about candy cane lane About Candy Cane Lane Candy Cane Lane is more than the Children’s Museum of Acadiana’s newest exhibit. It is the Museum’s initiative to promote expansion and achieve long-term sustainability. Candy Cane Lane is also an invitation to Museum patrons, sponsors, supporters and donors to join in bringing this holiday exhibit to the children of Acadiana, while helping the Museum grow and insuring it continues to serve the children of Acadiana for generations to come. In late 2011, the Children’s Museum was given an extraordinary collection of Department 56 Holiday Villages by Anne and David Calhoun. This generous gift provides the Museum with the perfect opportunity to create what promises to become a favorite holiday tradition for Acadiana families. The indoor exhibit will provide observers with a heavenly view of the tiny shops and homes, streets and lanes, neighborhoods and villages of the miniature winter wonderland. From Main Street to the mountain chalets, children and adults alike will marvel as they peek inside the holidays of yesteryear. Candy Cane Lane Exhibit Opens during the Holiday season During museum hours Free with Museum admission of $5 per person Visitors of all ages are welcome Future of the CMA Candy Cane Lane Gala Friday, November 30th 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. Children’s Museum of Acadiana Just the adults Tickets are $75 in advance Candy Cane Lane Peppermint Tea Sunday, December 1st 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. Children’s Museum of Acadiana Children and Adults Tickets are $30 Reservations Required The Children’s Museum of Acadiana, a hands-on, participatory museum has served children and their families, schools and community organizations by providing interactive exhibits, special services, performances and workshops. The Children’s Museum is an independent organization funded by private donations and organizational grants. In 1993, the Museum purchased the old Heymann Food Center at 201 East Congress for $520,000. Civic clubs, restaurants, businesses, contractor, architects, plumbers, electricians, decorators, painters and construction personnel donated over $1.5 million in renovation services. With an initial cash investment of only $100,000, the Museum opened its doors in 1996. After 20 years of exemplary stewardship and sound fiscal management, the Museum is on track to retire the mortgage by 2014. Today, the Children’s Museum is poised to begin a new chapter, with exciting plans for program and facilities expansions. The second floor of the building has undeveloped space that could allow for expansion under the Children’s Museum roof. The proceeds from the Candy Cane Lane projects will go toward fulfilling the museum’s future vision of finishing out the 2nd floor. The possibilities are endless with the extra space, but plans include a permanent installation of the Candy Cane Lane exhibit and an oil and gas exhibit among many other opportunities for Learning by Doing!
