What is travel, really?
Dear Traveler,
Yes, travel is expensive. And it’s so easy to just stay home. So why travel?
In this brochure you’ll find 3 ways to
experience Italy:
Well, there’s plenty of excitement in just the anticipation
of the trip to come. Then there’s the thrill of actually
going - the delight in experiencing new places – live and in
person. The tastes, colors, sounds and senses - firing on
all cylinders!
1) Our classic escorted tours, including our new Athens & Greek Island tour.
But the TRUE POWER of travel happens after you come
home. The memories that will stay with you for life. And
when you travel with friends or a loved one – you share
this “little secret” together - your trip to Italy way back
in 2014.
3) Our new villa rentals including castles, homes & apartments throughout Italy.
Ten years from now you’ll say to your partner . . .
“Remember that full moon over the Bay of Naples?” . . .
“Remember the Italian shopkeeper whose cousin lives
in our home town?” . . . “Remember the tour guide who
couldn’t pronounce your name, but he cried at the airport
when we left?”
And when you bring your extended family to Italy in 2014,
the memories will be part of your entire family’s history for generations to come. What a way to bond!
So yes, you can stay home, save the money, or buy a
new TV. Or, you can enrich your life and strengthen your
personal relationships with an amazing shared experience
on a Perillo Tour, a customized Italy vacation or now – a
villa rental!
2) Our customized Italy services for groups & individuals: ItalyVacations.com.
So start building memories, shared memories, that
will enrich your entire life. And when you write your
memoirs, don’t forget to mention that Perillo vacation
you took back in ‘14!
By the way, be sure to ask for our newly revised, one
hour, hi-definition Italy/Hawaii DVD. It’s a beautiful
preview to the wonderful experiences that lay ahead!

INTRODUCING PERILLO’S
CUSTOMIZED GROUP TRAVEL
Book a Customized or Escorted Tour For Your Group of 15 or More and Travel Free.
Most of the Italy tours in this brochure are pre-set, all-inclusive,
scheduled group departures. But if you form your own group
of 15 or more people, you can enjoy a completely customized
vacation to Italy or throughout Europe!
HERE ARE SOME GROUP IDEAS:
Family Groups
What better way to spend quality time than traveling together.
Great for reunions or to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries,
graduations and other big events in your family’s life. We can
even track your roots with local genealogical researchers.
See our sample itineraries at PerilloTours.com/groups.
Weddings
Italy is certainly one of the most romantic countries in the
world. That’s what makes it the ideal location for your wedding,
honeymoon, renewal of vows or ‘romance vacation’.
As a ‘destination wedding’, we can arrange your paperwork,
religious or secular ceremony, flowers, photographers and
reception. And we’ll arrange for your guests to join you. Simply
set up a phone appointment with our Group Department to
get started.
Faith-Based Travelers
Can you imagine gazing upon the wonder of Michelangelo’s
frescos that cling to the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Vatican
City? Or, walking in the mystical footsteps of St. Paul?
For more than 69 years, Perillo Tours has hosted thousands of
believers on carefully crafted itineraries which offer a perfect
blend of touring and exploring. In fact, Mario Perillo met his wife
in 1950 during a Holy Year pilgrimage to Rome! See our Faith
Journeys Brochure at PerilloTours.com/groups.

There’s an additional benefit to this. If you fall short of the 25

pay the tour rate shown in this brochure. So if you don’t reach
your minimum, we’ll help reach it for you!

Just outside of Rome are the “Castelli Romani”
– old fortified villages set among chestnut
trees, vineyards, olive groves and lakes. In
ancient times, these were the vacation towns
of the Roman noblemen and the Popes. We
drive south of the city, along the Appian Way,
to the charming town of Genzano. We stop to
view the Lake of Nemi, dedicated to the pagan
goddess Diana and famous for its succulent
wild strawberries. Next we visit the Castel
Gandolfo, where for some time each summer,
the Pope resides.
On to Marino, famous for its wine festival where
real wine flows freely from the fountain in the
main square.
Finally, we come to Frascati. Time to enjoy a
Pope Francis
stroll through the town and lunch on your own.
Try the famous “porchetta panino” with
Frascati wine.
Tonight we enjoy a fun dinner in the
characteristic district of Trastevere, one of the
centers of Roman nightlife, with wines fit for
the Roman Gods! BB, D
DAY 4 - Tuesday ’Special Access’ VIP
Vatican Experience ➤ St. Peter’s Basilica
At 8am this morning we begin our beforehours privileged entrance to the Vatican
Museum and Sistine Chapel. (This is a
semi-private experience, sometimes with a
few other small groups, as opposed to the
usual 1000’s of visitors who arrive later in
the morning.)
What a way to experience the Sistine Chapel!
But exceptionally, your guide will be able
to speak freely in the chapel to us, before
the crowds enter when SILENZIO is strictly
enforced.
After a coffee-break in the museum’s
cafeteria, our private tour continues to the
Raphael Rooms, the Sala Di Chiaroscuro, the
‘secret’ Nicolina Chapel inside the walls of the
Vatican and the Borgia Apartments. These are
ALL areas well off the normal tourist route!
Finally, we go outside to the Papal gardens. An
electric coach will drive us through the private
park of the Pontiff to view the beautiful

