31 2 Your Care: Adult Day Care/Care Management Adult Day Care Adult Day Care provides respite care or short-term breaks for informal caregivers, and allows adults in need of daily care an opportunity to spend time in a less restrictive environment other than skilled care. Adult Day Care is defined by Nevada Revised Statute “NRS 449.004,” as a “Facility for the care of adults during the day,” meaning an establishment operated and maintained to provide care, on a temporary or permanent basis, for aged or infirm persons. Adult Day Care can be offered in a social and health care setting. The social model offers nonmedical services that include supervision or assistance with activities of daily living (ADL’s), social activities, a meal or snacks, and socialization with peers. Adult Day Health Care provided in a health care facility can be based on a medical model offering rehabilitative and social services to adults with physical or mental impairments. The centers are ideal for physically, mentally or functionally impaired people who wish to maintain or improve their level of functioning to avoid skilled nursing home care.
