Kickoff
Salisbury hits the road for the first time since October 4. The Sea Gulls look to stretch their
winning streak to four games.
Series History
The teams have split the four meetings in the all-time series, with the Sea Gulls picking up
wins in the first two games, while the Bombers have claimed the last two meetings. Salisbury
won the initial meeting, during the 1986 NCAA tournament and the first Empire 8 Athletic
Conference meeting, in 2011, while Ithaca has won the last two Empire 8 games.
Last Time We Met
Last season, Salisbury jumped ahead 10-0 in the regular-season meeting at Sea Gull Stadium
on November 9. The Bombers would come back to tie the game, 10-10, just before halftime,
and take a 17-10 lead early in the third quarter. The Sea Gulls evened the scored with a 21yard touchdown run by quarterback John Dunbar midway through the third quarter. The
game went to overtime, tied at 17, and Ithaca would get a 9-yard touchdown pass to collect
a 24-23 victory. Dunbar ran for 84 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the defeat.
Last Time Out
Last Saturday, the Salisbury offense exploded for a season-high 514 rushing yards and 59
points in the highest scoring game (combined points) for Salisbury since 2011. The Sea Gulls
fell behind 14-0 on Homecoming/Family Weekend, but roared back to tie the game 14-14,
on a Ryan Kolb touchdown run, and then 21-21 on a Kolb 85-yard kickoff return. Salisbury
took its first lead of the day, 28-27, with 1:32 left in the first half, but 13 points were still to
be scored as the Gulls held a 35-33 lead at the break. Salisbury outscored the Hawks 24-16
in the second half to hold on for the 59-49 win. Sophomore slot Aarron Moore ran for 93

Scouting Ithaca
Ithaca enters this weekend’s game on a two-game skid, having lost to Frostburg State
University last Saturday, in double overtime. The Bombers began 2014 on a four-game
winning streak. Ithaca is paced offensively by quarterback Tom Dempsey, who has
connected on 128-of-183 passes for 1,466 yards and 15 touchdowns. Dempsey has hit
Vito Boffoli on five of those touchdown passes. Schnaydor Termidor has led the
defense, with five sacks, while Kenneth Bradley has posted a team-best 43 tackles.
Running For Daylight
The Sea Gulls ran the ball for a season-high 514 yards against Hartwick last week,
bringing their season average to 345.8 rushing yards per game. The average leads the
Empire 8, by 118 yards, and ranks fourth nationally.
Ice That Arm
Salisbury junior quarterback John Dunbar led the Sea Gulls from behind on October 4
against St. John Fisher, completing a career-best 10-of-14 passes for a career-high 149
yards. Dunbar completed two of those passes on Salisbury’s game-tying drive at the
end of regulation, with the passes of 23 and 17 yards each going for first downs.

yards and three touchdowns, while quarterback John Dunbar found the end zone twice.
Junior linebacker James Hall paced the defense, recording a game-high 10 tackles, five
behind the line of scrimmage, included three sacks; he also forced and recovered a
fumble.
Hook, Line, And Touchdown!
In the triple-option offense, the ball goes where the defense allows it to go. Players
never know how many touches they will get, but what matters is what you do with the
touches you get. Senior super back J.D. Hook had just 10 carries in Salisbury’s overtime
win against No. 6 St. John Fisher College on October 4, but had the most important
carry of the day. In overtime, trailing by three points, Hook got the call on a carry up
the middle. He broke two tackles on the effort, getting to the end zone for the gamewinning score.
Game Changer
Special teams is a key part of the game, determining field position, and can change the
tempo of an entire contest. This season, Salisbury has had one of the best in the
country on their side with sophomore Ryan Kolb. Kolb is averaging 16.3 yards per punt
return this year, which ranks 12th in Division III football. Kolb’s 28.3 yards per kick
return also lead the Empire 8 and rank 24th in the country. For his efforts against
Hartwick College, which included an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, on October
18, Kolb was named the Empire 8’s Special Teams Player of the Week.
Make It Count
The Salisbury offense is primarily based around the run, but when the Sea Gulls have
chosen to pass this year, they’ve made it count. Salisbury ranks fourth in the nation this
season, averaging 20.04 yards per pass completion.

Pardon Our Dust
Sea Gull Stadium is undergoing an upgrade! The stadium, which opened in 1980, has
seen the beginning of a construction project with the relocation of the home bleachers,
making room on the west side of the field where a groundbreaking ceremony will take
place this fall and construction will begin over the winter on a new building that will
feature, among other things, an athletic training clinic, equipment room, locker rooms
for the four Salisbury teams that call Sea Gull Stadium home, meetings areas, public
restrooms, concession stand, souvenir store, visitors’ locker room and a press level for
media, video and radio productions. The expected completion date for this project is
spring 2016.
At The Top Of The empire 8
Salisbury has been selected to finish second in the Empire 8 Athletic Conference in the
preseason coaches' poll. Salisbury received 53 points in the poll, just 11 points behind
St. John Fisher College, which grabbed 64 points and eight first-place votes. Ithaca
College was picked third, just one point behind the Sea Gulls; the Bombers picked up
the final first-place vote.
The Next Step
The Salisbury University football team will call a new conference home beginning in the
2015 season as the Sea Gulls will become associate members of the New Jersey Athletic
Conference.
Salisbury makes the move with current Empire 8 Athletic Conference member
Frostburg State University, USA South Athletic Conference member Christopher Newport
University and football independents Southern Virginia University and Wesley College.
The teams will join Rowan University, The College of New Jersey, Montclair State
University, William Paterson University and Kean University. The State University of New
York at Cortland and Morrisville State College, currently NJAC members, will join the
Empire 8 in 2015.
Up Next
The Sea Gulls return home next week, hosting Alfred University to begin a two-game
homestand. They are the final two home games of the regular season. The game
against the Saxons is scheduled to kickoff at noon.
