The International University House opens in September 2015 Open to the public from September 2015, the International University House is designed to encouraging international contact, and offers an excellent setting that creates conditions for success of students, teachers and researchers from all over the world. The University of Strasbourg is extending its campus with this new facility, specially designed to meet the needs of university users and staff from all backgrounds. This outstanding site houses apartments and other facilities that make life a lot easier. It houses as well the coordination office of Eucor, the trinational alliance of 5 universities in France, Germany and Switzerland. Comfortable and modern accommodation Strasbourg’s International University House is equipped with 170 functional, comfortable and fully-furnished energy-efficient studio apartments! This housing facility is managed by Amitel, a local association, which is today a widely recognised key player in the youth housing market in Strasbourg and its surroundings. Amitel welcomes approximately 1,200 young people from close to 50 different nationalities each year! Photography: P. Bogner The Seegmuller Tower Built in 1934 in a distinctive 1930s style, the Seegmuller Tower housed the former grain silos. Disused since the 1990s, this emblematic building so dear to the memory of Strasbourg’s inhabitants was fully renovated over a period of two years (2014-2015) to become the new home to university departments and apartments. To preserve the building’s historical identity, all of the tower’s original facades have been retained. Photography: P. Launched by the State, this programme granted special financing to 12 French university sites to improve their infrastructure. The €17 million needed for the building’s renovation was financed by the Société d’Aménagement et d’Équipement de la Région de Strasbourg (Strasbourg regional amenities trust) – (€10 million), the Bas-Rhin General Council (€2.5 million), the Strasbourg Eurometropolis (€1.5 million), the Alsace Region (€1.5 million) and the University of Strasbourg (€1.5 million).
