Norwalk, Connecticut © Crown Jupiter, FL. 2001 James Thomas Martino, Architect, P.C. designed this theatre complex to include 16 stadium seating auditoriums plus one large format theatre with a total seating capacity of 3,825. This beautiful 78,482 square foot theatre complex is constructed in the upscale community of Jupiter, Florida. A three-phase master plan has been developed for this area by De Guardiola Development Ventures and this new town has been named “Abacoa Town Centre“. The development also includes a new downtown commercial “main street“ complete with retail space, residential rentals and a new corporate hotel. © Crown Jupiter, FL. 2001 The theatre lobby is deliberately located at the intersection of these two main streets to merge smoothly with new residential and commercial construction occurring in Phase two. The facade of the theatre incorporates common Floridian materials including stucco and Spanish roof tiles. A portico protects the theatre going patrons from the summer sun. The award winning color palette of the interiors is synonymous with Florida, reflecting bold, bright colors and geometric shapes and form. This project was completed in 2001. © Crown Jupiter, FL. 2001 Design Award: 2001 Archi Color Design Award. AIA Long Island James Thomas Mar t ino, Archit ect, P. C. ANNAPOLIS CINEMAS Annapolis Cinemas 12 Theatre Complex Annapolis, Maryland Mall Owner: Westfield Corporation Inc. Los Angeles, CA Client: Crown Theatres L.P. Norwalk, Connecticut © Crown Annapolis, MD. 2000 © Crown Annapolis, MD. 2000 James Thomas Martino, Architect, P. C. designed this 12-screen cinema complex for Crown Theatres as part of an expansion to a regional shopping mall owned by Westfield Corporation. The facility features 2,587 seats and 47 wheelchair viewing positions, as well as social gathering spaces. A dramatic entrance to the theatre complex heightens the entertainment experience for the public. A glass enclosed theatre café overlooks the mall’s circular food court and allows shoppers to view the striking interior of the theatre lobby. The circular motif of the cinema’s exterior façade is also reflected inside, with sweeping curves and careful attention to lighting, colors and materials. The project was completed in 2000. HARTFORD CINEMAS Hartford Cinemas The Palace 17 Theatre Complex Hartford, Connecticut Client: Crown Theatres L.P. Norwalk, Connecticut © Crown Hartford, CT. 2000 © Crown Hartford, CT. 2000 © Crown Hartford, CT. 2000 James Thomas Martino, Architect, P. C. designed this 17-screen theatre complex as the centerpiece of an ongoing major revitalization project in Hartford, Connecticut. The project includes 3,611 seats, with 84 wheelchair positions, to accommodate the handicapped. City of Hartford officials requested a traditional theatre facade design for the site. To contrast with the conservative streetfront elevation, the theatre interiors consist of bright colors and bold, geometric forms and patterns. This geometric motif is carried through the public waiting spaces and concession area through use of floor tiles and color accents. The centerpiece for the lobby design is a raised dome with fiber optic stars projected above, to convey a mystical ambiance to the vast central space. Careful use of materials, lighting and accent colors further define each public zone and auditorium entrance. As a result of this theatre complex, completed in 2000, a number of retail shops and restaurants have opened in the area, further reflecting on the success of the project and urban design approach to downtown revitalization.
