On Thursday, October 16th, CLUSTER took over Peter Kelly’s X20 and made good on
its promise, that it would have the best event of the season! This year’s Community Spirit
Honorees, Gerry & Beverly Brown Barbour, Michael J. Spicer, CEO, St. Joseph’s Medical Center
and Dr. Nader Sayegh, President, Yonkers Board of Education, were surrounded by over 250
friends, family and colleagues, there to wish them well, and much success. Peter X. Kelly, kicked
the evening into high gear with his fabulous food, and superb wine and spirits, then whipped
the crowd into a bidding frenzy as he proceeded as Special Guest Auctioneer. CLUSTER
successfully raised over $100,000 to support our programs and services. A good time was had
by all!

8TH AN
HARVEST
Dear Friends and
CLUSTER Supporters,
It’s that time of year – before we
know it; the hustle and bustle of
the holiday season will give way
to the blank slate of a new year.
It’s a time for contemplation, a time to take stock of
where we’ve been, what we’re grateful for, lessons
we’ve learned and our hopes for the coming year.
It’s also a good time to reflect on community and
what it means to each of us. What are our shared
aspirations? What do we want for ourselves, our
families and our neighbors? I think many of us would
say we’d like to see a kinder, more just world, where
the most vulnerable among us have opportunities that
will lead them to a better life, as well as the tools to
sustain that life. We’d wish for a community where
all residents have access to high-quality educational
opportunities, good jobs and decent places to live.
This is the kind of community that CLUSTER works
to build every day of the year through its Youth and
Family Programs, Mental Health Residential Services,
Housing Resource Center and the Westchester
and Rockland Mediation Centers. Your support of
CLUSTER’s programs helps to create a world where
everyone has the chance to thrive, and I think that’s
the kind of world we all want to live in. If you have
contributed toward that vision by supporting CLUSTER
in the past year, you have our sincere thanks. If you
haven’t had the opportunity yet, I invite you to learn
about what CLUSTER is doing to make that vision a
reality.
CLUSTER would like to thank all of our
donors who helped to make this event

CLUSTER’s After School Super School has
implemented STEM (science technology,
engineering and math) programming as part of
the after school curriculum. Children in grade
K-6 will still be engaged in reading and literacy
activities with a special focus on the core STEM
areas. They will also engage in activities focused
on science and math. The Super School Program
has a partnership with Sarah Lawrence College
and CURB (Center for the Urban River at
Beczak). Students will travel to the CURB Center
at Beczak once a month to participate in STEM
workshops. The After School Super School
serves 40 children from the Southwest Yonkers
neighborhood.

This past summer 120 children attended
CLUSTER’s Summer Day Camp. It was
a great experience, learning new and
fun activities at camp, swimming and
going on trips. This year the children
visited the Maritime Aquarium in
Mystic, Connecticut, Rye Playland, The
Bronx Zoo, and the Museum of Natural
History. The children also participated
in a volunteer day at AFYA, packing
medical supplies to be sent to developing
countries in need of medicine and
medical supplies around the world.
CLUSTER Receives Grants
CLUSTER started off the school year and
after school program, with good news!
We received a $25,000 grant from the
Thomas & Agnes Carvel Foundation
and also a $9,000 grant from The
Anbinder Foundation. Both grants will
help support the great programming at
the After School Super School this year.
“CLUSTER is extremely appreciative
to both the Anbinder Foundation and
the Carvel Foundation, for recognizing
the importance of quality after school
programming and for continuing to
support CLUSTER so that we may
offer a variety of enriching after school
activities for the children who attend
our programs.” stated Toni Volchok,
Executive Director.
CLUSTER’s Westchester & Rockland
Mediation Center, received a $40,000
grant from The Tow Foundation to
support the Restorative Justice Program.
Jenny Besch, Director of the Mediation
Center stated, “The Tow Foundation
is a major force in the area of juvenile
justice. Their support has helped guide,
refine and expand our restorative justice
program. Their work and commitment
is helping to move towards improved
systemic changes in New York State”.

WHAT IS #GIVINGTUESDAY?
We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day
dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 2, 2014, individuals, families, businesses, students, and so
many others around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to
give to their favorite charity.
It’s a simple idea. Just find a way for you, your family, your community, your company or your organization to come together to
give something more. Then tell everyone you can about how you are giving. Join in and be a part of a global celebration of a new
tradition of generosity.
CLUSTER will be posting on Facebook and tweeting out all the great ways people are finding to give to
the agency. Whether it’s giving to the after school program, or our mental health residential program,
our summer camp or the housing crisis intervention program we will be welcoming your generosity and
letting everyone know how great you are.
Like our Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/clusterinc) and be on the lookout for ways that you can give
on #Giving Tuesday.
