At the heart
of the city
A former industrial building with a wellestablished
place
among
Strasbourg’s
architectural heritage sites, the Seegmuller
Tower has been fully renovated to host these
new living quarters. Located in the booming
Presqu’île Malraux district, close to the central
campus, the tram, the media library, the
cinema, various cultural venues and shops, the
International University House is very much
an integral part of the city centre. The ideal
location to really get the most from Strasbourg’s
increasingly vibrant cultural scene.

A cultural melting pot Strasbourg (whose name originally meant “the city at the crossroads”) benefits
from its rich binational history and the multiple cultures which have influenced
it. As a European capital, it also has a symbolic status as the city of peace and
dialogue among cultures. Firmly rooted in this modern and outward looking
environment, the International University House is intended to be a crossroads
for intercultural contact and dialogue. A stay at the International University
House provides an opportunity to experience living with people from all around
the world. Every effort is made to encourage dialogue and sharing:
An open area
intended to host
themed exhibitions,
video projections
and conferences
A diverse programme
of cultural activities
(visits to the
European institutions
and guided tours of
the city, excursions)
Events are organised
around the world’s
traditional festivities
International
associations to swap
hints and tips and
to get involved in
student life

The Seegmuller Tower
Built in 1934 in a distinctive 1930s style, the Seegmuller
Tower housed the former grain silos. Disused since the
1990s, this emblematic building so dear to the memory
of Strasbourg’s inhabitants was fully renovated over a
period of two years (2014-2015) to become the new home
to university departments and apartments. To preserve
the building’s historical identity, all of the tower’s original
facades have been retained.

The International University House is the result of one of the 25 projects in Strasbourg
collectively referred to as «Operation Campus». Launched by the State, this programme
granted special financing to 12 French university sites to improve their infrastructure. The
€17 million needed for the building’s renovation was financed by the Société d’Aménagement
et d’Équipement de la Région de Strasbourg (Strasbourg regional amenities trust) – (€10
million), the Bas-Rhin General Council (€2.5 million), the Strasbourg Eurometropolis (€1.5
million), the Alsace Region (€1.5 million) and the University of Strasbourg (€1.5 million).