plantings and statues – and perhaps spot a
Pope, or two - as is only possible at this time!
[Specific rooms and tours of the gardens
can be cancelled at the last minute due to
unforeseen activities of the Holy Father. In
which case an alternative site will be offered
within the Vatican.]
Next, again avoiding all lines, we slip through
a side door to find ourselves inside an
awesome marble canyon, the seat of the Holy
Catholic Church - St. Peter’s Basilica. Among
the priceless wonders are Michelangelo’s Pieta’,
Bernini’s fantastical bronze altar pillars, and
mosaics that you’ll insist are painted with a
brush. Instead, they’re made with millions of
tiny chips that are undetectable, even close up!
After a lunch break, we board our coach for
a panoramic city tour of Rome. What a day!
Back at the hotel, your guide will have some
ideas for dinner on your own – from pizza and
a beer to 5-Star dining. BB
DAY 5 - Wednesday Rome ➤ Papal
Audience (when available) & Saint John’s
in Lateran Cathedral
This morning we head back to the Vatican.
Experience the awe and wonder of the Papal
Audience as Cardinals preach in various
languages reaching out to pilgrims and visitors
from all over the world. Listen to the Pope’s
weekly message as he enters the central stage.
This afternoon, we continue on to visit St.
John’s-in-Lateran Cathedral of Rome. It ranks
first among the four Papal Basilicas of Rome.
We stop and view the Holy Stairs which are,
according to the Christian tradition, where
Jesus Christ stood during his Passion on his way
to trial. The stairs were, reputedly, brought to
Rome by St. Helena in the 4th century.
Tonight you have another chance to explore
the wonderful restaurants in Rome on your
own. Be sure to try some “Fiori di zucca”, a
specialty in Rome: Zucchini flowers, deep
fried and filled with mozzarella cheese and
anchovies. BB
DAY 6 - Thursday Rome ➤ Assisi ➤
Florence ➤ Dinner in Hotel
Next we stop in the town of Santa Maria degli
Angeli to see the Basilica where St. Francis
worshipped. The Basilica is the seventh largest
Christian church in the world. Inside is a small
& simple church - the ‘Porziuncola’, the place
where St. Francis spent all his time praying and
also where he founded the Franciscan Order of
the Friars Minor.
Tonight we enjoy dinner in the hotel. BB, D
DAY 7 - Friday Florence ➤ Florence City
Sightseeing Including “The David” ➤ Pisa
City Tour ➤ Florence ➤ Dinner Out
Florence – the fountainhead of the
Renaissance, awaits our inspection!
Our day of sightseeing includes the majestic
Duomo built in 1296, Giotto’s Bell Tower and
the Baptistery with its renowned “Gates of
Paradise” doors.
We follow the medieval streets to the most
striking square in Florence, Piazza della
Signoria, home of Santa Croce Church,
Michelangelo’s final resting place.
“Breathtaking” is the only word to describe
one’s first view of Michelangelo’s David. Yes, it’s
quite large and detailed. But the real magic is in
how Michelangelo transformed a lifeless rock
into a man all with just a hammer and chisel!
This afternoon we travel to Pisa, known for its
famous leaning tower. The Piazza del Duomo,
also known as “Piazza dei Miracoli “(Square
of Miracles) is recognized as one of the main
centers for medieval art in the world. It is
dominated by four great religious edifices: the
Cathedral, the Campanile (the leaning tower),
the Baptistery and the Camposanto. We’ll enter

