UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
Newfane Community Food Pantry
The June meeting of the United Methodist Women will
be held on June 14th at 9:30 am in the Dining Room.
We will be hosting other local UMW units to join us in
our yearly June Brunch. Women of our church are
welcome to join us for this time of fellowship. Invitation
is on the bulletin board in the Memorial Room.
Please let Amy know by Friday, June 10th if would like
to attend – 778-7011 from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon
Monday – Friday.
We do not have meetings in July and August but our
ladies will sell cutlery at the farmer’s Market on
Wednesday nights from 4:30 pm-7:00 pm. We will start
up again on September 13th.

With summer vacation just around the corner, the
children will no longer receive free breakfast &
lunch. Families need food for these meals. The
families’ food budget will be stretched even more
than usual. Non-perishable foods that will be
especially helpful at this time are: tuna fish, boxed
mac & cheese, soup, Spaghettios, peanut butter,
jelly, Fluff, any type of crackers, pork & beans.
Also, please keep the cereals coming. These are
suggestions, but any non-perishable food, paper
product or personal care products are welcome
Cash is good; just mail checks to the pantry at Box
#87, Newfane NY.
MAY CHURCH COUNCIL NEWS
TREASURERS REPORT-Dan Cushman: Balances for
April 2016 are as follows: Current Expenses: $175.31
Checking Account: $33,253.36.
Wills and Memorials balance: $20,907.92.
The April Apportionments were not paid.
Missions–Brian Scott: On June 11 we will be making
cookies/dessert and taking them to several parish
members.
United Methodist Women–Jean Schweigert: The
Women are investigating new chairs for the dining room.
Our group attended a meeting at North Ridge UMC. The
local UMW’s will meet at our church in June.
Finance Committee-Sandy Smalley: Substitute plate
collection counters are needed. See Paul Beakman or
Sandy Smalley if you would like to help.
Pastor Kim: Pastor Kim and Paul Beakman are looking
into a date for Pastor Beth Malone to come, and speak,
to our Finance Committee about Apportionments.
Bill Neidlinger: Looking into placing our “Rack Cards”
around town.
Youth Group-Ken Say: The Youth group will have a
sleep-over July 15-16.
SPRC-Nancy Beakman: Candidates for Bell Choir
Director are being interviewed.
Secretary-Amy Luckman: The “Fundraising Paint Night”
held here May 19 benefits Lockport CARES.

The flower and plant sale is currently going now
through the end of June at Smith Farm and
Greenhouses. There are yellow coupons at the
church for you to take with you so that they can
keep track of the sales. Thank you for your
support. If you have any questions you can see
me at church or call at 778-8039. We will be
getting a percentage of your sales when the
season is over. Thank you again.

RIDE FOR ROSWELL
Once again this year Brian Scott will be doing the
ride for Roswell. I would like to offer a challenge to
the congregation for every dollar donated to help
him raise funds I will match that amount. Let's see
how much we can raise for this wonderful cause.
All money raised goes directly to Roswell for their
research.
Thank you in advance for your support. There will
be a container on the table in the overflow room,
or given directly to Brian or myself.

