NHS Donation
National Honor Society students spent the year gathering canned food items, stuffed animals and gift cards for
distribution to TLC Pantry, Willis Care Cottages and
Children’s Safe Harbor. The students loaded their cars
and traveled to donation sites to stock up the pantries
before summer. The items were collected all year solely
by NHS members. Pictured left to right are: Rachael

Plant Smiles, Grow Giggles, Harvest Love
Earlier this spring, Ashley Luly, second grade teacher at
Hardy Elementary, submitted a project on the popular
donation site, Donors Choose, and was shocked when just
two days later her project fully funded. Her
request? Two Miracle-Gro AeroGarden Bounty Indoor
Gardens with Gourmet Herb Seed Kits. With the
gardens, Ms. Luly’s class learned about basic plant needs
and life cycles, as well as taking care of the
environment and eating healthy.

Certified Veterinary Assistants
Four years ago, eleven determined students chose to enter the Vet Tech pathway at Willis High School. They
faced four years and five different agriculture classes, over 500 hours of instruction and 300 hours of shadowing a veterinarian. The students took the Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) test in May and just learned
that all eleven students passed the exam.

2016 Graduates
Both Mason Schiwart and Jessica Stalsby are graduating this
year-only one is leaving kindergarten and the other is leaving
high school. Jessica used to babysit Mason when he was just a
baby. The connection? Their parents are good friends. Jessica’s
mom, Tanya Stallsby, works at CC Hardy; and Mason’s mom,
Sabrina Schiwart, is a substitute in the district.
CONGRATULATIONS
