leaders and older 4-H members are invited to participate on Key Committees. If
you’d like to help improve the County 4-H program, this is your opportunity.
If you are interested in only serving on a county key committee and are not involved with an
individual club, make sure you enroll online at http://wi.4honline.com to complete your
enrollment. You will find the County Key Committee Option located near the project you wish to help
with. IF you are interested in enrolling in one of the Activity Key committees listed above, look under
“Leader – Key Committee” and you will find those choices there. Refer to the article earlier in this
Cloverline for more information. This enrollment must be completed each year for you to be
considered a 4-H Leader and to remain on our mailing list.