PASTOR’S CORNER
Grace and Peace to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
In Revelation 3:16, the Lord is describing the “lukewarm” heart attitude of those in
The Laodicean church, an attitude manifested by their deeds. They were neither
cold nor hot in relation to God, just lukewarm. The people of Laodicea were
wealthy and felt like they were self-sufficient and were quite comfortable with their
situation but Jesus could see they had no understanding of their spiritual needs.
The people of Laodicea had become halfhearted in their relationship with Christ.
The Lord would rather that people be either hot: meaning spiritually on fire for Him
or cold: that they would reject Him outright, being lukewarm was nauseating to the
Lord.
I was thinking about this image of lukewarm not being what Jesus wanted and I
was reminded of something in my own experience. Maybe you can identify with it
also. Our beverages are better either cold or hot. You see, I enjoy a cup of piping
hot coffee, but once it has cooled off I will dump it. I also enjoy a glass of ice cold
water or Coca Cola, but if it has sat so long that the ice has melted and it is just a
glass of watered down lukewarm coke or water, it goes down the drain. I want my coffee hot or my coke or
water cold, but not lukewarm.
Does our society encourage lukewarm Christianity? There are so many people who were once on fire for the
Lord, that have put their faith on the shelf and forgotten about it and it has cooled off. Unfortunately, the hearts
of people have been consumed by their jobs, hobbies, entertainment, and other activities that pull them away
from God. We are in danger of becoming like the people of Laodicea, who were comfortable in their lives of
successful marketing and financial stability. We have become lackadaisical in our faith and have forgotten our
calling to be about sharing God’s love, the message of salvation, and inviting others to know and follow Jesus
Christ.
If we read on in this chapter of Revelation we read that after addressing their shameful lack of faith, He calls
them to repent and to turn to Him. What follows is a familiar passage that people love to hear and quote:
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice
and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”
Revelation 3:19-20
The first thing that we must do if we would have fellowship with Christ, the kind that will bring warmth and fire to
our Christian life, is to open the door. Are we going to answer the door, warmly inviting Jesus into our hearts
and live as followers who are on fire for the Lord? Being on fire for the Lord is more than being a little ember
that gets stirred up on Sunday morning. It’s about a flame that burns brightly every moment. To keep a flame
burning, we must tend to it by keeping it stoked by studying the Word, the saying of prayer, attending worship
and keeping it open so air (The Holy Spirit) can get to it.
Holman Hunts famous painting, which depicts Jesus standing outside a door with a light in His hand. He is
knocking on the door. When that painting was first finished, a man looked at it and commented to the painter,
“You made a mistake.” Holman Hunt said, “Where is the mistake?” The critic said, “You forgot to paint a handle
on the outside of the door.” Hunt responded, “There is no mistake. The handle is on the inside. Jesus knocks,
but you must open the door!”
My Friends, it is only by your opening the door to greater fellowship with
Christ that you will be able to conquer the lukewarmness which
plagues your heart.

GIVE ME A BREAK
An atheist was spending a quiet day fishing when
suddenly his boat was attacked by the Loch Ness
monster. In one easy flip, the beast tossed him
and his boat high into the air. Then it opened its
mouth to swallow both.
As the man sailed head over heels, he cried out,
'Oh, my God! Help me!'
At once, the ferocious attack scene froze in place,
and as the atheist hung in mid-air, a booming
voice came down from the clouds, 'I thought you
didn't believe in Me!'
Come on God, give me a break!!' the man
pleaded. 'Two minutes ago I didn't believe in the
Loch Ness monster either!'

THE DOORBELL
A pastor is walking down the street one day when
he notices a small boy trying to use the doorbell
on a house across the street. However, the boy is
very small and the doorbell is too high for him to
reach.
After watching the boy’s efforts for some time the
pastor walks across the street up to the little fellow
and rings the doorbell.
Kneeling down next to the child, the pastor smiles
and asks, "And now what, my little man?" To
which the boy replies, "Run!"

THE PASTOR’S TITLE
A local Pastor joined a community Service Club,
and the members thought they would have a little
fun with him. Under his name badge they printed,
"Hog Caller" as his occupation. Everyone made a
big fanfare as the badge was presented.
The Pastor responded by saying, " I usually am
called the "Shepherd of the sheep"... but I guess
you know your people better than I do."

HOT SAUCE
A minister who was very fond of pure, hot
horseradish always kept a bottle of it on his dining
room table. He offered some to a guest, who took
a big spoonful.
When the guest finally was able to speak, he
gasped, "I've heard many ministers preach hellfire,
but you are the first one I've met who passed out a
sample of it."

house. Mini-applications can be obtained from Pastor Kim.
We have a lot on Lake Ave. It is an L-shaped lot with
frontage on Lake Ave., with entrance off Heather Drive. It is
in the Town of Lockport, but in the Newfane School District.

The Good Samaritan Fund is a discretionary fund that is at the
pastor’s disposal. When someone calls with a need, this money is
available for the pastor to offer some help.
If you would like to occasionally support this fund, you will find
envelopes on the back window shelf with the words “Good Samaritan
Fund” across the front of it. Just put your cash or check into it and
place it in the offering plate.

for VBS
Dear Parents.
We're inviting all children to be a part of the excitement at our Vacation Bible School,
CAMP E.D.G.E.: EXPERIENCE + DISCOVER GOD EVERYWHERE.
At CAMP E.D.G.E., your children join an extreme camp adventure where they will come to
know that their strength and might come from God.
Extreme Bible treks will introduce them to Bible characters who have experienced and
discovered God in many ways. Kids will learn an E.D.G.E Pledge with each story to
encourage them to live on the E.D.G.E. every day.
Your children will extend their learnings through every activity: making their own special
memories at the Art Apex, singing new music at Music Max, experiencing science
activities at Exploration Ridge, participating in recreational activities at the Rec Plex, and
enjoying tasty snacks at the Snack Express.