the Cathedral which is dedicated to St. Mary of
the Assumption. Inside the Cathedral is a big
candelabrum near the altar. It’s said that Galileo
Galilei tested his laws of the pendulum using
this candelabrum!
Next we enter the Baptistery, the largest in all
of Italy, made entirely of marble. This building,
which is dedicated to St. John the Baptist,
took 211 years to construct! It is famous for its
perfect acoustics.
Dinner tonight will be at a popular Florentine
restaurant with great Tuscan wines. BB, D
DAY 8 - Saturday Florence ➤ Siena
➤ Wine Tasting & Lunch in Chianti
➤ Florence
Today we travel back in time to the middle
ages: Siena, a beautiful medieval city. We visit
the famous Piazza del Campo, one of Europe’s
greatest medieval squares. And the site of
Siena’s famous horse race, the Palio di Siena.
We visit Siena’s town hall, Palazzo Pubblico,
a beautiful gothic building which sits on
Piazza del Campo by the bell tower, and the
enchanting Duomo featuring the most ornate
mosaic floor in all Italy. Siena’s grand Cathedral,
which was was built in the 1200s, is one of the
finest examples of Italian Gothic architecture.
Next, we’ll visit a local winery where we’ll enjoy
a typical Tuscan lunch and wine tasting! Salute!
Tonight you can enjoy dinner on your own.

Museums, a treasure trove of ancient Greek
sculptures, medieval tapestries and Renaissance
paintings. Our visit culminates in the Sistene
Chapel, the room where the Pope is elected.
Next we visit St. Peter’s Basilica, by far the
largest church in Christendom. We’ll see
Michelangelo’s Pieta’, sculpted when he was
just 24, as well as Bernini’s seven story bronze

Tonight we’ll recount our explorations with

Hail Caesar! All aboard our chariot for a

Roman Forum, Largo Argentina (where Caesar
was stabbed by Brutus), the Jewish Ghetto and
the Circus Maximus.
Then we’ll enter the Colosseum, reliving the
brutal entertainment of the gladiators and the
lions, refereed by the Emperor himself.
Tonight we thought you’d enjoy a dinner on
your own. Ask your tour guide for a nearby
recommendation, or venture out and explore
the lively local restaurants in Rome! BB
DAY 5 - Monday Rome ➤ Naples ➤
Pompeii ➤ Sorrento ➤ Dinner in Hotel
After breakfast, (“colazione” in Italian), we’re
off to Naples….birthplace of Caruso, Sophia
Loren, Bel Canto and ‘O Sole Mio. Have your
cameras ready because we will arrive in Naples
via Vomero Hill overlooking the sapphire Bay
of Naples, Capri, Ischia and proud Vesuvius. We
enjoy a brief panoramic tour of the city.
Next we travel back to 97 A.D. to the town of
Pompeii. A city perfectly preserved by the ash
that rained down from Mt. Vesuvius, you’ll see
the tragic fossils of the people attempting to
escape with their children and dogs. And the
streets, homes and stores that are intact.
Tonight, we’ll enjoy a relaxing dinner in our
hotel overlooking the bay of Naples. BB, D

This morning we’re off to Florence via the
Highway of the Sun. As we traverse the gently
rolling countryside to the capital of Tuscany,
we’re reminded of the geniuses who traveled

ONLY pedestrian city! Here, everything and
everyone floats. One floats luxuriously with
such a sense of freedom, never tormented by
traffic or even the sound of a horn.
Your guide will show you all the sights – St.
Mark’s Square, the Basilica and the Bridge of
Sighs. Just around the corner from St. Mark’s
Square, we’ll enjoy a special Venetian lunch in a
town renowned for its seafood specialties.
This evening we return to Florence for dinner
on our own. BB, L

DAY 9 - Friday Florence ➤ City
Sightseeing Including ‘The David’
➤ Dinner Out Tonight
Florence - the fountainhead of the
Renaissance – awaits our inspection!
Our day of sightseeing includes the majestic
Duomo built in 1296, Giotto’s Bell Tower and
the Baptistery with its renowned “Gates of
Paradise” doors.
We follow the medieval streets to the most
striking square in Florence, Piazza della
Signoria, home of Santa Croce Church,
Michelangelo’s final resting place.
“Breathtaking” is the only word to describe
one’s first view of Michelangelo’s David. Yes,
it’s quite large and detailed. But the real magic
is in how Michelangelo transformed a lifeless
rock into a man – full of pride, wary of his
adversary, yet quietly confident. All with just
a hammer and a chisel!
Our last night together will be at a popular
Florentine restaurant with great Tuscan wines.
No tears allowed! You’ll exchange email
addresses with your new friends and make
plans for the future. How about we all meet
again on another Perillo Tour to Hawaii! BB, D

