DO YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF WELL?

you, or else, having too much, you will vomit it.
Proverbs 25:16
I was once part of a one year pilot
project on health that was sponsored by our
ELCA church. For one year I met with a
group monthly and we learned about health
and supported one another on our wellness
journey. I thought that health meant physical health. I knew that I needed to exercise
more and to eat healthier. What I did not
realize is that health includes your emotional health, relational health, vocational
health, and your spiritual health.

Music Notes
Wellness Wednesday's
Please take note of these exciting musical
happenings at Dr. Martin Luther Church:
Whether your goal is weight loss or to live a more
healthy life, this program will provide you with the
tools you need and the accountability to help you
reach your goal. Many of you have tried to lose
weight and adopt a healthy lifestyle, but have you
ever joined a group that explores health & God?
We will base our meetings on the three principles
of wellness- physical, emotional, and spiritual.
Each session we will review principles needed to
set yourself up to succeed, weigh in (private), and
explore scripture. We encourage participants to
sign up in teams of four. If you are interested,
please sign up in the back of the church or call
the church office.

The music ministry is looking forward to
Sunday, August 24th at 10am – DMLC’s

feature favorite summertime hymns and
songs, combining traditional and contemporary worship styles.

“Grace Notes”, wrapped up their year with
the song “Bound for Glory”. Following a
summer break, the group will be kicking off
the 2014-2015 year with a pizza party in

Super Kids
Youth and Family
Super Kids raised over $400 for the Jacob Butschke
Scholarship Fund. 5 students in the community received scholarships on May 28 from the Butschke
Family to pursue their musical interests.
The time has finally arrived! Umbrella's mission trip will depart on Saturday, July 12th and
return Sunday, July 20th. But before we do
that, I would like to personally invite all of you
to attend our Send Off & Return Trip Dinners! On Friday, July 11th at 6pm, we will be
holding our Send Off Dinner, where you can
come enjoy a free meal as our thanks for your
generous donations, hear more information
about what we will be doing while down in Wetumpka, hear what the students are most excited for, and get an opportunity to pray over
them before they depart. Then on Sunday,
July 27th at 6pm you can join us again for our
Return Trip Dinner, where you can enjoy another free meal, an opportunity to watch the
video of the trip and see photos of what we
did, hear from the students what the most impactful moment of the trip was, and in general, see what your donations made possible! These dinners are for the congregation
and anyone who donated or prayed for our
trip, so please come! Besides that, once we
get back we will be preparing to host Badger
TEC at our church August 7-10. It'll be an exciting month for our ministry, filled with firsts
and memorable moments. Thank you for
helping us reach our $10,000 goal, you have
no idea how much your generosity will impact
the community of Wetumpka, the students
going on this trip, and the ministry as a
whole. Praise God!

Volunteer Opportunities at DMLC
COFFEE HOUR SIGN-UP
As you read in last month’s Portico we are changing up coffee hour a bit. Instead of your Volunteer Coordinator assigning your ministry to serve coffee hour on the monthly schedule you will now be given the opportunity to pick the date(s) that work best for you and the members of your team. Please review the dates and
pick one or two that you would like your family, group/ministry to be the “host”. Coffee hour always consists
of preparing coffee, providing treats, setting up (church provides paper products and beverages), serve and
clean up. It is an excellent opportunity for your group to showcase your activities and at the same time our
members are given a chance to catch up with each other over a cup of coffee. Sign-up will be on the table in
the Sanctuary or feel free to send an email to me with your chosen dates. Let’s make this work. We realize
how important it is to have coffee hour, and we cannot do this without your help. The following groups/
ministries have served in the past: Quilters, BAGS, Chancel, Council, Sarah Circle, Softball Teams, 5 Ushering Teams, Outreach, Darts, Younger Women’s Group, Phoebe Circle, Health & Wellness, Scrapbookers,
Tricia’s Troops, & Fishing & Faith.
WISHING WELL JULY- FOOD PANTRY
The Wishing Well Ministry for the month of July is our local Food Pantry. “It is amazing how much food we go
through” commented a pantry volunteer. “The donated items are much appreciated by our clients”. In July,
we will be having one of the volunteers visit with us during a Sunday morning service to share more about
the Food Pantry. When I asked for suggestions for donations I received many helpful ideas. Definitely nonperishable items are encouraged. Canned fruits, vegetables, tuna, chicken, pickles, olives, boxed potatoes,
hot or cold cereals, peanut butter, and don’t forget the jelly. During the summer months nothing is better
than sharing your healthy fresh produce from your garden or orchards. Spices and herbs are a hit. Those
can be very expensive and much needed. They also are in need of baby food, formula, diapers of all sizes,
laundry soap, hand soap, dish soap, shampoo, conditioners, body lotions, toothpaste, and toothbrushes.
They gladly accept the mini sizes of toiletries from hotels if you are looking to pass them on. Please feel free
to place your non-perishable donations in the Wishing Well. Fresh items can be delivered to the Food Pantry
location which is: W359 N5848 Brown Street, Suite B, Oconomowoc. Phone 262-567-7054.
ST. BEN’S STUFFING AND TURKEYS
Our supply of stuffing and turkeys are getting low. Stuffing can be purchased in individual bags or in bulk at
the Brownberry Outlet Store on Summit Avenue. Also frozen turkeys can be placed in either of our freezers
in Fellowship Hall. Usually 16-18# turkeys work best in our pans. “Thank you for consistently helping us
out. Thank you for the many ways in which you share with the hungry of Milwaukee. Keep up the good
work you do.” Sincerely, Brother Rob and Brother Dave
In closing, this reminds me of words quoted and spoken to me by a very special man in my life.
“DO ALL THE GOOD YOU CAN. BY ALL THE MEANS YOU CAN. IN ALL THE WAYS YOU CAN. IN ALL THE
PLACES YOU CAN. AT ALL THE TIMES YOU CAN. TO ALL THE PEOPLE YOU CAN. AS LONG AS YOU CAN.”
Bobbie Dierbeck, Volunteer Coordinator