It’s not only an artistic shrine with frescoes by
Giotto, but also the burial place of 270 of the

early Renaissance creations.
Tonight, please be our guest at a fine local
Florentine restaurant with flowing wines and

While the ambitious city of Florence was
launching the Renaissance, Siena was her “laid
back” country cousin. Just 30 miles south of
Florence, she is considered the best preserved
medieval city in Italy.
Our guided tour will include the elaborately
carved Gothic cathedral, Town Hall and Piazza
del Campo-site of the famous Palio horse
race. You’ll have time for lunch on your own,
shopping and a little more exploration.
This afternoon we’ll visit a typical Tuscan winery
to learn about the grape, the “nose,” food
pairings and more importantly-which glass to
use! We’ll enjoy a wine tasting with these special
wines. Cin-Cin!
Tonight, we rejoin the 21st century with a typical
Roman dinner at our hotel. BB, D

Navona, toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain
to ensure your return and stroll across the Tiber
for another look at the Vatican. Rome is a great
city for walking, shopping and people watching.
Tonight, you’re free to enjoy a night in Rome

Sorrento
Our journey to Sorrento takes us through the
rolling hills, scenic vineyards and post-card
perfect vistas of Tuscany and Umbria. Soon,
we are in Sorrento, high on a beautiful plateau,
greeted by the sapphire blue Gulf of Naples
and majestic Mount Vesuvius.
DAY 13 - Wednesday Rome Sightseeing
➤ Afternoon at Leisure
When most Americans think of Italian food,
they’re usually thinking of the dishes of Naples
and Sorrento - spaghetti with tomato and
basil, mozzarella and pizza are all from this
area. Here’s your chance to try the “real thing!”
Then we’ll enter the Colosseum, reliving the
brutal entertainment of the gladiators and the
lions, refereed by the Emperor himself.
BB
DAY 6 - Wednesday Venice ➤ Padua
➤ Florence
We’re off to Florence today with an inspiring
stop along the way. Visitors to Padua are
often surprised by a sense of deep spirituality.
St. Anthony (patron Saint of lost objects) is
interred here in the serene Basilica which dates
back to the 1200s. Next to Florence! Home of
Dante, Boccaccio, Botticelli, da Vinci, and some
say, the best gelato in Italy!
Back at the hotel, our tour director is happy
to offer this evening’s restaurant suggestions.
Perhaps, world famous Florentine steak? BB
DAY 7 - Thursday Florence ➤ City
Sightseeing including ‘The David’
Florence, the fountainhead of the Renaissance,
awaits our inspection.
Our day of sightseeing includes the majestic
Duomo built in 1296, Giotto’s Bell Tower and
the Baptistery with its renowned “Gates of
Paradise” doors.
We follow the medieval streets to the most
striking square in Florence, Piazza della
Signoria, home of Santa Croce Church,
Michelangelo’s final resting place.
“Breathtaking” is the only word to describe
one’s first view of Michelangelo’s David. Yes, it’s
quite large and detailed. But the real magic is in
how Michelangelo transformed a lifeless rock
into a man - full of pride, wary of his adversary,
yet quietly confident. All with just a hammer
and a chisel.
You’ll be sure to find a perfect Florentine
dinner spot tonight. BB
DAY 8 - Friday Florence ➤ Pisa ➤ Wine
Tasting in Tuscany ➤ Florence
The bell tower of Pisa is among the most
instantly recognizable structures on earth.
Architects say it would be world famous even
if it were perfectly straight. This morning we’ll
see for ourselves, along with the beautiful
Cathedral and Baptistery.
This afternoon we’ll visit a typical Tuscan
38931_HS_BROCHURE.indd 17
Tonight, treat yourself to one of Rome’s
fine restaurants for a fabulous dinner. May we

Amatriciana; Spaghetti alla Carbonara; Roasted
lamb with garlic and rosemary; stuffed
artichokes (To die for!) ....is your appetite whet
yet? BB

Sorrento
➤
This morning you’ll be taken to Capri, the
world’s most enchanting island. You can

Tiberius who used the Blue Grotto as his
personal swimming pool.
Hail Caesar! All aboard our chariot for a
panoramic tour of Imperial Rome including
the Roman Forum, Largo Argentina, the Jewish
Ghetto and the Circus Maximus.
This afternoon, Rome is all yours! Shop,

restaurants for a delizioso dinner! BB
